Gangster shot dead in UP police encounter
THE UP Police's Special Task Force (STF) shot dead a gangster with around 70 criminal cases against him in an encounter in the Ramnagar thickets of Barabanki district on Wednesday, officers said. Gyan Chandra Paswan, hailed from Gonda district, police said.
Police said he was wanted in a murder case and a reward of Rs 1 lakh had been declared for information leading to his capture. The police also claimed to have recovered firearms and a large quantity of ammunition from his possession. Gyan Chandra was also facing several other charges, such as attempt to murder, violations of the UP Gangster Act and the UP Goonda Act, police said.
According to the police, Gyan Chandra was allegedly involved in the murder of a man during a burglary in the Umri Begumganj area of Gonda on the night of April 24-25. The crime occurred when the victim woke up after hearing noises and tried to apprehend the intruders, leading to a confrontation with Gyan Chandra and his gang members, police said.
