Viktor Gyokeres makes telling two-word comment in behind the scenes Arsenal clip
Viktor Gyokeres has made his feelings about joining Arsenal clear in a behind-the-scenes clip that suggests that tension had been rife in the Swedish international's camp Arsenal fans have been given a glimpse into Viktor Gyokeres' mindset following his blockbuster move to the Emirates Stadium. Last week, the Gunners' long search for a superstar striker came to an end after they sealed a £55million deal - potentially rising to £63.5m - for the Swede. The club's shirt sales record was swiftly shattered as supporters rushed to snap up Gyokeres jerseys, particularly after he chose the iconic No. 14, famously worn by Arsenal legend Thierry Henry. And it's not just the fans buzzing with excitement; Gyokeres himself has shown plenty of enthusiasm about the move. In a behind-the-scenes clip during his Arsenal unveiling, the 27-year-old was asked how he's feeling, and simply replied: "Better now." It's a statement that speaks volumes about his relief and excitement after a protracted transfer saga finally reached its conclusion. The journey to secure Gyokeres' signature was anything but straightforward. Arsenal had been locked in negotiations with Sporting CP for weeks, with the Portuguese club initially playing hardball over the agreed-upon fee. Having blasted 97 goals in 102 games in Portugal and helping Sporting clinch back-to-back Primeira Liga titles, Gyokeres was disheartened when the club appeared to renege on their gentlemen's agreement to let him leave for around £58m - significantly less than his £86m release clause. As a result, tensions rose, especially when Arsenal started focusing on a deal to sign RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko. Gyokeres threatened to go on strike, telling the club he wouldn't be turning up for pre-season training in an effort to force their hand. Eventually, Sporting lowered their asking price, and with negotiations for Sesko stalling, Arsenal pivoted back to Gyokeres. But an agreement was anything but swift. At one point, it seemed the deal might collapse, leaving fans frustrated and Gyokeres in limbo. However, Arsenal's persistence paid off, and the forward is now a Gunner, ready to lead the line in Mikel Arteta's Premier League title-chasing side. Gyokeres' "better now" comment, delivered with a subtle smile, hints at more than just physical well-being. It suggests a weight has been lifted off his shoulders after months of uncertainty. The transfer saga, which dominated headlines and tested the patience of all involved, is finally over, and he appears to be embracing his new chapter in north London with open arms. The former Coventry City star, who scored an astonishing 54 goals in 52 appearances last season, is seen as the final piece in Arteta's attacking puzzle. His pace, physicality, and clinical finishing are expected to elevate Arsenal's title challenge, and his positive demeanour in the clip only fuels the optimism surrounding his arrival. Arteta, too, will be delighted with Gyokeres' early integration. The Spaniard has long prioritised players who buy into the club's culture, and Gyokeres' relaxed yet focused attitude suggests he's ready to hit the ground running. "I know [Arsenal], I've watched them before, so they (Arteta and sporting director Andrea Berta) didn't have to sell it for me. I was already excited about it," Gyokeres added. "To come here was a really big thing for me, to be honest."

Viktor Gyokeres shirt sales break Arsenal record
Shirt sales for Arsenal's new signing Viktor Gyokeres have broken the club's record. While data from various outlets and retailers is still being analysed, it is already clear that demand for Gyokeres' No 14 shirt exceeds that of any player in recent history. Gyokeres, 27, completed his move to Arsenal on July 26 for an initial €63.5million (£54.8m, $74.2m), before immediately flying to Asia to join the club's pre-season tour of Singapore and Hong Kong. He was introduced to the crowd at the Singapore National Stadium ahead of the friendly against Newcastle, and received a tremendous ovation from the fans in attendance. Advertisement After the match, manager Mikel Arteta spoke of how Arsenal's players and staff are 'very excited' about Gyokeres' arrival — and it would seem that sentiment is shared by the supporters. Arsenal fans have been waiting for a new striker for some time. There has been huge anticipation surrounding the acquisition of a centre-forward, and Gyokeres' arrival has prompted enormous excitement among fans. There is, of course, a special significance to Gyokeres' squad number. His preference is to wear No 9, but that is already occupied at Arsenal by Gabriel Jesus. Gyokeres then expressed a desire to wear 14 — the number worn by Arsenal's record goalscorer, Thierry Henry. To mark Gyokeres' arrival, Arsenal offered to print his name on any of next season's Arsenal shirts for free — a service which would normally cost £16. The offer was valid either in person at one of the club stores, or via the official online shop. Demand was so high that the shop's website temporarily crashed. The Gyokeres name and number giveaway will continue until Thursday. With that support, it is expected that the record figures will stretch even higher. Before Gyokeres' arrival, Bukayo Saka, Declan Rice, and Martin Odegaard have been among the most popular names on Arsenal shirts. Since his breakthrough into the first team, there has also been significant demand for Myles Lewis-Skelly shirts — augmented by the fact he wears 49, the number of games that Arsene Wenger's Invincibles went without losing. Since joining from Sporting CP, Gyokeres has outstripped them all. Gyokeres trained with Arsenal in Singapore on Tuesday morning before flying to Hong Kong, where they face north London rivals Tottenham at Kai Tak Sports Park on Thursday, July 31.

Viktor Gyokeres accepts Sporting punishment ahead of £63m Arsenal transfer
Viktor Gyokeres has accepted his fine from Sporting CP in order to complete his £63 million transfer to Arsenal. After weeks of negotiations, Arsenal have finally agreed a deal with Sporting for the 27-year-old worth €63.5m (£54.8m) up front, plus €10m (£8.6m) in add-ons. Gyokeres travelled to London on Friday and is due to undergo his medical this weekend before finalising his move to the Gunners. Mikel Arteta is hopeful that Gyokeres will be able to link up with his new Arsenal teammates as soon possible with the squad currently in Singapore for their pre-season tour. Gyokeres went on strike in order to force through his switch to Arsenal as he refused to report back for pre-season training with Sporting CP on July 12. Sporting were angered by Gyokeres' refusal to return to training as an agreement over the €10m (£8.6m) add-on payments had not been reached with Arsenal at that point. According to Record, Sporting president, Frederico Varandas, demanded that Gyokeres forgo his entire salary for July after taking 13 days of unauthorised absence. Varandas was also angered by Gyokeres' decision to have another holiday in Mallorca last week while his Sporting teammates were in pre-season training. More Trending Gyokeres has now agreed to give up his salary for July, which is worth €350,000 (£306,000), but Sporting have allowed the striker to keep the bonus payments he received for last season, including €500,000 (£437,000) for over 50 goals and assists combined. The Sweden international, who scored 97 goals in 102 appearances in two seasons at Sporting, has now agreed a five-year contract with Arsenal and is set to wear the No.14 shirt for the upcoming season. When asked directly about Gyokeres' move to Arsenal, Arteta said on Friday: 'You know I cannot talk about a player who is not ours yet. 'Whatever happens in the next few hours I'm sure the club will make a statement about it.' For more stories like this, check our sport page.
