HAWANA Special Award Recognition Of Rozaid's Legacy
GENERAL KUALA LUMPUR, June 14 (Bernama) – The HAWANA 2025 Special Award accorded to the late Rozaid Abdul Rahman is a heartfelt tribute to his service, dedication, and legacy in the field of local journalism, said Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. The Prime Minister described the former Director of Media and Strategic Communications at the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) as principled, responsible and a true champion of press freedom. 'The nation's journalism fraternity continues to remember the exemplary figure of the late Rozaid Abdul Rahman. 'To me, he was more than a journalist, he was a true friend, a sharp thinker and a genuine fighter for media freedom grounded in principles and accountability,' Anwar said in a Facebook post. He expressed hope that the late Rozaid's spirit and values would continue to inspire young media practitioners to uphold truth, honour ethics and strengthen democracy. At the HAWANA 2025 highlight celebration held at the World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur (WTCKL) here today, Anwar presented the HAWANA 2025 Special Award to Rozaid's son, Roz Ariffin, witnessed by Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil and over 1,000 local and international media practitioners. Also present were Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) Chairman Datuk Seri Wong Chun Wai, Bernama Chief Executive Officer Datin Paduka Nur-ul Afida Kamaludin, and Bernama Editor-in-Chief Arul Rajoo Durar Raj, who is also the Project Director of HAWANA 2025. Rozaid, who died on Aug 18, 2024 from a heart attack, is remembered as a highly influential figure in Malaysian journalism, with over four decades of experience in the media industry. He was appointed Director of Media and Strategic Communications at the PMO on May 23, 2023, where he played a key role in overseeing government communications and media strategies.

RM30m allocation will boost digital shift in media industry
KUALA LUMPUR: The RM30 million allocation for local media organisations will support digital transformation and the adoption of new technologies in content creation, Communications Ministry secretary-general Datuk Mohamad Fauzi Md Isa said. The allocation was announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim when he officiated the National Journalists Day (HAWANA) 2025 main event held at the World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur (WTCKL) here today, in line with efforts to strengthen the media ecosystem and sustainability in the country. Mohamad Fauzi, who was present at the event, also welcomed AirAsia's one-time 50 per cent discount offer for all verified media practitioners on flights to 57 destinations across ASEAN, describing it as greatly appreciated. 'The Prime Minister also presented the HAWANA 2025 Special Award to the family of the late Rozaid Abdul Rahman, and Datuk Yong Soo Heong was named the recipient of the HAWANA 2025 Award in recognition of their contributions to journalism,' he said in a Facebook post today. HAWANA 2025, themed 'Journalism in the New Era: Embracing AI, Safeguarding Ethics', was celebrated with great enthusiasm and attended by over 1,000 local and international media practitioners. May 29 has been officially gazetted as National Journalists Day to commemorate the publication of the first edition of 'Utusan Melayu' on May 29, 1939, in honour of media professionals who play a vital role in shaping an informed society. The HAWANA 2025 highlight celebration was also attended by Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Federal Territories) Datuk Seri Dr Zaliha Mustafa and Deputy Communications Minister Teo Nie Ching. Also present were Bernama chairman Datuk Seri Wong Chun Wai, Bernama chief executive officer Datin Paduka Nur-ul Afida Kamaludin, Bernama editor-in-chief Arul Rajoo Durar Raj, who is also HAWANA 2025 project director, and the top management of local media companies.

Late Rozaid Rahman honoured posthumously at HAWANA 2025
KUALA LUMPUR: The late Rozaid Abdul Rahman was posthumously honoured at the National Journalists' Day (HAWANA) 2025. Rozaid, who served as the media and strategic communications director for Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, was the recipient of the HAWANA 2025 Special Award. His eldest son, Roz Ariffin, 34, accepted the award from Anwar at the HAWANA 2025 gathering held at the Kuala Lumpur World Trade Centre (WTCKL) on Saturday (June 14). Rozaid previously held the position of group consulting editor at The Star and passed away from a heart attack on August 18 last year. He was also the group editor of Sinar Harian. Born on October 1, 1964, in Nibong Tebal, Penang, Rozaid began his career as a cadet journalist at the Utusan Melayu newspaper in 1984 and became the youngest news editor of the Utusan Group at 27. The Malaysian Press Institute Chairman President Datuk Yong Soo Heong received the HAWANA 2025 Award. He previously served as Bernama's editor-in-chief. With over five decades of experience in the media industry, Yong began his journalism career at The Star and The Straits Echo.

PM Anwar arrives to officiate HAWANA 2025 celebration
KUALA LUMPUR — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim (picture) has arrived at the World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur (WTCKL) to officiate the highlight of the National Journalists' Day (HAWANA) 2025 celebration. He arrived at 11.45 am and was welcomed by Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil and his deputy Teo Nie Ching. Also present were Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Federal Territories) Datuk Seri Dr Zaliha Mustafa; Ministry of Communications Secretary-General Datuk Mohamad Fauzi Md Isa; Bernama Chairman Datuk Seri Wong Chun Wai; Bernama Chief Executive Officer Datin Paduka Nur-ul Afida Kamaludin; and Bernama Editor-in-Chief Arul Rajoo Durar Raj, who is also the director of HAWANA 2025. The Prime Minister is scheduled to address approximately 1,000 guests, comprising local and international media practitioners. Themed 'Journalism in the New Era: Embracing AI, Safeguarding Ethics', HAWANA 2025 is organised by the Ministry of Communications, with Bernama as the implementing agency, and supported by various media organisations and strategic industry partners. The Prime Minister will also present the HAWANA 2025 Special Award and the HAWANA 2025 Award, to individuals who have made significant contributions in the field of journalism. In addition, he will present prizes to the winners of the HAWANA-DBP 2025 Pantun Festival, held on May 31. In addition, he is scheduled to present contributions from the Tabung Kasih@HAWANA to three veteran journalists in need, as a gesture of appreciation and concern for media professionals who have shaped the landscape of journalism in the country. Representatives from media associations, journalist clubs, and news organisations from Singapore, Indonesia, Japan, Kuwait, and China have gathered in the capital since Friday, participating in a series of programmes held in conjunction with the prestigious event, now in its fifth edition. The HAWANA celebration was first introduced in 2018 to honour the contributions of journalists to national development, with May 29 chosen as the official date, in recognition of the first publication of 'Utusan Melayu' in 1939. — BERNAMA
