Elon Musk-owned AI company xAI has signed a multi-million dollar deal with the Pentagon to offer AI chatbot - Grok to United States Government customers. Announcing Grok for Government, the company said 'Today, we're proud to announce Grok For Government – a suite of frontier AI products available to United States Government customers.' The announcement comes days after Grok stirred controversy by praising Adolf Hitler and generating antisemitic responses. In the press release, xAI wrote 'xAI's mission is to create and propagate AI tools to assist humanity in our quest for understanding and knowledge. What is Grok for Government Explaining what Grok for Government is, the AI firm said that under this umbrella, it will bring world-class AI tools to federal, local, state, and national security customers. The partnership will include access to Grok 4 - the company's latest and most advanced model so far. Elon Musk's xAI announced Monday it secured a $200 million ceiling contract with the U.S. Department of Defense. The big picture: The move is a part of the Pentagon's adoption of advanced artificial intelligence capabilities to address national security challenges. As part of that goal, the Chief Digital and Artificial Intelligence Office, which sets AI standards for the Defense Department, also announced awards Monday to Anthropic, Google and OpenAI. Driving the news: xAI said Monday that it secured the new contract with the Defense Department alongside its products being available to purchase. "This allows every federal government department, agency, or office, to access xAI's frontier AI products," the company said. Defense Department to begin using Grok, Musk's controversial AI Model
The U.S. Department of Defense will begin using Grok, the AI chatbot built by Elon Musk's start-up xAI, the company announced in a post on Monday. The announcement came as Grok unveiled what it called 'Grok for Government,' a suite that allows agencies and federal offices to adopt its chatbots for their specific uses. President Donald Trump has encouraged more rapid adoption of artificial intelligence tools since taking office in January. Elon Musk was a member of the Trump administration, overseeing the U.S. DOGE Service, until he departed in late May. He has since become a critic of Trump's signature tax and spending legislation. On Monday, xAI said its products would now be 'available to purchase via the General Services Administration (GSA) schedule,' allowing 'every federal government department, agency, or office' to buy them. Grok came under fire last week after launching into an antisemitic rant and invoking Adolf Hitler after it was a programmed to be less politically correct.
