Vote theft claim: It's Congress vs BJP protests in Bengaluru on August 5
Bengaluru: BJP in Karnataka will stage a counter-protest on Aug 5 against what it calls the Congress' "anti-constitutional" accusations against the Election Commission, the opposition party's state president BY Vijayendra announced Saturday. The protest will take place at the Gandhi statue near Vidhana Soudha, coinciding with Congress MP Rahul Gandhi's scheduled rally at Freedom Park over alleged "vote theft" in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. "All our MPs, MLAs, MLCs, former MPs and legislators will join this protest. We aim to expose Congress' misleading stand before the people," Vijayendra said. "They must apologise to the people of Karnataka," he added. BJP's request to protest at Freedom Park was denied by police due to law and order concerns, as Congress had already secured permission. Vijayendra criticised Rahul for alleging misuse of the Election Commission and calling the last year's polls rigged. "They have lost faith in democracy. They are blaming EC, but how did they win in Karnataka, Himachal Pradesh, and Telangana?" he said. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Last days to apply - USA Green Card Lottery americ24 Undo "Rahul Gandhi is a misguided leader with no direction," Vijayendra alleged. "If they have an atom bomb of evidence, they can't keep it in their pockets. Let them submit it to the EC or challenge it in the Supreme Court." He also targeted chief minister Siddaramaiah and his deputy DK Shivakumar: "If they don't trust their own officers who conducted elections, do they have any control over their own administration?" Responding to Rahul's claim of "100% proof" of poll fraud, he challenged Congress to go to court. "Rather than creating drama in Bengaluru, they should approach the judiciary," he added. "Rahul Gandhi's actions are dangerous and anti-democratic. He is unable to accept Modi's leadership," Vijayendra said. "This is a deceptive drama born out of frustration and defeat." Governor's comment on language hatred harming Maha is correct, says CM Fadnavis
Kolhapur: Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis on Wednesday agreed with Governor C P Radhakrishnan's statement about the language conflict likely being a deterrent for investors in Maharashtra. Speaking in Pandharpur on Wednesday, Fadnavis said: "Whatever the Governor has said is correct. Also, it is wrong to drag him into any political debate." On Tuesday, at a book launch event, the Governor addressed the language row, questioning whether he would miraculously learn to speak in Marathi if someone assaulted him. Recently, videos have emerged depicting the alleged assaults of non-Marathi speakers by Maharashtra Navnirman Sena and Shiv Sena (UBT) workers for not using the local language. Reacting to the videos, Radhakrishnan said: "If we spread this kind of hatred, then which investor will come here? No investor will come, no industry will come. In the long run, this will harm Maharashtra." Recounting his own experience, the Governor had said that when he was an MP in Tamil Nadu, he saw a group beating up another because they were not speaking in Tamil. "I am unable to understand Hindi, and it is an obstacle for me. We must learn maximum languages, and we must also be proud of our mother tongue," he said. Reacting to the Governor's comments, Shiv Sena (UBT) MLA Aaditya Thackeray said there no linguistic hatred in the state and there was no need to make political comments. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Last days to apply - USA Green Card Lottery americ24 Undo Fadnavis was in Pandharpur on Wednesday to attend the 675th Sanjeevan Samadhi event of Sant Namdeo and other saints. He declined to make any political statement while on the premises of Pandharpur's Vitthal-Rukhmini temple. The Pandharpur Bachao Kruti Samiti, a forum of residents and traders in the temple town, placed posters around the temple urging the CM not to proceed with the temple corridor development plan costing Rs 2,000 crore. The plan necessitates the eviction of residents and traders from 600 establishments adjacent to the temple. Fadnavis said, "We don't intend to do 'Vikas by Vinash (progress by destruction)'. Crores of people visiting the temple town face inconvenience and, therefore, we are preparing the corridor development plan. I will speak to the people who will be affected, and I can guarantee they will get good compensation in return for their support to develop the temple premises." Fadnavis also unveiled virtual reality goggles to be provided to devotees, allowing them to view the live darshan of Lord Vitthal and Rukhmini. Devotees will experience the feeling of standing inside the sanctum sanctorum of the temple during the puja of Lord Vitthal. Similar virtual reality darshan initiatives have been launched in Kashi and Ujjain too, officials said. BOX Pawar, Thackeray ideological opponents, not enemies: Fadnavis Sharad Pawar and Uddhav Thackeray recently praised Fadnavis in their write-up published in a book on the chief minister. When asked whether the praises indicated a potential political alignment, Fadnavis said, "In Maharashtra, we are ideological opponents, not enemies. If someone expresses good feelings about someone on his birthday, then there is no need to draw any other conclusion. If we draw wrong conclusions from this, then people may think we support the wrong culture. On my birthday, some people brought out a book and sought reactions from Sharad Pawar and Uddhav Thackeray, which they gave. Both are tall political leaders. Drawing political conclusions out of their good wishes would be very narrow-minded." (With PTI inputs)

