Fourth person charged over Gulf Harbour homicide appears in court

Shulai Wang, 70, of China, was identified seven months after her body was found. Photo: Supplied / Police The fourth person charged over the death of Chinese woman Shulai Wang - whose body was found in the waters of Gulf Harbour more than a year ago - has appeared at the North Shore District Court on Friday. The body of the 70-year-old woman was found in a black rubbish bag in the water on 12 March last year, but her identity was not revealed until October 2024. A 64-year-old man was charged on Thursday with manslaughter, kidnapping and interfering with human remains. The man made a first appearance before Judge Ajit Swaran Singh around midday, accompanied by a Mandarin interpreter. He appeared expressionless as he stood in the dock. The man has pleaded not guilty to all three charges and has been remanded on bail. Last year, a man and two women were charged in November for Wang's kidnapping and manslaughter. The man and one of the women also faced additional charges for perverting the course of justice, and giving false information to immigration officers. The three defendants all have interim name suppression pending the outcome of an appeal to the Court of Appeal. Fourth person charged in Gulf Harbour homicide case

Photo: Supplied / Police A fourth person has been charged more than a year after a woman was found dead, stuffed in a black rubbish bag, in Gulf Harbour north of Auckland. The body of 70-year-old Shulai Wang was found in March last year . A 64-year-old man has been arrested on the same manslaughter and kidnapping charges after police searched a property in Orewa. Police said the arrest came after a "gruelling 14-month investigation". A 37-year-old man, a 36-year-old woman and a 61-year-old woman were already facing charges of kidnapping and manslaughter. The new suspect will appear in North Shore District Court on Friday. "As the matter is before the court, police are limited in providing further comment," police said in a statement on Thursday.
