Ipswich Town targets Chelsea's Marc Guiu for loan move

Ipswich Town are reportedly showing strong interest in signing Chelsea striker Marc Guiu on loan, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano. The Championship club are working on strengthening their squad after being relegated from the Premier League. They are focused on building a team that can challenge for immediate promotion back to the top flight. Following the expected departure of Liam Delap to Chelsea in a £30 million deal, Ipswich need a new forward. The club views Guiu as a potential short-term solution who can lead their attack next season. Although the two deals are not directly linked, the positive relationship between the clubs could smooth the pathway for the move. The young striker has been praised for his strength, quick movement and sharp awareness inside the box. He is often described as a 'specialist in the area' due to his ability to use space and time his runs smartly. Despite limited chances at Chelsea this season, Guiu scored six goals in 14 appearances. All of his goals came in the Europa Conference League, where he showed plenty of promise. Guiu made headlines during the campaign after scoring three goals against Shamrock Rovers, becoming the youngest player in the club's history to bag a European hat-trick. If the deal goes through, Guiu would be expected to play a key role in Ipswich's promotion push. Ipswich are confident they can secure his services, even though a final agreement has not yet been reached.

Chelsea striker Marc Guiu expected to miss FA Cup trip to Brighton with injury

Chelsea striker Marc Guiu is expected to miss the FA Cup fourth-round match at Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday after suffering a leg abductor injury. Guiu sustained the problem during added time of Chelsea's 2-1 win over West Ham after coming on as a substitute in the second half to help turn the game around. The 19-year-old stretched awkwardly in trying to convert Pedro Neto's cutback in the area and received treatment from Chelsea physios after staying down. Advertisement The forward, who joined from Barcelona for €6million (£5.1m; $6.4m) last summer, still looked in a lot of discomfort as he went down the tunnel with a member of Chelsea staff straight after the final whistle. He has missed training sessions this week. Head coach Enzo Maresca initially eased concerns in the post-match press conference after revealing Guiu had told him 'he was fine'. However, the club have conducted tests over the past few days with Guiu still feeling some pain in his upper leg. The hope is it is nothing too serious but he is already being earmarked to sit out the Brighton game as a precaution with more scans planned to take place. Guiu has scored eight goals in 13 appearances since moving to Stamford Bridge, all of which have come in the UEFA Conference League. The Spaniard would have had a great opportunity to possibly get more minutes against Brighton at the weekend. GO DEEPER Chelsea's Guiu deal is a no-lose situation - but can they make it a win?