Shakespeare's 'creative spellings' gave us these 10 words we still can't live without
William Shakespeare, born in 16th-century Stratford-upon-Avon, England, didn't simply use language as a tool to tell tales, he wielded it like a master craftsman, shaping it to fit his vision. In fact, his name appears in various spellings across historical records, each reflecting the fluidity of language during that time. The English language in the 16th century wasn't standardised like it is today. People often wrote as they spoke, and spelling was a matter of personal choice. For an ordinary student struggling to get their English spelling right, it was a remarkable time to be alive. Or, if you were a wordsmith like Shakespeare, it offered endless possibilities to bend and meld words into unique contexts and usages. Shakespeare was no ordinary writer, his plays have shaped English literature, and so have his words. Even centuries after his death, they remain indispensable to the English language. Imagine what it would be like today if students were free to play with language in the way Shakespeare did. In modern classrooms, a paper full of such "creative spelling" would likely be defaced with red ink. Yet, what might be deemed 'creative spellings' or even 'mistakes' in a modern classroom, are precisely what have left a lasting legacy, one that both students and linguists continue to rever. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 2025 Green Card Lottery Registration Now Open americ24 Undo 1. Eyeball (Henry VI, Part 1) Believe it or not, the word "eyeball" was Shakespeare's invention. Before his time, people simply used "eye," but he introduced "eyeball" to specifically describe the spherical structure of the eye. Was this intentional word-smithing or merely a quirky choice in the heat of dramatic expression? Perhaps both, but the result was a word we simply cannot imagine living without today. 2. Bedroom (A Midsummer Night's Dream) Imagine a world without the word "bedroom." Shakespeare combined the straightforward words "bed" and "room" in A Midsummer Night's Dream to give us the term we now use to describe our most personal space. Whether this was a grammatical "mistake" or an act of linguistic invention, this creative leap has certainly stood the test of time. 3. Swagger (Henry V, A Midsummer Night's Dream) Shakespeare didn't just write about kings and battles, he gave us an attitude. In Henry V, he coined "swagger", a word originally describing an arrogant strut. Today, it's evolved into a term for effortless confidence. Was it a playful jab at bravado or a stroke of linguistic genius? Either way, Shakespeare's "swagger" has strutted its way into modern slang. 4. Dwindle (Henry IV, Part 1, Macbeth) Why use a plain word when Shakespeare could shrink it into something new? In Macbeth, he conjured "dwindle", a poetic verb for slowly fading away. Did he mishear an older term, or was this a sly contraction? Whatever the case, this haunting word has dwindled its way into everyday speech. 5. Jaded (Henry VI, Part 2) "Jaded", that feeling of being thoroughly worn out or exhausted, first appeared in Shakespeare's Henry VI, Part 2 . In this instance, Shakespeare didn't "misspell" anything; he introduced a fresh way of describing fatigue. By blending words and meaning, Shakespeare created a term that perfectly captured the weary, worn-out feeling we still experience today. 6. Green-Eyed (The Merchant of Venice, Othello) Shakespeare loved vivid imagery, and few phrases stick like "green-eyed monster" (jealousy) from Othello. While "green-eyed" itself wasn't entirely new, his dramatic personification turned it into a timeless expression. A playful twist on color and emotion? Absolutely. A "mistake"? Hardly, just another example of Shakespeare painting with words. 7. Bedazzled (The Taming of the Shrew) Shakespeare possessed an incredible ability to conjure vivid, eye-catching imagery with his words. In The Taming of the Shrew , he coined "bedazzled', a word meaning to impress someone with overwhelming beauty or brilliance. What may have seemed like a playful misstep in his writing led to a dazzling, enduring term. 8. Sanctimonious (The Tempest) Who doesn't know a sanctimonious person, someone who presents themselves as morally superior, often in a rather hypocritical way? Shakespeare gave us this word in The Tempest . Was it a "spelling mistake," or was it an inspired bit of wordplay that added layers of irony to his characterisations? In any case, the term became essential for describing pretentious piety, and it's now commonplace in our vocabulary. 9. Grovel (Henry VI, Part II) To "grovel" means to lower oneself in humility or submission. Shakespeare employed this term in Henry VI, Part II , and it quickly caught on as a way to describe extreme humility. Whether it was a slip of the pen or deliberate wordplay, "grovel" remains in the language as a perfect descriptor of humbling oneself to an exaggerated degree. 