St Finbarr's secure final berth, Clon and Nemo in contention
St Finbarr's qualified for the final of Division 1 of the McCarthy Insurance Group Cork Football League without kicking a ball after they received a walkover from Newcestown in the final round. They must wait another week, however, to find out who will join them. Nemo Rangers are in second place at the moment after they beat St Michael's by 0-16 to 2-7 on Thursday night. Should Clonakilty avoid defeat against Castlehaven next Sunday, they will play the Barrs in the final. Conor Horgan led the way for Nemo with 0-8 while eight other players kicked 0-1 each, captain Steven Cronin and Kieran Histon amongst them. Liam O'Sullivan shot 1-1 for Michael's while Eric Hegarty slotted home a penalty but they needed a win to have any chance of avoiding relegation. The competition for who would go down with Michael's was complicated by Douglas giving a walkover to Carrigaline. This brought them level on points with Éire Óg with Carrig enjoying the head-to-head edge over the Ovens men. Thus, Éire Óg needed a positive result against Cill na Martra on Sunday morning to stay up. And they got it, as the sides played put a 0-14 to 1-11 draw, relegating Carrigaline in the process. The Ovens side led going into injury time, only for Damien Ó hUrdail to kick a late point to go with his earlier goal to earn the Gaeltacht men a share of the spoils. Brian Hurley kicked 0-3 for Éire Óg, Chris Kelly scored 0-2, while Darragh Clifford also kicked a point. In Division 2, already promoted Carbery Rangers and Knocknagree played out a dress rehearsal for the final with a late John Hodnett point earning the West Cork men a 0-16 to 1-12 win. Hodnett kicked 0-3 overall, Daragh Hayes did the same while John O'Rourke clipped 0-2. Anthony O'Connor kicked 0-8 for Knocknagree, with Denis O'Connor contributing 1-3. Elsewhere, two goals from Diarmuid MacTomáis and a third from Seán Ó Luasa helped Béal Átha 'n Ghaorthaidh to a 3-11 to 0-9 win over Castletownbere. Ciarán McCarthy inspired Valley Rovers to a 0-9 to 1-5 win over Dohenys while already relegated Kanturk beat Ballincollig by 1-12 to 1-5. Finally, 1-5 from Kevin Davis helped O'Donovan Rossa to a 1-11 to 1-10 win over the other relegated side, Fermoy. In Division 3, Uibh Laoire needed to beat Rockchapel in their final game to qualify for the final against already-promoted Clyda Rovers. In the end, they got it with three late points from Ian Jones, Kevin Manning and Cathal Vaughan helping them to a 0-15 to 0-13 win. Aghada and Kiskeam were relegated from Division 3 and they will be replaced by Aghabullogue and Bandon. Two goals from Luke Casey and a third from Aaron O'Sullivan secured Agahabullogue's berth in the Division 4 final as they defeated already relegated St Vincent's by 3-16 to 0-13. Goals from Mark Sugrue, Peter Calnan and Ben Donegan helped Bandon to a 3-10 to 0-8 win over Glanmire. Vincent's were followed through the trapdoor by Bantry Blues. In Division 5, Gabriel Rangers defeated Kilmurry by 1-17 to 1-6 thus ensuring the sides would meet again in the final while Glenville and Glanworth were demoted. St Nicks secured their promotion from Division 6 by hitting a magnificent seven goals against Aghinagh on Friday. Danny Morris kicked 1-3 for Nicks, with Gavin Marshall bagging a brace of goals as they finished in second place behind Canovee. City sides St Michael's and Mayfield were relegated from Division 6, while West Cork sides Argideen Rangers and Kilmacabea were promoted from Division 7.

