A Calgary community group is giving away free groceries and another one is hosting a fund-raising house concert to raise funds for those in need.
Guru Nanak Free Kitchen YYC will be handing out the groceries starting at 5 p.m. Friday at the Brentwood Community Association, which is located at 1520B Northmount Drive NW.
The grocery giveaway is open to everyone in the area. No registration is required.
'Food insecurity is a national crisis – and rising tariffs are only making it worse,' the organization said in a release. 'Let's come together as a community to support one another.
'Love All. Feed All. Canadians in Need.
'Please spread the word to anyone who could benefit. No one should go hungry.'

Guru Nanak is a Calgary community group that previously gave away groceries around the holidays in late December, 2023 near the McKnight C Train station, an event organizers said they anticipated upwards of 3,000 to attend.
The group also took to the streets of Bowness and Montgomery in the summer of 2024 to distribute free water during the water main break.

House concert series
Sunday afternoon, the Brentwood Community Association is kicking off its Calgary House Concert series by presenting Tremoloco in concert, to benefit the Brentwood Little Library and the Veteran's Food Bank.
Tremoloco, a release says, hail from California and Alberta, blending 'a spicy mix of Tex-Mex, Gulf Coast grooves, Americana and roots rock into a sound they describe as 'MexifolkAmericana.'
The band are launching a Canadian tour Friday night in Red Deer.
Tickets are available for $25 online or pay-what-you-can donations can be made upon arrival at the Brentwood Sportsplex, at the same address the free groceries are being given away at.
'This will be the second summer hosting Pay What You Can concerts in support of local Food Banks,' said Cam Howey, a member of Brentwood Cares.
'The Brentwood Cares Little Food Library is in summer number six of providing 24-7, barrier free access to food. It's one of three micro-food pantries in Brentwood, (and) a sign of the tremendous need in our community.'
Volunteers will be on hand at the concert collecting food donations. They recommend non-perishable items including beans with or without pork, macaroni and cheese, rice, insta noodles, cereal, pasta and sauce, canned fish or meat, peanut butter, soup, canned fruit or vegetables, granola bars and cookies.
Donations can also be dropped off any time at 33624 Boulton Rd. NW, or directly to the pantry or on the box or porch.
