Tanker with Russian oil for sanctions-hit Nayara Energy diverts to another Indian port, sources say
NEW DELHI: An oil tanker carrying Russian Urals crude has been diverted away from the EU-sanctioned Nayara Energy's Vadinar port in India to unload its cargo at the port of Mundra, according to shipping data and four industry sources on Thursday. Two tankers have also skipped loading refined products from Vadinar port since Friday when Nayara, 49%-owned by oil producer Rosneft, was among companies targeted in a fresh package of sanctions imposed by the European Union on Russia. The Omni tanker, carrying about 700,000 barrels of Urals, arrived at Vadinar port on July 18 and is now anchored off Mundra port, according to data from LSEG and Kpler and the sources on Thursday. Its destination was changed from Vadinar to Mundra on Wednesday, the data showed. It was not immediately clear why the cargo was not unloaded at Vadinar. Russia-backed Indian refiner condemns EU curbs The cargo has now been bought by a refinery operated by HPCL-Mittal Energy Ltd (HMEL), a joint venture between Hindustan Petroleum Corp and Mittal Energy Investments, the sources said. HMEL operates a 226,000 barrel-per-day refinery in northern Punjab state. HMEL and Nayara did not immediately respond to requests for comment. Nayara operates a 400,000-bpd refinery in western India.

HMEL secures three Indian patents including global-first tech for crude and naphtha co-transport
New Delhi: HPCL-Mittal Energy Limited (HMEL) has been granted three Indian patents , including two that introduce what the company claims to be the world's first design for pipeline pigs enabling the simultaneous transportation of naphtha in crude pipelines . With these additions, HMEL's total number of granted patents stands at nine, out of over 44 filed to date. The patented industrial pipeline cleaning pigs are engineered to allow the movement of two distinct hydrocarbons—such as crude oil and naphtha—within the same pipeline. According to the company, these are the first patented designs of their kind globally and are intended to enable dual hydrocarbon logistics in a single pipeline network. The third patent is for an apparatus that generates green oxy-hydrogen gas. HMEL said the device is designed to support process improvements within refinery operations and is aligned with the company's focus on clean technology deployment. As part of recognising in-house innovation, HMEL Managing Director and CEO Prabh Das presented the 'Inventor Award' to employee-innovators behind the patents. 'Securing these patents is a testament to the ingenuity, passion, and technical excellence of the HMEL team,' Das said. 'We remain committed to pushing the boundaries of innovation to enhance operational efficiency, safety, and environmental sustainability in the energy sector.' According to the company, its patent implementation rate stands at over 90 per cent. HMEL stated that R&D and innovation are central to its long-term strategy with a focus on applying patented technologies across core operations.
