Elite Tactical Unit Heroes Thrill Crowds At Kelantan PMR 2025

KOTA BHARU, Aug 7 (Bernama) -- The atmosphere at the Kelantan edition of the MADANI Rakyat Programme (PMR) 2025 was lively as visitors were given the opportunity to meet the nation's security forces up close at the compound of Sultan Muhammad IV Stadium, here today. Elite units under the Home Ministry, such as the Special Tactical Team (PASTAK), Special Tasks and Rescue (STAR) team, and Criminal Investigation Department (CID), took turns making appearances every three hours over the three-day event. What made the showcase even more special was the appearance of the officers in full tactical gear, complete with HK MP5 firearms, a sight seldom seen by the public in an open setting. In addition to witnessing demonstrations, visitors were also given the chance to take selfies with the officers. The presence of these tactical units also helped instil patriotism and deepen public appreciation for the sacrifices made by security personnel in safeguarding the nation's sovereignty and peace. One of the visitors, Nur Amirah Husna Mohd Riduan, 16, a student at Sekolah Menengah Sains Gua Musang, said she was excited to see the security officers in person. 'We usually see them in textbooks and on TV, but today we saw them with our own eyes. It was such a thrilling experience and made me proud,' she told Bernama. Meanwhile, Nik Ahmad Anzalah Nik Zamri, 16, a student of Pondok Pasir Tumboh, said the experience of meeting the tactical team was beneficial in nurturing patriotism among youth. 'I've always wanted to join a tactical unit. Seeing them in person and chatting with them really fired up my spirit. I even asked about their uniforms, their functions, and when they're used,' he said.

2 suspects in high-speed chase ending at Saint Clair Walmart charged with attempted homicide

Two of the four suspects involved in the high-speed police chase that led to the Saint Clair Walmart being evacuated on Sunday have been charged with attempted homicide. State police at Carlisle have charged 18-year-old Kadence Ray Gooch and 17-year-old Jeremiah Dale Begley, both of Kingsport, Tennessee, in connection with the incident. Police said the four males were driving a stolen Toyota Tundra when one of the passengers reportedly pointed a gun at other drivers on Interstate 81 in Cumberland County. A motorist reported the incident to authorities, sparking a high-speed chase through three counties that led police to the Walmart in Saint Clair, where the suspects' truck reportedly broke down. Two of the suspects — Gooch and a male juvenile — were apprehended at the scene. Meanwhile, Begley and another male juvenile known as Chris are still being sought, police said. Gooch and Begley each face felony charges of attempted homicide and receiving stolen property, along with misdemeanor counts of reckless endangerment and simple assault. Gooch also faces felonies of fleeing an officer and carrying a loaded weapon, as well as several traffic-related summary counts. Begley faces a felony count of aggravated assault and misdemeanor charges of possession of a firearm by a minor. Police said the chase began at 12:40 p.m. when a woman driving north on I-81 near mile marker 57.1 in Silver Spring Twp., Cumberland County, reported seeing a passenger in a red pickup rolling a window down and pointing a firearm at her and other motorists. A Harrisburg state trooper later intercepted the truck near mile marker 77 in West Hanover Twp., Dauphin County, and initiated a traffic stop. The truck — a 2020 Toyota Tundra bearing Oklahoma registration LDK426 — initially stopped on the shoulder, but quickly fled and traveled at a high rate of speed, over 100 mph, police said. The truck led troopers off 1-81 to a location on the 7000 block of Manor Drive in West Hanover Twp., where passengers in the truck lowered the rear cab window and fired multiple rounds from pistols at troopers, striking a headlight on a patrol vehicle. Three shell casings were later recovered at the scene, police said. The truck soon reentered I-81 north and later exited at mile marker 124 near Frackville. The suspects traveled south on Route 61 toward the Walmart in Saint Clair, where their vehicle became disabled, police said. Police said the four subjects then fled the vehicle on foot. Two of them entered Walmart, while the other two fled up a nearby hill and were apprehended shortly thereafter. Four firearms were recovered along the final stretch of the pursuit. Police found an HK MP5 .22LR rifle, with five rounds, along with a backpack that was discarded within a half-mile of the 1-81 Frackville exit on Route 61. Along the same road, within a few hundred feet, police recovered a Sig Sauer P365 with an extended magazine, with one empty shell casing in the chamber and 23 live rounds in the magazine. The third gun recovered was a Glock 19 9mm, with one live round in the chamber and 12 rounds in the magazine, found in the bushes behind Dunkin' on Terry Rich Boulevard. The fourth firearm was a HK P30.40 cal with an empty magazine; police also found 56 live rounds and one broken round in the same area. Police said the two subjects who fled to Walmart shed numerous articles of clothing and shoplifted new clothes, putting them on before leaving the store through a rear door. Police identified Gooch as one of the subjects apprehended Sunday. The second was identified as a 17-year-old male with the initials B.T.W., also from Kingsport, Tennessee. When questioned by police, Gooch confirmed he was the driver of the Toyota for the entirety of the chase. He said he had handled firearms, but did not shoot them during the incident. He identified one of the escaped suspects as Begley and the other as a juvenile whom he knows as Chris. B.T.W told police that there were four firearms present in the vehicle. He claimed that Chris had stolen the guns and the vehicle in Tennessee. B.T.W. said that all four guns and a fanny pack containing extra ammunition were thrown out of the vehicle or disposed of along Route 61. He said that Chris and Begley were the ones who had shot at the trooper. B.T.W. told police that he did not use any of the firearms to shoot at people. He stated that, during their trip, all of the teens would wave the firearms randomly at other motorists but could not confirm who waved the firearm in Cumberland County, as they did not know what state they were in and thought they were in Massachusetts. B.T.W. also told police that the previous night the four of them went to Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, to break into vehicles, but only managed to find $15. They then decided to do the same in Florida, where there were more affluent residents, but changed their minds and decided to go to Connecticut instead, according to police. B.T.W. related that the previous night in Pigeon Forge, the teens were waving guns around at a Waffle House. Police said they made contact with the Toyota's registered owner, a resident of Knoxville, Tennessee. The truck's owner told troopers that he last saw his vehicle on Feb. 19 when he left it parked by his apartment. He then traveled to Oklahoma in a different vehicle and had not yet returned when the truck was allegedly stolen. He was unaware that the vehicle was no longer parked at his apartment and said he hadn't given anyone permission to drive it, therefore deeming the truck stolen, police said. Begley and Gooch were charged by Trooper Amy R. Kocher-Fry of the Carlisle station. Police are still seeking Begley and the other suspect known as Chris. Police describe Begley as a 5 foot 8 inch-tall white male, weighing 172 pounds, with brown/auburn hair, who was last wearing a Nirvana T-shirt when leaving the Walmart store. The second suspect was described as a white male with a darker complexion and heavier build, and was last seen wearing grey sweatpants and a black shirt. A new photo released Tuesday showed this suspect with long, wavy black hair, walking alongside Begley in the Nirvana T-shirt. Police are asking residents from Saint Clair to New Philadelphia to review any camera footage they might have that would capture the two suspects and to contact the Frackville station at 570-874-5300.
