City of Erie opens applications for new firefighters
The City of Erie Fire Department is now accepting applications for new firefighters.
The application period is open from April 11 until April 27 with a testing date for those applicants slated for June 21.

The assistant chief said it's an opportunity for people who want to serve the community to do so.
He says it's the first time in two years that they've looked to hire, adding it will likely be another two years before they do so again.

'We have a long and rich history here. The opportunity as a firefighter to give back to the community is frequent and often. Being able to work with people on some of their worst days and being able to provide them support is a very positive experience,' said Gregory Purchase, assistant chief of the Erie Fire Department.
