Traffic restrictions, diversions imposed in Chandigarh for Independence Day function
1 2 Chandigarh: In view of the celebration of the Independence Day function at Parade Ground in Sector 17, UT traffic police have imposed some traffic restrictions and diversions on Friday. In its advisory issued for the general public, traffic police said that Parade Ground, Sector 17, shall remain closed from 6 am onwards until the function at the Parade Ground is over. The road will be closed from the roundabout of Sector 16/17/22/23 up to Gurdial Singh Petrol Pump, Sector 22A on Udyog Path, and from the old district court, Sector 17, up to Shivalik Hotel on the backside of Parade Ground, Sector 17. The public is also requested to avoid the road from Lyon's Restaurant Light Point near MC Office Sector 17 up to Parade Ground. Police said no general parking shall be allowed in the parking area in front of shops in the market of Sector 22 A from 6 am onwards until the function is over. People can park their vehicles at Neelam Cinema parking, Sector 17, and multi-level parking, Sector 17. Buses coming to ISBT Sector 17 will be diverted via Himalaya Marg from 10.30 am to 11.30 am. Chandigarh Police issue traffic advisory for Independence Day: here are the roads to avoid
Chandigarh Police have issued a traffic advisory for August 15, in view of the Independence Day event to be held at the Parade Ground in Sector 17. Traffic will be regulated from 6.30 am until the event concludes. The police advisory mentions that several roads and routes around the Parade Ground will remain closed or diverted, including Udyog Path (Sector 16/17/22/23 to Gurdial Singh Petrol Pump), Old District Court to Shivalik Hotel, Lyon's Light Point to Parade Ground, Sector 22/23 Light Point to Sector 16/17–22/23, and Sector 16/23 Small Chowk to Cricket Stadium Chowk. No general parking will be allowed in front of the Sector 22-A market on Friday. However, there will be designated parking areas such as Sector 22-B parking, Circus Ground in Sector 17, Neelam Cinema parking, and the multi-level parking in Sector 17. The police said that buses to ISBT Sector 17 will be diverted via Himalaya Marg. Between 10.30 am and 11.30 am, traffic will be diverted away from ISBT Sector 17, except for buses, to ensure smooth dispersal. All attendees of the Independence Day event in the Parade Ground should be seated by 8.30 am. Special invitees will have gates 4, 6, and 7; the general public will have gates 8, 9, and 10; and the media will have gate 5. Attendees must carry an original photo ID, while special invitees are required to display parking labels and carry invitations, said the police.
