Ystrad Mynach gym collaborate police for get fit teen summer
The free Hyrox Race for Success programme, which is being run at the Evolution Fitness gym in Ystrad Mynach, aims to engage young people in health and fitness during the summer holidays. The scheme is open to teenagers aged 14 to 17 and will take place three times a week through the summer break on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 11am to 1pm. (Image: Evolution Fitness) Teenagers who participate in the initiative will receive free access to the gym, in addition to structured coaching and fitness plans from personal trainers who are qualified to deliver Hyrox training – a global fitness phenomenon which has boomed worldwide since launching in 2017. Those who complete the six-week programme will also be offered a free membership to the gym for a further six weeks to recognise their commitment. The gym is collaborating on the initiative with Gwent Police, who have provided funding for the scheme as part of their wider Respect Rhymney Programme, which was launched last year to tackle high rates of crime in the area. From day one, we've always tried to integrate with the community, so it ties in with our ethics. We want to keep kids engaged in the holidays, and to keep them distracted from things they shouldn't be doing. We hope that if we can keep the young people engaged in fitness for twelve weeks at no cost, and if the kids and their parents can see a benefit, then we can hopefully keep them engaged long-term too.' He said: 'We're pleased to bring this initiative to teens in the area, giving them the chance to learn a bit more about the world of Hyrox racing and, in particular, making healthier decisions with nutrition and exercise.' White Sox call up Tim Elko from Triple-A, claim Yoendrys Gómez off waivers from Dodgers
CHICAGO (AP) — The Chicago White Sox selected the contract of infielder Tim Elko from Triple-A Charlotte and placed him in the lineup at first base for his major league debut against the Miami Marlins on Saturday night. The 26-year-old Elko was slotted to bat eighth. He hit .348 with 10 homers and 23 RBIs in 31 games with Charlotte. Elko was selected by Chicago in the 10th round of the 2022 amateur draft after he helped lead Ole Miss to the NCAA title. In a corresponding move, the White Sox designated infielder Nick Maton for assignment. Chicago also claimed right-handed pitcher Yoendrys Gómez off waivers from the Los Angeles Dodgers on Saturday and released outfielder Greg Jones. Gómez is a combined 1-1 with a 6.28 ERA with one save and 11 strikeouts over nine relief appearances between the Yankees and Dodgers this season. He was designated for assignment by Los Angeles on May 6 after being claimed off waivers from New York. White Sox claim RHP Yoendrys Gomez from Dodgers
May 10 - The Chicago White Sox claimed right-hander Yoendrys Gomez off waivers from the Los Angeles Dodgers on Saturday and released outfielder Greg Jones. Gomez, 25, is joining his third organization this season after the Dodgers claimed him off waivers from the New York Yankees last month. He is a combined 1-1 with a 6.28 ERA and a three-out save in nine relief appearances this season. In 15 major league appearances over parts of three seasons, Gomez is 1-1 with a 4.88 ERA. Jones, 27, was 0-for-3 in three games for the White Sox this season. He is 1-for-8 in nine career games after a short stint with the Colorado Rockies last season. In another move, the White Sox selected the contract of first baseman Tim Elko from Triple-A Charlotte, while infielder Nick Maton was designated for assignment. Elko, 26, is poised to make his major league debut after batting .348 with 10 home runs and 23 RBIs in 31 games at Charlotte. He was in the starting lineup and batting eighth for Saturday's home game against the Miami Marlins. Maton, 28, was batting .167 with two home runs and four RBIs in 25 games with the White Sox. Lincoln Ball added 13 points while shooting 5 of 8 from the field and 2 for 4 from the line while he also had six rebounds. Matt Mayock went 4 of 5 from the field to finish with 10 points. Alex Chaikin led the way for the Leopards (13-20) with 29 points and six rebounds. Justin Vander Baan added 14 points, six rebounds, five assists and five blocks for Lafayette. Andrew Phillips finished with 12 points and six rebounds. Jones scored seven points in the first half and American went into the break trailing 34-23. American went on a 14-0 second-half run to give them the lead at 56-51 with 9:11 remaining in the half.
