Kudumbashree signs MoU with ICAR-CTCRI on tuber crop cultivation

Thiruvananthapuram: Kudumbashree and the Indian Council of Agricultural Research - Central Tuber Crops Research Institute ( ICAR-CTCRI ) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to provide 12 advanced technologies in tuber crop cultivation . The agreement was signed by Kudumbashree executive director H Dineshan and ICAR-CTCRI director G Baiju at a ceremony held at Central Tuber Crops Research Institute in Sreekariyam. This is the first agreement under the Kudumbashree technology advancement programme (K-TAP), designed to guide thousands of neighbourhood group members engaged in agriculture towards modern scientific farming methods and sustainable income. Under this agreement, Kudumbashree will receive 12 technologies focused on value addition and food processing of tuber crops, including techniques for making cookies, kulfi, muffins, snacks, pasta and jelly using cassava and sweet potatoes. In the coming weeks, Kudumbashree aims to acquire additional technologies from seven other leading agricultural research institutions in India, creating a repository of 180 technologies to launch products by Onam. Dineshan said that selected neighbourhood group members will soon receive training in these technologies. There are also producer groups, agricultural enterprises and farmer producer companies. The K-TAP technology repository will be utilised to strengthen the livelihoods of these women farmers. The technologies will be used for processing agricultural products, value addition of millets, organic production methods, smart farming, eco-friendly packaging, branding and licensing, leading to the expansion and increased income of existing enterprises.
