Gypsy-Rose Blanchard calls daughter a new beginning on anniversary of mom's death
On Monday, June 9, Gypsy-Rose Blanchard took to Instagram to commemorate the day that has two meanings. Alongside a photo of herself and her partner Ken Urker holding up sonogram images from when she was pregnant with their daughter Aurora, Blanchard wrote that June 9 is 'ONE day, TWO meanings.' 'One year ago, we saw Aurora for the first time in this sonogram and my heart has never been the same,' the new mom wrote. 'She is my light, my joy, my greatest blessing.' Blanchard and Urker announced the birth of their daughter, Aurora Raina, on New Year's Day. However, June 9 'also marks 10 years since the death of' Blanchard's mom, Clauddine 'Dee Dee' Blanchard. Dee Dee Blanchard was killed in 2015. During her 2018 testimony, Gypsy-Rose Blanchard admitted she 'wanted to be free of her' mother's hold on her, and persuaded her then-boyfriend, Nicholas Godejohn, to kill Dee Dee Blanchard. 'I talked him into it,' she said during the trial, NPR reported. According to Blanchard's attorney, Michael Stanfield, Dee Dee Blanchard had Munchausen syndrome by proxy, now known as factitious disorder imposed on another. The Cleveland Clinic categorizes factitious disorder imposed on another as a 'mental health condition where you pretend that someone within your care is sick when they aren't. It's a type of abuse.' As a result of her alleged involvement in her mother's death, Gypsy-Rose Blanchard pleaded guilty to second-degree murder, according to ABC News. She was sentenced to 10 years of prison, but released in December 2023 after serving more than 8 years. As Gypsy-Rose Blanchard continued her statement, she said her mom was 'a woman known not for love, but for the abuse she inflicted on me. That pain shaped my life in ways that led to tragic choices, consequences, and years we BOTH can never get back.' 'I won't pretend she was a good person,' the 33-year-old continued. 'And I won't pretend I've been perfect either. But Aurora… she represents a new beginning.' Gypsy-Rose Blanchard says her daughter is now 'a chance to break every cycle. A chance to raise someone with love, truth, and freedom. A chance to give her a life better than what I had and better than my past choices.' 'I may carry the past, but she carries my future,' the mom continued. 'And I pray that who she becomes will be greater than who I was, and greater than the woman who came before me.'

Gypsy-Rose Blanchard Breaks Down Over the Idea of Having To Explain Her Past to Her Daughter
When it comes to confessions, Gypsy-Rose Blanchard has a pretty big one to make. That's because the new mom once spent a few years behind bars for her role in the murder of her mother, DeeDee Blanchard. A fact that Blanchard recently broke down in tears over, after she realized that some day she'd need to share all of the messy details from that part of her life with her new little girl. Related: Gypsy-Rose Blanchard Shares Update About Her Daughter Aurora According to People magazine, Blanchard laid her fears bare during a recent episode of Gypsy Rose: Life After Lockup. During an update about how hard the early days were with her newborn daughter Aurora, the new mom began to reflect on how she would eventually go about explaining her relationship with her notorious mother, who manipulated the 33-year-old for entire life. 'I know the things that I'm responsible for, such as feeding her and changing her. But also like, while you guys were on lunch, I had another breakdown," the new mom confessed as tears began to well in her eyes. "I'm sorry, I just, I'm putting all of this effort in. And I have been hit with the question, 'How are you going to tell your daughter about what you did?'" Blanchard managed to say through tears. "And I just want to know that she's going to love me and forgive me for what I did in my past. I just don't want that to cloud her mind and her end up hating me." Once she was able to calm down a little bit, she shared her hope that her daughter would eventually be able to forgive her for how she handled being a victim of Munchausen by proxy. 'And I'm not a monster. And I don't want her to grow up thinking that I'm one," the new mom continued. "You hear about families that have deep dark secrets and they have skeletons in their closet and their kids disown them and hate them, growing up resenting them. And I just don't want that to be the case for us." Unfortunately for Blanchard, this family secret isn't exactly a secret. The story made headlines across the country when the news came out about her mother's murder, and there were many movies and television shows made about what went on in the days leading up to the crime, including how big of a role Blanchard played in her mother's death. On the flip side, Blanchard also has the truth on her side. And being able to show her daughter what she went through, and what the courts had to say about her involvement, may help her to share her story. For now, the new mama has plenty of time to figure things out while she enjoys getting to know her little girl. Up Next:

Gypsy-Rose Blanchard has shared a glimpse into her weight loss journey, revealing she has lost 25 pounds since her release from prison. The reality TV personality posted a before-and-after image on Instagram on 13 April, documenting her physical transformation for her growing fan base. The star of Gypsy Rose: Life After Lockup appeared in two photos side by side. The first showed her at a red carpet event in a black dress, while the second, taken more recently, featured Blanchard in a white top and jeans posing in front of a mirror. The caption read: 'My 25lbs weight loss.' Fans filled the comments with messages of encouragement, with responses such as '"Amazing. Strong. Ready to take on the world. How did you do it & how long did it take you,' and 'It's honestly insane how much weight can change a person". Others appeared more skeptical about transformation with comments like, "Is it sustainable or just another short-term achievement in a cycle of dieting?" and, "You look taller too? Did you get your knees done?". Blanchard responded to the comments by sharing more about her approach to health. She wrote, 'I've seen a lot of comments of people asking how I lost the weight, so my weight loss journey started once getting out of prison. When I started eating healthier instead of prison food, the weight began to fall off. I started eating twice a day and smaller portions.' Blanchard, who gave birth to her daughter Aurora in December 2024, has been increasingly open about her post-prison life, including changes to her appearance and daily habits.
