Standard Two pupil suffers fractured nose in alleged school bullying incident in Kuala Terengganu
KUALA TERENGGANU, Aug 13 — A Standard Two pupil at a primary school here sustained a fractured orbital bone and broken nose after allegedly being assaulted by a group of schoolmates on July 30. The incident came to light when the boy returned home around 4 pm with bleeding and bruises on his face. According to his mother, the boy was attacked by several students who held his arms and punched him in the face until he fell. 'I brought him to a private clinic, where X-rays confirmed the injuries. He was then referred to Hospital Sultanah Nur Zahirah (HSNZ) in Kuala Terengganu,' she told reporters today. The boy, the second of three siblings, underwent surgery this morning to repair the nasal fracture. His mother said this was not the first time her son had been bullied. In June, he suffered an eye injury after being hit with a rock, but no police report was lodged at the time. However, following the latest, more serious incident, she has decided to take legal action. She added that the school met with the parents of the pupils involved on Monday to discuss the matter. Meanwhile, Kuala Terengganu police chief ACP Azli Mohd Noor confirmed receiving a police report. Preliminary investigations suggest the incident stemmed from teasing among the pupils. 'The case has been referred to the school management and the Kuala Terengganu District Education Office (PPD) for further action,' he said. — Bernama

Mother demands action after son's nose is broken in school bullying case
She stated that the school had held a meeting with the involved parents earlier in the week. A Year Two pupil at a school in the district suffered a broken nose and a fractured bone near his eye after he was allegedly assaulted by several classmates in an incident on July 30. KUALA TERENGGANU – A Year Two pupil from a local school was left with a broken nose and a fractured bone near his eye after allegedly being attacked by several classmates on July 30. The boy's mother, Rifka Amelia Bustomi Sofian, 37, said she realised something was wrong when her son returned home around 4pm with a bleeding nose and visible bruises on his face. Rifka displayed a copy of the police report lodged following the alleged bullying incident involving her son. She rushed him to a private clinic, where an X-ray later confirmed the injuries. 'My son had mentioned being bullied before, but I never thought it would escalate to this level,' Rifka said when met outside Hospital Sultanah Nur Zahirah (HSNZ) on Wednesday. She recounted that her son was attacked by a group of pupils: 'Some held his arms to stop him from escaping, while others pushed and punched him in the face until he fell.' The incident is believed to have occurred during a Kelas Al-Quran dan Fardhu Ain (KAFA) session after a class change. The boy, who had temporarily joined another class, was said to have accidentally damaged a desk cover, prompting several pupils to allegedly confront and attack him. The mother said she had already paid RM15 to replace the damaged item. Rifka also revealed that this was not the first time her son had suffered injuries at school. In June, he was allegedly struck in the eye by a stone thrown by another pupil. While she had not reported that earlier incident, she decided to pursue legal action this time due to the severity and repeated nature of the bullying. "I don't want any other pupil to go through what my son has experienced, especially since similar cases have reportedly happened at this school before," she added. She stated that the school had held a meeting with the involved parents earlier in the week. While some had apologised, Rifka was informed that no firm action had been taken against all the pupils involved. Her son later received treatment at HSNZ, where doctors realigned the fractured nose. His condition was still under observation at the time. Kuala Terengganu district police chief ACP Azli Mohd Noor confirmed that a police report had been lodged. 'Preliminary investigations suggest the incident may have been triggered by teasing between the students,' he said. He added that the case had been referred to school authorities and the District Education Office for further handling.

UPSI Bus Crash: Please Pray For My Daughter's Speedy Recovery
JERTIH, June 23 (Bernama) -- The mother of Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) student Nur Erika Alisya Mohd Zaidi, who was seriously injured in the tragic road accident on the East-West Highway in Gerik, Perak on June 9, has called on the public to pray for her daughter's speedy recovery. Noorzailizan Zakaria@ Ariffin, 41, said her daughter, who sustained injuries to both hands and her neck, could only lie in bed at the Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital (HSNZ) in Kuala Terengganu after being flown from the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital in Ipoh, Perak, via the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department helicopter on Saturday (June 21). "She's in stable condition and has shown positive development, but she needs help with her movements because she can't move her hands properly due to the many fractures sustained. "Nur Erika Alisya's right hand has had rods inserted into her shoulder, elbow and wrist as well as into the elbow and wrist of her left hand. She also has to wear a neck brace due to a fracture,' she said when contacted by Bernama today. The housewife, who lives in Kampung Alor Keladi in Hulu Besut near here, said that she and her 45-year-old husband, who works as an assistant handyman, currently take turns to care for the eldest of three siblings. Noorzailizan said that the 21-year-old Nur Erika Alisya is still traumatised and often recalls the tragic incident, which claimed the lives of 15 of her campus friends. "For example, during the ambulance ride from the Sultan Mahmud Airport in Kuala Nerus to HSNZ on Saturday, she was scared and cried throughout the journey. She also dislikes having the ceiling fan switched on at full speed as it causes her to recall the tragic incident,' she said. Noorzailizan hopes that her daughter, who is a Bachelor of Islamic Education student, will recover quickly so that she can pursue her ambition to become an ustazah (religious teacher). In the early morning incident on June 9, 15 UPSI students died when a bus specially rented from Jertih to return to the university's main campus in Tanjung Malim, Perak, overturned after being involved in an accident with a Perodua Alza on the highway.
