Haason Reddick Absent from Tampa Bay Buccaneers Voluntary OTAs ... So What?
Haason Reddick Absent from Tampa Bay Buccaneers Voluntary OTAs ... So What? originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Almost a full week ago, I wrote a piece about Tampa Bay Buccaneers' new linebacker Haason Reddick missing from voluntary OTAs. It seems to be driving Bucs fans crazy right now. Advertisement Well, just like I did then, I'm trying to talk you all off the ledge. Reddick is 30 years old. He's a veteran. And yes, in a perfect world, and in a perfect scenario, he's here. At OTAs. With his new teammates. But since when did any of you believe such a world exists? If you do, please reach out to me. I'd like to drink some of that Kool-Aid. The fact is, he's been around the league for a while. He's entering his ninth season in the NFL, and he knows how things work. He has his offseason workout routine perfected by now. Reddick made the Pro Bowl in 2022 and 2023, his final two seasons in Philly before being unceremoniously shipped off to the ... gross ... New York Jets. Advertisement We all know he sat out all the offseason and the first seven games of the year before finally joining the team. This isn't that. So stop thinking it is. Reddick wants to be here. He picked Tampa Bay. Oh, and by the way, these are VOLUNTARY OTAs. He hasn't missed anything that is mandatory. And he won't. If the team was truly interested in being there or worried about him missing, they would've put a clause in his contract about it. They didn't. And the team has yet to express any concern. Jason Licht is an excellent general manager. He's paying Reddick $14 million this season on a "prove-it" deal. Which is just what I think Reddick will do. Advertisement Give it time, climb off the ledge, and take in these words that Reddick spoke when he signed. Maybe they'll comfort you just a bit. "I'm excited. I'm excited to be here. I'm excited to be in front of the crowd. If anything, I can't wait to get in front of the Krewe," Reddick said. "I want to hear the cannon go off a lot this year. So, very excited. Hope the fans, hope the Krewe is excited as well. Looking forward to making this a great fit here." 'Nuff said. Ex-New York Jets Haason Reddick Stirring Drama For New Team
Ex-New York Jets Haason Reddick Stirring Drama For New Team originally appeared on Athlon Sports. For most NFL franchises, the saga between Haason Reddick and the New York Jets would have been the major storyline of the season. Unfortunately for the Jets, the 2024 season was full of sideshow attractions that, for some, led to Reddick's situation flying a bit under the radar. Advertisement 2024 was nothing short of disastrous for the Jets and Reddick. The Jets traded for Reddick from the Philadelphia Eagles, hoping to rework his contract and add his perennial double-digit sack contributions to their already mega-talented defense. In typical Jets fashion, it wasn't as easy as it sounds. Reddick held out for nearly half the season, finally getting a reworked deal midseason, and Reddick had the worst year of his NFL career. In 10 games and two starts, Reddick had just 14 tackles, only two for-loss, and one sack. Reddick had as many sacks as Bruce Hector, who played 118 defensive snaps for the Jets last season after getting called up from the practice squad for six games. Still, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers signed Reddick to a one-year, $14 million deal, hoping to revitalized the disgruntled Reddick. it didn't take long for red flags to appear for Reddick, who was notably absent from the Buccaneers' first open-media OTAs this week. Advertisement These practices are voluntary, but most teams have recorded full attendance by this point in the offseason. Head coach Todd Bowles didn't inspire confidence with his newest defensive addition, either 'I'm sure one of these days we'll see him,' Bowles said, perhaps passive-aggressively. Reddick's tenure with the Jets remained a footnote on the 2024 campaign from hell. The Jets traded for Reddick in April of 2024, and by August he had requested a trade from the Jets after missing the entirety of training camp. At the time, then-general manager Joe Douglas stated that the Jets would not trade Reddick, and that "he is expected to be here with his teammates, and that he will continue to be fined per the CBA if he does not report." Come October, the Jets permitted Reddick to seek a trade, and five days later the two sides agreed on a reworked contract, ending his holdout. Reddick then played the least-productive football of his career, but he did earn himself a contract with the Buccaneers, paying him $14 million per sack he recorded with the Jets. Haason Reddick skips first Buccaneers' OTA
After a 2024 season marred by an extended holdout following a trade from the Eagles to the Jets, defensive end Haason Reddick joined the Buccaneers as a free agent. Reddick wasn't present for the first OTA of the 2025 offseason program. Yes, it's voluntary. No, the Bucs didn't add a financial incentive to his one-year, $14 million contract aimed at getting him to show up. Still, there's a presumption that players who are serious about getting ready for the coming season will participate. Via coach Todd Bowles said this about Reddick's absence: 'I'm sure one of these days we'll see him.' Coaches aren't allowed to say or do anything to suggest voluntary workouts aren't voluntary. All coaches want all players to be there. For players who plan to work out anyway, it's always better to exercise at the team facility than somewhere else. Any injuries sustained while working out with the team are covered. Injuries happening away from the facility are not.

Bucs players with something to prove heading into the 2025 season
Bucs players with something to prove heading into the 2025 season Every new NFL season offers players and teams a new chance to prove themselves. While some will have an easier time doing this, some will have to do it while backpedaling. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are coming off a fourth straight NFC South division title, but they had another early playoff exit. They want to see an extended playoff run to the Super Bowl, and to do that, they will need a few players to step up who have disappeared at times, or for the 2025 season. Jason Licht has done a great job of building this roster up yearly since that initial Super Bowl run in 2020. Since then, the team has been competitive, but there have been no more Super Bowl appearances. Could this team be the one to change that streak? We have picked out three players with something to prove and given our reasons for making the cut. Rachaad White, Running Back The former Arizona State Sun Devil saw his role cut back in 2024 due to the arrival and emergence of Bucky Irving. Despite that, he is now set to be back in the rotation with a set role alongside Irving as the team looks to establish a thunder and lightning role that we have seen emerge around the league with various teams. The Bucs have the weapons in the passing game to be able to win games based solely on that, but playing with a lead is something they struggled with in 2024. Having a healthy dose of Rachaadf White back in the mix could help fix that and set him up nicely for what could be a big free agent cycle for him. Chris Braswell, Linebacker The former second-round draft pick enters his sophomore season with just 18 tackles to his credit after his rookie season. With the horizon coming on Lavonte David's career, and no replacement being drafted, the time is now for the Bucs to start grooming him as the heir apparent. If he can show more responsibility, more assignments, and more playmaking, he could be the future of the middle of the Bucs defense. If not, we will see the Bucs start looking for a replacement in free agency or the draft in 2026. Haason Reddick, Edge Rusher Not often would it make sense for a $14 million free agent signing to have something to prove, but Haason Reddick is a unique case. The veteran edge rusher is a former All-Pro coming off a year where he missed an entire offseason as he held out for a better contract with the Eagles, only to be dealt to the Jets before hitting the market in March. He comes to Tampa Bay with a chip on his shoulder as he is on a one-year prove-it deal. If he performs, he could see big money coming to him from either Tampa Bay or beyond. Without it, though, his NFL career may be coming to an end sooner than many once thought.
