IPL suspends matches for a week after PSL moves games to United Arab Emirates

The Indian Premier League has confirmed that all its matches will be suspended with immediate affect for one week due to escalating tensions in the region. The IPL's announcement follows confirmation from the Pakistan Cricket Board that the Pakistan Super League season will be concluded in the United Arab Emirates. Tensions have escalated sharply following Indian missile strikes that killed at least 26 people in disputed Kashmir last weekend, which Pakistan has vowed to avenge. In a statement, the IPL confirmed that updates regarding a new schedule and venues will be announced in due course following consultations with stakeholders and franchisees. It added: "While the BCCI [Board of Control for Cricket in India] reposes full faith in the strength and preparedness of our armed forces, the Board considered it prudent to act in the collective interest of all stakeholders. At this critical juncture, the BCCI stands firmly with the nation." Tom Moffat, the chief executive of the World Cricketers' Association, told the PA news agency: "It has been concerning to see the situation unfold in India and Pakistan and we hope that the situation de-escalates as soon as possible. "Cricket is secondary to the health and safety of the people in both countries, including the players competing in the IPL and PSL. "WCA and our member associations have been in regular contact with impacted players and assisting with advice to help with their individual decisions, supported by our expert security consultants." "We are pleased both events have acted on concerns raised." The PCB said it had made its decision to attempt to conclude its competition in the UAE as a consequence of India allegedly targeting the match between Quetta Gladiators and Islamabad United in Rawalpindi on Wednesday evening with a surveillance drone. It follows the postponement of a match on Thursday between Karachi Kings and Peshawar Zalmi. Confirming the switch to Dubai, PCB chair Mohsin Naqvi added: "The PCB has always stood by the position that politics and sports need to be kept apart. "However, in view of the extremely irresponsible and dangerous Indian act of targeting the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, which was manifestly done to disrupt the ongoing HBL Pakistan Super League X, the PCB has decided to shift the remaining matches to UAE so that the domestic as well as foreign cricketers, who are our precious guests, can be saved from the possible reckless targeting by India."

Will Operation Sindoor affect Pakistan Super League? PCB breaks silence, Bangladesh monitoring players' safety

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has decided to continue with the ongoing Pakistan Super League (PSL) amid the cross border tensions between India and Pakistan. After the Pahalgam terrorist attack on April 22, that killed 26 innocent lives, the Indian Army retaliated with missile attacks on nine terrorists camps in Pakistan on the wee hours of Wednesday as a part of Operation Sindoor. With the PSL currently going on in Pakistan, the cross border tensions certainly been the talking point considering the safety of the local and overseas players competing in the tournament. According to a NDTV report, there has been no request from any of the overseas players to withdraw from PSL. 'At least three media managers of the six franchises in the league said it was a developing situation but so far no overseas player (s) from their teams had requested to leave the league. Each franchise in the league has 5-6 overseas players in their squads,' the report read. Meanwhile, the PCB has issued a statement on Wednesday stating the PSL with go on as scheduled. 'The Pakistan Cricket Board has confirmed that HBL Pakistan Super League X will continue as planned with Islamabad United set to take on Quetta Gladiators later today at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium,' the PCB statement read. "The toss will take place at 7.30pm, with the first ball to be bowled at 8pm. Tonight's match sees the return of HBL PSL to Rawalpindi for four matches on 7, 8, 9 and 10 May. Thereafter the final group stage match is scheduled in Multan on 11 May. 'The Qualifier is set to take place in Rawalpindi on 13 May, while both Eliminators (1 and 2) and Final of the marquee event are to take place on 14, 16 and 18 May, respectively at the Gaddafi Stadium,' it added. On the other hand, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is closely monitoring the situation in Pakistan and the safety of their players in PSL. Bangladesh has two players Rishad Hossain (Lahore Qalandars) and Nahid Rana (Peshawar Zalmi) participating in PSL 2025. "The BCB is in active coordination with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and the Bangladesh High Commission in Islamabad to ensure that all necessary measures are in place to guarantee the security of our players," the BCB said in a release.

Is HBL PSL 10 postponed? PCB confirms answer

Listen to article The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has confirmed that the HBL Pakistan Super League X (PSL 10) will continue as scheduled, with Islamabad United set to take on Quetta Gladiators on May 7 at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, despite escalating regional tensions. The toss is scheduled for 7:30 PM, with the match beginning at 8:00 PM sharp, kicking off a four-match Rawalpindi leg to be held on May 7, 8, 9, and 10. The final league stage game will be played in Multan on May 11. The announcement comes amid heightened hostilities between Pakistan and India following a series of cross-border military escalations. According to official sources, Pakistan's armed forces shot down five Indian Air Force jets, a combat drone, and destroyed a brigade headquarters in retaliation to Indian missile strikes targeting cities in Punjab and AJK. Despite the unfolding security crisis, PCB has reaffirmed that there will be no changes to the HBL PSL X schedule. The playoff stage will begin with the Qualifier in Rawalpindi on May 13, while both Eliminators (May 14 and 16) and the Final (May 18) will be hosted at Lahore's Gaddafi Stadium.
