Say goodbye to Maman at Khao Yai Art Forest
Khao Yai Art Forest in Nakhon Ratchasima invites interested people to come and say goodbye to a world-renowned sculpture during "Farewell To Maman", which will be held on Saturday and Sunday from 10am to 7pm. This is a special weekend celebrating the final days of Maman, a monumental spider by French-American artist Louise Bourgeois that, since its arrival in February, has captivated visitors worldwide. It is one of only seven editions worldwide and made its first Southeast Asian appearance in 25 years at Khao Yai Art Forest. Other editions reside in prestigious institutions including Tate Modern (UK), Guggenheim Museum Bilbao (Spain), Mori Art Museum (Japan) and the National Gallery of Canada. A symbol of nurture and protection, Maman evokes the tender strength of motherhood -- like a spider patiently weaving a web for her young. Nestled within Khao Yai's mountainous landscape and lush vegetation, the installation sparks an extraordinary dialogue between art, nature and humanity. The weekend will feature a vibrant series of workshops, performances and communal activities designed to make this farewell both a restorative and memorable experience, from 10am to 7pm. Besides viewing the beloved sculpture before it returns to the Easton Foundation in New York City, visitors can wander through the forest trails and explore other internationally acclaimed installations. They will enjoy an extraordinary khon performance that blends classical Thai mask dance with contemporary choreography to tell the poignant tale of Mandodari (Montho) from the Ramayana. It will be staged by Jitti Chompee and the masters from the Fine Arts Department, twice a day at 3.30pm and 5.30pm. They will have an opportunity to create unique botanical prints and explore the intricate patterns of Khao Yai's flora in an eco-printing workshop and embrace meditative creativity by arranging floral mandalas, a symbolic farewell to Maman and a gesture of respect to the Earth. Interested visitors are also invited to capture Maman from their favourite angle and post the photo on Instagram with the hashtag #farewelltomaman for a chance to win special prizes, until Sunday. Tickets cost 1,500 baht (4,500 baht including dinner at 7pm) and can be purchased from

Farewell weekend to Louise Bourgeois's spider sculpture
Khao Yai Art Forest will host 'Farewell To Maman', a special weekend celebrating the final days of Louise Bourgeois's world-renowned sculpture in Thailand. Since it arrived at Khao Yai Art Forest in February, Maman, the monumental spider by French-American artist Louise Bourgeois, has ensnared visitors from far and wide (pun intended). Conceived for Tate Modern in 1999, the artwork is one of seven editions in the world and made its first Southeast Asian debut in 25 years at Khao Yai Art Forest. Other editions are housed the Tate Modern (UK), Guggenheim Museum Bilbao (Spain), Mori Art Museum (Japan) and the National Gallery of Canada. (Photos: Andrea Rossetti) A symbol of nurture and protection, Maman (French for mother) evokes the tender strength of motherhood — like a spider mum patiently weaves a web for her young. The symbolism gets even more pronounced as the installation is nestled within Khao Yai's mountainous landscape and lush vegetation. The two-day adieu event features immersive art, communal workshops, and performances set against the serene embrace of Khao Yai. Besides the last chance of taking snapshots with the spider sculpture before its return to New York City's Easton Foundation, the other highlights are: Wander through the forest trails and explore internationally acclaimed installations, including Fujiko Nakaya's Khao Yai Fog Forest and Elmgreen & Dragset's K-Bar. Melancholy of Mandodari is an extraordinary khon performance by Jitti Chompee and the masters from the Fine Arts Department. Staged in a forest, it blends classical Thai mask dance with contemporary choreography to tell the poignant tale of Mandodari from the Ramayana. Discover the delicate art of eco-printing with natural materials in a hands-on session. Participants will create unique botanical prints, exploring the vibrant hues and intricate patterns of Khao Yai's flora. On Aug 16, Temp._in_set guides audiences through immersive ambient soundscapes. On Aug 17, Plern Vern ignites the forest with electrifying rhythms, blending traditional Isan folk beats with contemporary music. Embrace meditative creativity by arranging floral mandalas, a symbolic farewell to Maman and a gesture of respect to the Earth. Try community-sourced dishes and desserts, each is inspired by the culinary heritage of Khao Yai. You're gonna snap pictures with the spider anyway, so you may as well make it count for a chance to win prizes. Just capture Maman from your favourite angle and post the photo on Instagram with the hashtag #farewelltomaman to join the 'Farewell to Maman' photo contest. The submission deadline is Aug 17. The winner will receive B20,000 while 10 runners-up get B5,000 each. Two honourable mentions each get two tickets to Khao Yai Art Forest with lunch or dinner included. Get your tickets to "Farewell To Maman" at Ticketmelon.

Pancakes Perfect for a Sweet-Loving Dad on Father's Day
Every morning, I sip my coffee from a mug acquired on a vacation. Sometimes I'm in a buoyant mood. The porcelain cup displaying Jeff Koons' 'Puppy' at Guggenheim Museum Bilbao does the trick. The tall black mug from Cleveland's Rock and Roll Hall of Fame definitely sets a tone for the day. Souvenir mugs from Hawaii recall sunshine and delicious memories. I gather recipe ideas on those travels like keepsakes too. For example, one bite of banana cream pie pancakes on the menu at Cinnamon's Restaurant in Kailua, on the island of Oahu, rendered them worthy of recreating at home.

Guggenheim Museum Bilbao to Host Barbara Kruger's ‘Another Day. Another Night' Exhibition
Summary TheGuggenheim Museum Bilbaowill presentAnother day. Another night, the first comprehensive survey in Spain of influential American artistBarbara Kruger's work. Since the beginning of her career, Kruger has consistently challenged the function of language in media, politics and internal dialogues. Using bold, declarative phrases rendered in stark black-and-white text, often punctuated with red or green accents, she draws from the visual language of advertising to provoke reflection rather than sell products. Iconic phrases such as 'Your body is a battleground' and 'I shop therefore I am' have become part of the cultural lexicon, prompting critical questions about gender, consumerism, and authority. The exhibition will bring together a diverse range of works spanning Kruger's career, including early paste-ups, large-scale vinyl texts, video installations, audio interventions and site-specific pieces created specifically for the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao. As visitors move through the exhibition halls, Kruger's art will unfold across floors, walls and screens, immersing them in a charged visual and sonic environment. The exhibition will showcase a wide-ranging selection of Kruger's works, including early paste-ups, monumental vinyl texts, immersive video installations, audio interventions and new site-specific pieces conceived for the Guggenheim Bilbao. Spanning multiple media and decades, the exhibition transforms the museum's spaces – its floors, walls and screens – into an all-encompassing visual and sonic landscape. 'Language is a powerful force — and it defines us,' Kruger notes. In an age of nonstop information and destabilized truths, her work urges viewers to pause, scrutinize and reflect.
