2025 Greater New Haven St. Patrick's Day Parade: What you need to know
NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) — The annual Greater New Haven St. Patrick's Day Parade is back this weekend! News 8 is a proud sponsor of the parade, which steps off Chapel Street and Sherman Avenue at 1:30 p.m. Sunday and is free to enjoy. The live broadcast on News 8 and will start at 2 p.m. The parade route is approximately 1.3 miles and lasts roughly three hours. Marching units begin on Chapel Street and Sherman Avenue and continue on Chapel Street to Church Street, then turn left onto Church Street, down to Elm Street and disburses by Orange Street. The family pre-parade celebration will occur from noon to 2 p.m. on Elm Street, between Temple Street and Church Street, in front of the New Haven Public Library. The area will feature free, family-friendly activities and entertainment for children of all ages, including a petting zoo, food trucks, and book giveaway. Family-friendly bathrooms, a changing table, tables and chairs, and a stroller-viewing zone at Church Street will be available. The parade route and the muster area (one block on either side of Chapel Street between Sherman Avenue and Norton Street and Chapel Street back to Ella T. Grasso Boulevard) will be closed to non-parade traffic before and during the parade. Most roads will close at 11 a.m. Sunday, and Church Street from Chapel to Grove streets will close around 6 a.m. Each street usually reopens right after the parade passes. Parade-goers can park at the Air Rights, Crown Street, Temple Street, Temple Medical, Granite Square, and Union Station garages, as well as in selected Yale University lots. News 8's Sarah Cody honored by St. Patrick's Day Parade committee
NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) — New 8's own Sarah Cody was honored Saturday night at The Greater New Haven St. Patrick's Day Parade Ball. Cody was named the recipient of the James J. Dinnan Distinguished Service Award. 'Frosty Shamrocks Plunge' raises money for Greater New Haven St. Patrick's Day Parade The Dinnan Award is 'given annually to an outstanding resident of the State of Connecticut who is recognized for his/her unselfish dedication and contributions to fellow Americans,' according to the Greater New Haven St. Patrick's Day Parade Committee. The Greater New Haven St. Patrick's Day Parade is the largest single-day spectator event in Connecticut, attracting more than 325,000 people to the the city. The parade is scheduled to begin at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, March 16. WTNH will be covering the event live from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. More information can be found on the parade's website.
