An advert van erupted into flames on a street in Tameside on Tuesday evening (June 3). Fire crews taped off Old Street after the blaze broke out at around 8.45pm. Firefighters tackle blaze at industrial unit

Firefighters have been working through the night to tackle a blaze at a large industrial unit. The fire broke out on Adelaide Street, Bolton, just before 21:50 BST on Thursday, with eight fire engines attending along with the aerial unit, Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said. Billowing smoke could be seen across the town but crews have managed to contain the large fire. They are making "good progress" and are dampening down the area, GMFRS said. St Helen's Road has been closed in both directions Dan Perager, GMFRS Duty Group Manager, said: "Our crews worked hard to contain this incident to the building affected and to bring the fire under control. "Firefighters have worked throughout the night and we continue to make very good progress to fully extinguish the fire." Specialist appliances including the Aerial Unit and Scorpion and Turntable Ladder were called to the incident, he added. Crews return to Greater Manchester landmark after 'people spotted with barbecue' - days after major moor fire

Firefighters returned to a landmark Greater Manchester beauty spot after people were 'seen with a barbecue' days after a devastating moor fire. Smoke billowed from Holcombe Hill near to Peel Tower, in Bury, last Tuesday (May 13) after a fire broke out. Three teenagers were arrested on suspicion of arson and later bailed pending further enquiries. READ MORE: Family's double tragedy as second teenager killed five years after shooting READ MORE: Former Manchester United player, 19, died after quitting football in 'sudden' mood change The blaze left a large section of Holcombe Hill charred, while the area was already dry following the driest start to a year in the North West for almost a century. Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service has issued repeat warnings to the public in recent weeks, calling for care to be taken on the region's moors. But one week on from the Holcombe Hill fire, crews were called back to the site last night (May 20). Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service received a report of people having a barbecue in the area. Crews attended the scene at around 9pm, but fortunately were able to leave again 20 minutes later with no major incident taking place. Station manager Ady Taylor, the fire service's wildfire lead and national tactical adviser for wildfires, said last week: "We want people to enjoy the countryside and moorland we have in Greater Manchester, but our Be Moor Aware campaign, which runs throughout the summer, reminds people to always act responsibly while out enjoying these environments. "This means no barbecues, fires or fireworks - as they can easily result in wildfires. "Wildfires can spread quickly and cause devastation to the land and wildlife on it, so it's vitally important that people call 999 as soon as they think they see a fire." --- For the latest stories and breaking news visit Get the latest headlines, features and analysis that matter to you by signing up to our various Manchester Evening News newsletters here. Emergency services called to 3-car crash on road which is focus of police op

A road was shut this evening after a three crash crash, which caused on vehicle to flip on its side. Emergency services were called to Hulton Lane in Deane just before 7.30pm. The road was closed near to its junction with Eldercot Drive. The fire service, police and ambulance were all called to the scene. A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said: 'Shortly after 7.20pm on Saturday 10 May, two fire engines from Farnworth and Atherton fire stations were called to attend a road traffic collision involving three vehicles on Hulton Lane, Bolton. 'Crews arrived quickly and worked alongside Greater Manchester Police to make the area safe before departing after approximately half an hour at the scene.' The road was reopened just after 9pm after the vehicles were recovered from the scene. Although the cause of this crash is unknown, this road as well as Deane and Daubhill are the focus of a police operation to reduce road traffic collisions. (Image: Phil Taylor) Six speed cameras have been installed in several "hotspots" in Bolton including Hulton Lane. READ MORE: Bolton Council addressing speeding with speed cameras with a twist Deane Road motorists being warned they will not get away with speeding Cameras have been added to A579, to the A676, to Hulton Lane and to University Way some eight months ago in April 2024. According to the authorities, like a typical speed camera, these speed cameras report information including the registration of a vehicle and the speed of a vehicle if it is over the legal limit. However, unlike a typical speed camera, these speed cameras report the information to Greater Manchester Police (GMP) for the purposes of education not for the purposes of enforcement. (Image: Phil Taylor) Recently The Bolton News reported how police are targeting Bolton drivers who believe they can get away with speeding - with a specific focus on Deane Road. Officers believe that some drivers, despite facing appropriate punishments think that they will not be caught. Now those drivers can expect a letter through the post or a knock on the door to make them understand the potential serious, and in cases fatal, consequences of speeding. The move is part of a police operation to reduce casualties on Bolton's roads, particularly Deane Road, by targeting and reducing repeat speeders in the area. And Operation Classify has so far achieved a '75 per cent reduction' in speeding. Using information from speed cameras to identify specific information about speeding vehicles in the area, contact was made in person or by a bespoke letter to the registered keepers to warn them of the dangers of speeding.