10. Gloomy (Titus Andronicus) When Shakespeare used 'gloomy' in Titus Andronicus, he coined a term that would encapsulate dark moods and weather for centuries to come. His play was filled with tragedy and dark themes, and 'gloomy' perfectly captured that atmosphere. This evocative coinage gave us an indispensable way to describe emotional despair and dreariness. A legacy, an idol, a sea of language awaiting words to come alive If Shakespeare's legacy outshines that of many of his contemporaries, it is well deserved. The way he seized the opportunity to blend artistry with language gave him the freedom to invent words that the existing vocabulary simply couldn't hold. Shakespeare didn't just command language as if it were his own; he reshaped it forever, leaving behind a linguistic legacy for generations to come. So, next time you're at a loss for words, why not channel the lost spirit of Shakespeare? Embrace your creativity, let language be what it was always meant to be: a tool for creation, communication, persuasion, and making an impact that, like Shakespeare's, endures. Vikrant Massey saw his mother standing in line at hospital to submit his father's mediclaim papers. What the 12th Fail actor did next stunned everyone
Vikrant Massey , who began his journey in the entertainment industry as a teenager on television, has carved a distinct path with his thoughtful film choices. Over the years, he has transitioned into one of Bollywood's most respected performers, known for his emotional depth and authenticity. His recent role in 12th Fail only further cemented his status as an actor who values storytelling over stardom. Taking Charge of Family Responsibilities In a recent heart-to-heart conversation with Rhea Chakraborty on her YouTube talk show, Vikrant opened up about the weight of responsibility that comes with earning. He shared how, at one point in his life, he decided to stop relying on banks and insurance companies for support. Feeling capable enough to shoulder everything on his own, he asked his parents to avoid claiming any medical or financial aid, as he believed he could manage all expenses for the family without external help. A Heartfelt Moment at the Hospital Vikrant recounted a deeply emotional incident that reinforced this decision. His father had been hospitalized due to a heart condition while Vikrant was out of town. His wife, Sheetal Thakur, who was not yet married to him at the time, stepped in and accompanied his father to Hinduja Hospital . When Vikrant arrived at the hospital, he was moved to see his mother quietly waiting in a queue with a folder tucked under her arm, preparing to initiate the insurance claim process. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like La Lotería de la Green Card está cada vez mas cerca: No se pierda este año la aplicación Green Card Lottery Experts Solicita ahora Undo Disturbed by the sight of her standing in line for financial aid, he immediately approached her, took the documents, and tore them up on the spot. He urged her never to do that again, expressing his commitment to taking full financial responsibility for the family. 'I took that paper, and I tore it and I said, 'Don't ever do that. Let's go'. I mean, that's also a privilege,' he stated. For Vikrant, that moment symbolized not just monetary stability but the emotional strength and pride of being able to support his loved ones unconditionally. Learning the Cost of Superficial Impressions Vikrant also spoke about the challenges he faced early in his career, especially the pressure to present a polished image. As a newcomer, he believed it was necessary to impress producers and directors at social gatherings. This led him to spend extravagant amounts — sometimes as much as Rs 60,000—on renting branded clothing just for a night. However, this phase was short-lived. His wife, Sheetal, who was managing the household budget at the time, wasn't pleased with the spending. Vikrant eventually realized that dressing up in costly designer wear made him feel uneasy and inauthentic. Constantly worried about damaging the rented outfits, he admitted that the experience felt forced. He chose instead to return to his true self, understanding that genuine talent speaks louder than appearances. Stepping Into Romance With Newfound Confidence Now, Vikrant is preparing to enter new territory with Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan , his first full-fledged romantic drama . Directed by Santosh Singh and backed by Mini Films, the movie marks an exciting new chapter in his career. Interestingly, Vikrant admitted that he was once hesitant to take on romantic roles. When he first started acting, his taste leaned toward unconventional cinema, and no romantic scripts felt convincing or inspiring. However, as his career evolved, he became more open to exploring different genres. With Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan slated for a July 11 theatrical release, audiences will see a fresh side of Vikrant on screen. The film also introduces Shanaya Kapoor, Sonam Kapoor's cousin, in her debut role, adding to the anticipation around this new-age love story.
