Visa issues played their part in the striker's late arrival for pre-season training - although he produced an eye-catching cameo in the 2-0 pre-season first leg win against Panathinaikos.
French outfit Lille are known to be admirers of the player - with the likes of Premier League Everton also credited with an interest.
And there's sure to be fresh speculation about the player's future after his omission from today's line-up - especially as Russell Martin did nothing to clear up the uncertainty.
While Martin wasn't specifically asked about the star, who was left out despite only playing the latter stages in midweek, he said: "There's a lot of opportunity for players who didn't play in midweek.
"There will be a lot of different players on the pitch today. The team that finishes will look very different from the one that starts.
"It's huge for the young players they need to experience it and feel it and be part of something long term here.
"There's also a couple of guys coming back from minor injuries and knocks and there first time on the pitch."
