Armed reserve constable dismissed from service on charges of misconduct in Andhra Pradesh
Vijayawada: Armed reserve constable M Gunasekhar, who was attached to the special branch in NTR district police commissionerate, was dismissed from service following a departmental inquiry that confirmed multiple charges of grave misconduct and dereliction of duty. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Gunasekhar, who was earlier assigned duties at the police commissioner's office in Vijayawada, was accused of abandoning official responsibilities without authorisation and indulging in activities that compromised the integrity and discipline of the police force. An internal investigation found that he was frequently absent without permission and showed repeated disobedience to orders of senior officers. The dismissal order cites that despite multiple counselling sessions and opportunities for correction, the constable continued his erratic and unauthorised conduct, including failing to report to duty and not complying with departmental instructions. His actions, the report concluded, violated provisions of Andhra Pradesh Civil Services (Conduct) rules and undermined the credibility of the police department. NTR district police commissioner S V Rajashekhara Babu ratified the dismissal in accordance with AP Civil Services rules, after the disciplinary authority was satisfied that Gunasekhar's behaviour warranted removal from service in the interest of maintaining organisational discipline and public trust. Authorities reiterated that disciplinary standards in the police force are non-negotiable, and any breach, especially one involving repeated defiance and unauthorised absence, would attract the strictest of penalties. Gunasekhar will not be entitled to any benefits from the police department following his dismissal. The action should serve as a deterrent to others in uniform from engaging in similar misconduct, the dismissal order stated.

Tirupati cop held in drug trafficking case in Telangana; MP denies links
TIRUPATI: A constable from the Tirupati Armed Reserve, identified as Gunasekhar, has absconded after allegedly being implicated in a high-value drug trafficking case uncovered in Hyderabad. Telangana police arrested six persons, including Gunasekhar, while they were transporting narcotics worth approximately Rs 2 crore from Addanki in Bapatla district to Kukatpally in Hyderabad. The Cyberabad Special Operations Team (SOT) seized 840 grams of cocaine, other synthetic drugs, and cash in the operation. Among the arrested are Unnam Surendra of Tirupati Rural and four others from Prakasam and Bapatla districts. The case sparked political controversy after a social media handle affiliated with the TDP alleged that Gunasekhar had served as the personal security officer for YSRCP Tirupati MP Dr M Gurumoorthy for five years. In response, Dr Gurumoorthy clarified that Gunasekhar was relieved from his duties on February 26 and had reported back to the Tirupati SP for reassignment. A new gunman was officially posted to him thereafter. Dismissing the allegations as politically motivated, the MP accused the TDP's IT wing of spreading misinformation. He announced that he has written to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), requesting a thorough inquiry into the drug network, and urged Union Home Minister Amit Shah to intervene. The MP, in a video statement, asserted that official records support his version and warned of legal action against those spreading falsehoods.

Tirupati MP Gurumoorthy denies drug trafficking allegations
Tirupati: Tirupati MP M Gurumoorthy on Tuesday denied any involvement in drug trafficking activities following the arrest of a police constable who worked with him in the past in Hyderabad. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The special operations team of Telangana police had arrested six persons while they were trafficking different kinds of drugs worth approximately Rs 2 crore near Kukatpally area in Hyderabad on Monday. The arrested include Gunasekhar (40), a constable attached to Tirupati armed reserve police, U Surendra (31) from Tirupati rural, contractor D Haribabu Reddy, and three others belonging to different parts of the state. Gunasekhar was in possession of 840 grams of cocaine and other drugs and some cash when he was arrested. After reports linking the police constable and Tirupati MP went viral on various social media platforms as Gunasekhar worked as a gunman for Gurumoorthy in the past, the YSRCP leader clarified that Gunasekhar is no longer his gunman and now works in the armed reserve unit in Tirupati after he was surrendered back to the police dept. Condemning the allegations, he accused the ruling TDP of unleashing a smear campaign against him while asserting that he has no involvement in any kind of drug trafficking activities. "TDP promised a drugs-free Andhra Pradesh within 100 days of coming to power in the state but the ground reality is their own police force is indulging in drug trafficking activities which has been proved with the arrest of the armed reserve constable. I will initiate legal proceedings against those involved in the smear campaign against me," he warned, while adding that he will seek a central agency probe into the case to prove his innocence and to bring the real culprits involved to light.

AP thief stealing from sleeping train passengers arrested by Bengaluru cops
Bengaluru: A 43-year-old man from Andhra Pradesh has been arrested by Byappanahalli railway police for a string of thefts, targeting sleeping passengers on moving trains. The accused, identified as M Gunasekhar from Singalagunta in Chittoor district, was stealing laptops and mobile phones and later, selling them in Erode, Tamil Nadu. A complaint filed by Durga VM, a 24-year-old software engineer from Palakkad, Kerala, led to the breakthrough. On May 9, she complained to the police that her bag went missing during the early hours of April 7 from the upper berth of S10 coach of Ernakulam-SMVT Express (train no. 12683). Her bag contained two mobile phones — including an iPhone — her scooter key, a bluetooth neckband, and some cash, vanished. Durga recalled a man attempting to wake her up at KR Pura, claiming it was the last stop, before disappearing from the compartment. Upon calling her phone, she was shocked to find a man answering and demanding money in exchange for the return of her belongings. Believing his assurance, she transferred a small sum, but the demands continued — prompting her to finally file a police complaint. Superintendent of police (railways), SK Soumyalatha said their team worked on available leads and detained Gunasekhar.
