"Was Scared, Shivering": IndiGo Flier Slapped During Panic Attack
Guwahati: The man who was slapped by a co-passenger after a mid-air panic attack on an IndiGo flight has said that he was assaulted when the accused saw that he was "scared". Hussain Ahmed Majumdar, 32, a resident of Assam's Cachar, suffered a panic attack when he was travelling from Mumbai to Silchar via Kolkata on Thursday. A video clip of the incident that has gone viral shows Hafijul Rahaman suddenly slapping Mr Majumdar, who was sitting on the aisle seat. He was detained upon landing in Kolkata and handed over to the police. He was later released. "I boarded the flight at 2 AM. I was scared, and my body was shivering from fear, so I sat next to a passenger. I asked his name, and he said Hafijul Rahaman. I understood that he is Muslim and gave my 'salam'. When he saw me, I was nervous, and he lost his control and slapped me 3-4 times," Mr Majumdar, who works at a hotel in Mumbai, told reporters. He also said he didn't "misbehave" with the co-flier. "The cabin crew intervened and asked him why he slapped me. The cabin crew offered me water and tried to calm me down," he said. After they deboarded in Kolkata, Mr Majumdar and the accused were taken to a police station for questioning. Mr Majumdar said he missed his flight to Silchar as he was later taken to a hospital for a check-up. "Due to the slapping, there is pain on my head and I find it difficult to get up easily," Mr Majumdar said. After the disturbing incident, he was found at a railway station in Assam's Barpeta, about 400 kilometres from Silchar, on Saturday, a day after his family filed a missing complaint with the police.

IndiGo bars man who hit a co-passenger on plane flying from Mumbai to Kolkata from its flights
NEW DELHI: IndiGo has barred a passenger who had assaulted a co-flyer on an aircraft headed from Mumbai to Kolkata Friday, from all its flights indefinitely. "Following due diligence, the incident involving an unruly customer has been formally reported to the relevant authorities for necessary action. In line with our commitment to discourage such unruly behaviour onboard flights, the individual has been suspended from flying on any IndiGo flights, in accordance with regulatory provisions," IndiGo said Saturday. Now it is upto other Indian airlines whether they also decide on doing the same with the accused till the due legal process of putting him on the national no fly list is taken. Before this provision for unruly flyers was in place, state-owned Air India, under its then CMD Ashwani Lohani had about a decade back had barred at least two people, including an MP, from its flights. At that time, other airlines had also decided to do the same for these people. The no fly list in India was enacted after these instances. IndiGo had initiated legal action against the unruly flyer on Saturday itself after the aircraft landed in Kolkata. So apart from being put on no fly list, there is likely to be other action too against the assaulter. Passenger declared unruly by the cabin crew of Indigo and handed over to Police. Legal action has been initiated. The victim had suffered a panic attack when the aircraft was taxiing in Mumbai. He started sobbing and walking in the aisle, requesting to be allowed to alight from the plane. At this time a passenger is seen slapping this person as he was passing by his seat in videos of the assault that went viral on social media. All other passengers and airline crew immediately came to the victim's support. 'He was comforted and seated. The aircraft then took off for its destination and had an uneventful flight,' said people in the know. "At IndiGo, the safety and well-being of our customers and crew remain our foremost priority. We remain committed to fostering a safe, respectful, and comfortable environment for all onboard," IndiGo said on X Saturday while announcing its decision to put the assaulter on its no fly list.
