UTAS Nizwa concludes second debate championship

NIZWA: The University of Technology and Applied Sciences in Nizwa successfully concluded its second debate championship, which featured competitive intellectual exchanges among teams from various university branches. The Suhar branch team secured first place, followed by the Ibri branch team in second place, after a closely contested final round that demonstrated exceptional public speaking and critical thinking skills. The championship, held over three days, included preliminary rounds, a panel discussion in Al Aqar neighbourhood on bilingual debates and critical thinking, and exhibition debates in English. Dr Hafez bin Ahmed Ambusaidi, Deputy Assistant President for Electronic Systems and Student Services at Nizwa Branch, emphasised that the competition has enhanced students' analytical skills and fostered a culture of meaningful dialogue within the academic community. The event concluded with an awards ceremony, where top speakers in Arabic and English were recognised: Best Arabic Speaker: Horiya bint Rashid al Saqriyah (Al Musannah branch), Second Place Arabic Speaker: Al Baraa bin Hilal al Maqrashi (Nizwa branch), Best English Speaker: Nasaem bint Qasim al Wahaibiyah (Ibra branch), Second Place English Speaker: Mustafa Naaman Sheikh (Salalah branch). The championship is part of the university's broader mission to cultivate intellectual engagement and prepare students for active participation in academic and professional discourse. – ONA
