Kapila in spate, mantap partially submerged
Following heavy discharge of water from Kabini dam due to incessant rains in its catchment areas, Kapila river is in spate, and the surroundings of the river bank in Nanjangud have been flooded.
The famous 16-pillared mantap (Hadinaru Kalu Mantap) at Snana Ghatta in the river has been partially submerged, and the river water is inching closer to the steps of Mudi Katte near the famous Srikanteshwaraswamy temple in the temple town.
Over 40,000 cusecs of water was discharged from the dam. As a precautionary measure, police have put barricades to prevent people from going near the swollen river, and the bathing ghat.
The Kabini dam level stood at 2,281.97 ft, as against the maximum of 2,284 ft. The inflow was 31,600 cusecs on Monday at 8 a.m. Flood warning was issued for the safety of the people living on the river banks.
A few days ago, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah had offered 'bagina' to the Kabini dam.
