Green Bay Metro Fire Department alerting residents of scam involving fake inspectors
GREEN BAY, Wis. (WFRV) – Authorities in Green Bay are alerting the public to a scam involving individuals making unsolicited phone calls and pretending to be fire inspectors. According to the Green Bay Metro Fire Department, these scammers might request access to a home or building while asking for payments for inspections. Kiel residents advised to lock cars after reported break-in attempts Fire officials say the Green Bay Metro Fire Department does conduct fire inspections, but will never ask for payments over the phone or during unexpected visits. They add that representatives of the fire department will also always be in uniform and arrive with a GBMFD-marked vehicle. Anyone who has someone come to their home or business and is requesting payments for fire inspections, asking for access to the home or building, and/or is portraying themselves as a fire department representative is asked to contact the Green Bay Police Department. GBPD: Second driver faces charges in Velp Avenue head-on crash, identify two from Green Bay
GREEN BAY, Wis. (WFRV) – The Green Bay Police Department (GBPD) provided an update on the early April head-on crash on Velp Avenue, including information that a second driver was charged and the identities of both men. According to a release from GBPD, a second driver allegedly involved in the two-vehicle head-on crash that happened on April 1 on Velp Avenue now faces charges. Wisconsin man suffers serious, life-threatening injuries following crash, arrested for OWI Officers say that witnesses claimed that a black GMC Sierra 1500 pickup truck was racing a red Dodge Challenger before crashing into a van at the intersection of Wilson Avenue. On May 22, charges were filed against 35-year-old Timothy Mossberger of Green Bay, who was identified to be driving the GMC Sierra 1500. On April 3, the Brown County District Attorney's Office charged the driver of the Challenger, 22-year-old Jason Wright, also of Green Bay. Victims identified in fatal I-43 wrong-way crash; charges expected Three people were treated for serious injuries as a result of the crash. Charges include: Timothy Mossberger Second-Degree Recklessly Endangering Safety – Two Counts Jason Wright Second-Degree Reckless Injury – Two Counts Operating Motor Vehicle While Suspended – Cause Great Bodily Harm – Two Counts No additional information was provided. Green Bay man dies following motorized bicycle crash on Cherry Street
GREEN BAY, Wis. (WFRV) – Authorities have confirmed that a 53-year-old man who suffered life-threatening injuries in a motorized bicycle crash on May 17 has died. The crash happened just before 8 a.m. in the 1300 block of Cherry Street on Green Bay's east side and involved another motorized bicyclist. The man died from his injuries on Sunday, May 18. His identity has not been released. Memorial Day gas prices drop across Wisconsin, easing travel costs The other bicyclist involved sustained non-life-threatening injuries, and authorities say no criminal charges are expected at this time. Green Bay PD marks National Police Week with fallen officers memorial
GREEN BAY, Wis. (WFRV) – The Green Bay Police Department (GBPD) held a special ceremony to honor Wisconsin law enforcement officers who have died in the line of duty. The event, part of National Police Week, May 11th through 17th, was held in front of the Law Enforcement Memorial at the Green Bay Police Department. The ceremony began at 1:00 p.m. and featured a presentation of colors by the GBPD Honor Guard. Green Bay agency hosts monthly diaper giveaway and resource fair for local families Several speakers took part in the somber event, including Father Richard Getchel, the department's Chaplain; Green Bay Mayor Eric Genrich; Police and Fire Commission President Rod Goldhahn; and GBPD Chief Chris Davis. The ceremony paid tribute to the fallen officers ahead of National Peace Officer's Memorial Day, which takes place on Thursday, May 15, 2025. National Police Week is a time to honor and remember law enforcement officers across the country who have made the ultimate sacrifice in service to their communities. Green Bay fire and police teams work together to rescue baby raccoons
GREEN BAY, Wis. (WFRV) – Five tiny, motherless baby raccoons caused quite the stir when they decided to explore the treetops with no grown-ups in sight. Thankfully, help was just a call away. According to a Facebook post from the Green Bay Metro Fire Department, they teamed up with the Green Bay Police Department for a very special rescue mission. The goal was to bring the adventurous little critters safely down from their hideaway.
