Gaza victims: Alkhidmat Foundation dispatches 28th consignment of aid

LAHORE: Alkhidmat Foundation Pakistan has dispatched its 28th consignment of relief aid comprising 100 tons of essential supplies for the distressed families in Gaza facing an acute food crisis. The latest consignment, arranged in collaboration with the Government of Pakistan and the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), was flown from Islamabad via a special aircraft to Amman, Jordan, from where it will be transported to Gaza for distribution among displaced Palestinian families. Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, President of Alkhidmat Foundation Dr. Hafeez-ur-Rehman, and senior NDMA officials were present at the airport to oversee the departure of the cargo. Speaking on the occasion, Dar commended Alkhidmat's tireless efforts in Gaza and assured the Foundation of the government's full support in continuing its humanitarian operations. 'The people of Gaza are going through unimaginable suffering. We appreciate Alkhidmat's continued dedication and will extend all possible cooperation,' said the Deputy Prime Minister. According to Dr. Hafeez-ur-Rehman, the shipment includes 65 tons of canned food, 20 tons of powdered milk for children, 5 tons of biscuits, and 10 tons of essential medicines. He noted that Alkhidmat has been actively involved in Gaza's relief efforts for the past 22 months, dispatching thousands of tons of aid via multiple air and sea consignments. 'Out of the 28 consignments sent so far, 24 have been transported via air cargo and 4 by sea. The aid has included food, cooked meals, meat, medicines, tents, and other essential supplies,' said Dr. Rehman. Alkhidmat maintains a field office in Cairo, Egypt, to coordinate ongoing relief efforts. On-ground operations inside Gaza include the distribution of cooked meals, clean drinking water, and critical medical supplies. Two 'terrorists' killed in Kurram security operation

Listen to article In a successful operation carried out by security forces in the Teri Mangal area of Kurram District, two terrorists, namely Hafeez-ur-Rehman and Wajid Gul, were killed, security forces said on Tuesday. Both were wanted in connection with the shooting of schoolteachers and had bounties of Rs5 million each on their heads, according to security officials. Security sources said the two men were part of a group responsible for the killing of five teachers in Teri Mangal in 2023. During the exchange of fire, a local resident was injured with a gunshot wound to the leg. On May 2023, six school teachers were killed in attacks across Upper Kurram. Officials said it began with the drive-by shooting of a teacher, Muhammad Sharif, on Solozan Road. Read: Operation launched to bring peace to Kurram Shortly after, armed men stormed into Teri Mangal High School, entered the staffroom, and opened fire on teachers, who were supervising examinations. Six teachers and one staff member were killed on the spot. The deceased educators were identified as Mir Hussain, Jawad Hussain, Naveed Hussain, Jawad Ali, Muhammad Ali and Ali Hussain, all members of the Turi Bangash tribe. Security agencies confirmed that five suspects linked to the 2023 incident were already on the police and law enforcement's wanted list. Two of them were killed in today's operation while the search for the remaining three fugitives continues. The Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa government had announced bounties for Hafeez-ur-Rehman, Wajid Gul and three others in July 2024. Security forces said further measures are being taken to maintain peace in the area and that operations will continue until the complete elimination of terrorists. Recent violence in the region In a separate incident last week, a roadside bomb blast in the Sharamkhel area of Pewar, also in Upper Kurram, killed four people and injured four others, police said. According to District Police Officer Malik Habib, the explosion occurred as the victims were heading to a nearby hill to collect firewood. Two horses were also killed in the blast. The deceased were identified as Nawab Ali, Amir Hussain, Hidayat Hussain and Manzar Ali. Three of the injured were later shifted to Peshawar for specialised care, according to Parachinar DHQ Hospital officials. Violence in Kurram has surged in recent months. In December, more than 100 people were killed in tribal clashes that left parts of the region isolated for weeks.

PTA chairman reconciles with ANP president

Chairman of the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), Major General (retd) Hafeez-ur-Rehman, visited the Bacha Khan Markaz to mend ties with the Awami National Party (ANP) President, Aimal Wali Khan, following a recent dispute. The meeting ended on a positive note, with both leaders embracing and reconciling their differences. The two had a disagreement during a session of the National Assembly's Standing Committee. In a gesture of goodwill and in accordance with Pashtun traditions, the PTA chairman arrived at Bacha Khan Markaz accompanied by a Jirga. Aimal Wali Khan warmly received the delegation and accepted their apology. Speaking on the occasion, Rehman said the misunderstanding that occurred was unintentional and regrettable. "I had expressed my regret at the time and have come here again to clear the air. I hold Senator Aimal Wali Khan and his family in the highest esteem," he stated.
