Here are the finalists for the Pride of Cumbria 2025 Education Hero or Team

The Pride of Cumbria 2025 Awards are set to recognise an Education Hero or Team of the Year who work in the education sector. They will be honoured at the event to be held on Wednesday, June 18 at the Greenhill Hotel, Wigton They will have provided outstanding support for their pupils, demonstrated real creativity to deliver learning experiences and inspired youngsters and colleagues with their resilience and Hemingway Lisa Hemingway (Image: Supplied) Lisa Hemingway is the Headteacher at St Bridget's CofE Primary School in Brigham, working tirelessly for the school and the children, she goes above and beyond. Her nominator said: "If there is a fancy dress event, Lisa is always in full costume and she congratulates the children on their costumes. The children in the school love Lisa and they are kind to each other, they look after each other and they are a joy to be around. Lisa puts the children at the centre of everything. "Lisa sees the children for who they are and she has a holistic approach to their development. We are so very lucky to have her as our headteacher." Ellie Huggon and Robyn Hodgson Ellie Huggon and Robyn Hodgson (Image: Supplied) Ellie Huggon and Robyn Hodgson teach at James Rennie School in Carlisle, working tirelessly for the well being of disabled children. Their nominator said: "Ellie and Robyn are just superstars , the past few years have been difficult, being a single parent of two I couldn't of got through it without them. "We all know James Rennie School is fantastic and all staff are great but these two just go that extra mile. They are not just TAs and PAs from school, they are friends now." Amy Harvey Amy Harvey (Image: Supplied) Amy Harvey is a teacher and headteacher at High Hesket Primary School 'inspiring and leading in her field'. Her nominator said: "Mrs Harvey is an amazing headteacher who goes above and beyond for her pupils and staff. "The wellbeing of both her pupils and staff is always at the forefront of her work. Her own teaching skills are exceptional. "I've watched her grow from a class teacher to an inspiring Headteacher."

Finalists revealed for the Young Person of the Year at Pride of Cumbria Awards 2025

The Pride of Cumbria 2025 Young Person of the Year award was created to recognise the 'many young people under the age of 16 who make an excellent contribution to their communities' as well as recognising the importance of young people in the region. The event will be held on Wednesday, June 18 at the Greenhill Hotel, Wigton. The finalists are: Lilly Mae Grimes Lilly Mae Grimes (Image: Supplied) The 11 year old from Barrow in Furness has had a tough few years losing two grandads and her biological father all within 12 months, before finding out that her stepdad had been diagnosed with terminal cancer. Lilly started counselling with cancer care and decided that she wanted to give back and so started making beaded pens and selling them with the proceeds being split between Cancer Care and Christie's Hospital in Manchester. So far she has raised over £1,000. Her nominator said: "Lilly Mae has just received a large order for 200 keyrings so will make her total raised to over £1,500. She has a heart of gold and will do anything for anyone. She juggles all of this around school and helping care for her step father who is on palliative end of life care." Bailey White Bailey White (Image: Supplied) The six year old from Dearham was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes in June 2025 at five years old. Since his diagnosis he has shared his story with friends in class, his teachers, family and even strangers. Bailey has worked really hard to fundraise money to buy books for newly diagnosed children and helped with his schools diabetes day where he made a 'hypo' kit for every child and a leaflet to spread awareness within the community. His nominator said: "I feel for a six year old to have achieved such amazing things and to help families with young children going through a life long auto-immune disease is just outstanding." Izzy and Summer Tinkler, Mia Hughes and Layla Harris Izzy, Summer, Mia and Layla (Image: Supplied) The group of youngsters from Maryport, worked tirelessly during their February half term holidays to make and sell items on their charity stall, aiming to raise money for two charities in memory of Sadie Reed from the town who died at the age of 14. Their nominator said: "I feel the girls should be awarded for their act of kindness, persistence and compassion to help those who are in terrible suffering."

Pride of Cumbria Against all Odds award finalists share inspiring stories of courage

The new Against All Odds category in Newsquest's Pride of Cumbria Awards 2025 honours individuals or groups who have overcome personal challenges with resilience, determination, and courage. Their journey through illness, loss, or adversity inspires others, showcasing the strength of hope and perseverance. The event will be held on Wednesday, June 18 at the Greenhill Hotel, Wigton, and will be hosted for the first time by StagedRight managing director David Stewart Kerry Stewart (Image: Supplied) Kerry was diagnosed with breast cancer in Feb 2021, aged 30. She is a mother of Mabel and a wife to Jonathon. Fit, healthy, full of life and one day found a lump in her breast. She was diagnosed and put onto a treatment plan instantly. She braved the shave in July 2021 and started raising money, alongside Stronger Together cancer support group, to raise funds for The Henderson and Loweswater Suite at West Cumberland Hospital. Laura Earl - The Hiking Household Laura Earl (Image: Supplied) Laura was diagnosed with a brain tumour in September 2023, she was fit and active - owning walking business The Hiking Household. She has four young kids and has dedicated her life to me, the children and her business. Her nominator said: "She deserves this award as her whole life was dedicated to walking and being outside and this last year has been incredibly difficult for her. "She has overcome all the odds and used her experience for good, making routes more accessible for others now she's disabled herself." Sarah Foster Sarah Foster (Image: Supplied) Sarah was first diagnosed with cancer around the age of 12. She has had multiple remissions but the cancer always returned. She has the most valiant spirit and determination to fight and she's fought hard. She has raised a staggering amount for charity including CLIC Sargent and cancer research. Her nominator said: "For outstanding bravery and contribution to charity whilst being disabled and having terminal cancer herself." Julieanne Mitchell Julieanne Mitchell (Image: Supplied) Julieanne is HIV positive and is 47 and lives in Whitehaven, she works for Blue Sky Trust one day a week and also does additional volunteering for this service. Her nominator said: "Julieanne herself was diagnosed with HIV over 20+ years ago, at a time when she was a young women, since then, she has worked so hard to build herself back up after such a diagnoses, but then she has also gone on and support others living with HIV across Cumbria"
