Tirupati cop held in drug trafficking case in Telangana; MP denies links
TIRUPATI: A constable from the Tirupati Armed Reserve, identified as Gunasekhar, has absconded after allegedly being implicated in a high-value drug trafficking case uncovered in Hyderabad.
Telangana police arrested six persons, including Gunasekhar, while they were transporting narcotics worth approximately Rs 2 crore from Addanki in Bapatla district to Kukatpally in Hyderabad.
The Cyberabad Special Operations Team (SOT) seized 840 grams of cocaine, other synthetic drugs, and cash in the operation. Among the arrested are Unnam Surendra of Tirupati Rural and four others from Prakasam and Bapatla districts.
The case sparked political controversy after a social media handle affiliated with the TDP alleged that Gunasekhar had served as the personal security officer for YSRCP Tirupati MP Dr M Gurumoorthy for five years. In response, Dr Gurumoorthy clarified that Gunasekhar was relieved from his duties on February 26 and had reported back to the Tirupati SP for reassignment. A new gunman was officially posted to him thereafter.
Dismissing the allegations as politically motivated, the MP accused the TDP's IT wing of spreading misinformation. He announced that he has written to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), requesting a thorough inquiry into the drug network, and urged Union Home Minister Amit Shah to intervene.
The MP, in a video statement, asserted that official records support his version and warned of legal action against those spreading falsehoods.

Pharma companies in South India, Gujarat transported over 1,200 kg cocaine to the national capital: Delhi Police chargesheet on Dubai-based cartel
The Delhi Police have said in their chargesheet that multiple pharma companies based in South India and Gujarat, including five legitimate and three shell, were used for transporting the 1,289 kg cocaine and 40 kg marijuana smuggled in by a Dubai-based cartel to the national capital last year. The chargesheet, running over 10,000 pages, was filed by the Delhi Police in the Patiala House court on Thursday. The chargesheet names 19 members allegedly linked to the cartel, 14 of whom have been arrested, including former Congressman Tushar Goyal, while five have been declared proclaimed offenders. The proclaimed offenders include Virender Basoya, the Dubai-based businessman funding the cartel operation, his son Rishab Basoya, 25, Ritik Bajaj, 36, Pramod, 50, and Vikas Rane, 49. 'Basoya's younger son, Rishab, was overseeing the coordination between Tushar Goel, Jassi, and their Mumbai customers. Vikas Rane was a customer from Mumbai who was set to arrive in Delhi to receive the Thai marijuana from Goyal and take it back to the city to distribute at rave parties. Pramod, an important henchman of Basoya, was overseeing the financial transactions,' a police officer said. On October 1, 562 kg of cocaine was seized in Mahipalpur, South Delhi. Then, on October 10, 208 kg of cocaine was seized from a shop in Ramesh Nagar, West Delhi. The third seizure was done on October 13, when Special Cell sleuths and the Gujarat Police recovered 518 kg of cocaine worth Rs 5,000 crore in the international market during a raid at a firm called Aavkar Drugs in Gujarat's Ankleshwar. Five people were arrested, including three of the company's listed directors – Ashwin Keshubhai Ramani, Brijesh Kothia, and Vijay Keshavlal Bhesania. Aavkar Drugs, which claims to manufacture chemical products on its website, was incorporated on September 23, 2016. The other two men arrested were Mayur, an employee of a fake company named Pharma Solutions Services, and middleman Amit Masuria, who allegedly aided the meeting between representatives of the two firms. During the October 1 raid, Delhi-based henchman Tushar Goyal was arrested along with three others. The Ramesh Nagar bust followed this. According to the Special Cell, 1,289 kg of cocaine and 40 kg of hydroponic Thai marijuana, worth Rs 13,000 crore, have been seized in this case so far. The police said it was all part of a consignment that the cartel operated by Basoya allegedly smuggled in. 'The drugs came to India at multiple locations from South America via Dubai. They were to arrive at Aavkar in multiple consignments by road to be refined and processed. Then they were transported as medicine packages of Pharma Solutions Services again via road to Delhi-NCR,' a police officer said. 'During the investigation, it was found that the drugs belonged to Pharma Solutions Services and came from Aavkar Drugs,' the officer added. 'Aavkar was involved with the Dubai cartel and Virender Basoya. Their communication channels are being investigated,' the officer said.

Chhattisgarh HC upholds 5 year RI for man in sexual assault of 2-year-old; conviction based on eyewitness testimony
Chhattisgarh HC RAIPUR: The Chhattisgarh high court has upheld the conviction and sentence of a 30-year-old man in a case involving the sexual assault of a two-year-ten-month-old child. Chief Justice Ramesh Sinha, in a judgment, dismissed the appeal filed by the convict and affirmed the trial court's decision. The court noted, 'The 'sterling witness' should be of a very high quality and calibre whose version should, therefore, be unassailable. The Court considering the version of such witness should be in a position to accept it for its face value without any hesitation.' The man, who was 26 years old at the time of the incident, was convicted under Section 363 of the Indian Penal Code, 1860, and Sections 9(m)(u) read with Section 10 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012. He was sentenced to five years of rigorous imprisonment and fined Rs 1,000 for each offence. The sentences will run concurrently. The incident took place on 28 November 2021 in Dhodha village, Khairagarh-Chhuikhadan-Gandai district. The victim's mother filed a complaint at Gandai police station, alleging that the accused had taken her daughter, who was playing at her aunt's house, and attempted an inappropriate act after removing their clothes. The victim's grandfather, an eyewitness, testified that he saw the convict with his trousers partially lowered and the victim's clothes also pulled down. He immediately intervened and brought the child home. The victim's mother sucported this statement, saying her sister-in-law had seen the accused taking the child. The defence argued that there was no conclusive evidence and that the man had been falsely implicated. They also pointed out the absence of a medical report to confirm any outrage to the victim's modesty. The convict has been in jail since 1 December 2021, having served around three years and six months. The state counsel countered that the prosecution had proved its case beyond reasonable doubt, relying on eyewitness testimony. Chief Justice Sinha observed that the Supreme Court has consistently ruled that the sole testimony of a victim, if found reliable, can be sufficient for conviction in sexual assault cases. Considering the statements of the eyewitnesses and Supreme Court precedents, the High Court concluded that the Special Additional Sessions Judge, Khairagarh, had rightly convicted the man. The high court also noted the strong objection raised by the victim's mother, who appeared through the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA). The court dismissed the criminal appeal, stating that the prosecution had successfully proved its case beyond all reasonable doubt. The convict will now serve the sentence as ordered by the trial court.
