KUCHING (Aug 1): The Serian district is set to emerge as a prominent tourism destination, with the Serian District Council (MDS) planning to develop six key natural attractions. In a statement, MDS chairman Dato Peter Minos announced that the Sarawak government, through the Greater Kuching Coordinated Development Agency (GKCDA), had allocated funding for these projects. Among the highlighted initiatives is the Bung Sadong Tourism Project, to be established at Bung Sadong mountain. Other planned developments include an intensive upgrade of the existing Ranchan Pool waterfall; improvements to the scenic Pesang River at Kampung Pesang; opening up access to the Silabur Cave at Kampung Lobang Batu; enhancements to the hot springs at Kampung Panchor Dayak; and development of the lake at Kampung Riih Daso into a fishing and recreational hub. 'Only in the Serian District can you find all these natural attractions in one place. 'Serian is truly blessed,' said Minos in a statement. According to him, the council is currently awaiting the necessary permits and approvals from various agencies to commence implementation, and expressed confidence that the projects would be completed within the next few years. Minos added that he had personally visited all six sites, and expressed confidence that they would attract both local and international tourists upon completion. On a related matter, he said a total seven flood relief centres (PPS) in Serian Division are being upgraded as a proactive measure in facing any possible future natural disasters especially during the Northeast Monsoon.