Cork football league round-up: Clinical Clon rout Barrs
Clonakilty took a big step towards securing their place in the final of Division 1 of the McCarthy Insurance Group Cork Football League after they enjoyed a comprehensive win over St Finbarr's in Clonakilty on Sunday. This was a much-anticipated clash as both sides entered the game with perfect records, but the home side ran riot, winning by 3-22 to 0-6 against a Barrs side who were without the services of Steven Sherlock and Cillian Myers Murray. Darragh Gough, returning to action after being in with the Cork U20s, was the main man for the home side as he hit the Barrs for 2-4. Dara Ó Se kicked 0-5, Chris Kenneally hit 1-1 while David Lowney and Tom Clancy both clipped over 0-3. On a tough morning for the city side, Cian O'Sullivan and Thomas Egan both had a brace of points. The Barrs' loss gave their neighbours, Nemo Rangers, the opportunity to join them on 10 points and the Trabeg side just about took their chance as they edged Castlehaven by 2-9 to 1-11 in Moneyvollahane. Nemo seemed to be in total control when they led by 2-9 to 0-8 with six minutes to go. Another Cork U20, Bryan Hayes, kicked 1-3 for Nemo, Ronan Dalton had clipped 1-1 while Conor Horgan helped himself to a brace of points. However, a goal from Donncha O'Donovan and three points from Mark Collins brought the Haven to within the minimum before they ran out of time. The Barrs have the head-to-head edge on Nemo, so they are in second place behind Clon. Newcestown moved into fourth spot after a late rally helped them to a 1-17 to 2-13 win over St Michael's in Mahon. Luke O'Herlihy continued his fine form for the home side as kicked 0-5, Liam O'Sullivan clipped 1-1, Kyle Leahy landed the other major and Daniel Meany scored 0-3. David Buckley led the way for the visitors as he kicked 0-7, including the winner, Niall Kelly contributed 0-4 while Darragh McGee's goal sparked their comeback. Douglas joined Newcestown on seven points as a result of their 3-12 to 0-13 win over Cill na Martra. Conor Russell's hot streak continued for Douglas as he clipped 1-6, 1-4 of which came from play, Dean Buckley hit 1-1 and Brian Powter raised their other green flag. Their goalkeeper, Andrew Cotter, also played his part in kicking a '45 and making a string of vital saves as Cill na Martra chased the game. Micheál Ó Deasúna and Jason MacCárthaigh both scored 0-3 for the Gaeltacht men while Seán Ó Fóirréidh and Ciarán Ó Duinnín both landed a brace of points. Finally, Carrigaline registered their first win of the campaign after they bested Éire Óg by 0-19 to 2-11 in Ovens. The win looked unlikely when they trailed by five points with three minutes of normal time remaining. Enter Brian Coakley. Carrig's talisman hit three two-point frees to power his side to victory. Coakley had already registered a two-point effort from play, his brother Niall hit 0-5 while Éanna Desmond's three-point haul also proved crucial. Dylan Foley was top man for the home side as he scored 1-2, Jerome Clifford accounted for their other goal while Rian O'Flynn and Darragh Clifford both clipped 0-2. Meanwhile in Division 2 Carbery Rangers took another step towards promotion after they made it six wins from six with a 1-20 to 1-10 win over Kanturk in Rosscarbery on Saturday evening. Ciarán Santry contributed 1-2 to the cause for Ross, John O'Rourke and Darragh Hayes both helped themselves to 0-5 while Timmy Cullinane kicked 0-3. Lorcán McLoughlin struck for Kanturk's major, Ian Walsh hit 0-3 while Colin Walsh and Gavin Kenehan both scored 0-2. Knocknagree are just two points behind Carbery Rangers after they pounced for a dramatic 4-7 to 1-15 win away to Ballincollig. All of Knocknagree's goals came in the opening half as they led by 4-3 to 0-3 at the interval. Matthew Dilworth converted a penalty, while David O'Connor, Denis O'Connor, who also hit three points, and Michael Mahoney raised the other green flags. Ballincollig made a supreme effort to overturn the deficit. Cian Dorgan led the charge with 1-2, Darragh O'Mahony landed 0-5 while Darren Murphy, Peter O'Neill and Ben O'Connell all hit 0-2 before they ran out of time. Dohenys are in the best position to challenge the top two after they defeated winless Fermoy by 3-15 to 1-11 on Thursday night in Dunmanway. The home side played the last ten minutes of the opening half with thirteen men after receiving two black cards, but they still made it to interval 1-7 to 0-6 to the good and from there they pushed on. Mark Buckley hit Fermoy for 1-6, Fionn Herlihy clipped 1-1, Aaron Mannix landed their other goal and Keith White scored 0-4. Finally, Castletownbere gave their chances of survival a real boost after they bested O'Donovan Rossa by 3-18 to 4-10 in Castletown. Lee Kelly scored 1-2 for the hosts, while James Harrington and Declan Dunne both pounced for 1-1. Andrew O'Sullivan's 0-5 haul included two two-point efforts while Fintan Fenner also raised two orange flags. The imperious Kevin Davis led the resistance for Rossa as he kicked 1-6 while Elliot Connolly, Thomas Hegarty and Dylan Hourihane Jnr struck for the other goals.
