Constitution exists but it is not followed, says JI chief

LAHORE: Chief of Jamaat-e-Islami Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman has said that a cruel and exploitative system continues to dominate Pakistan where the constitution exists but not implemented. 'Even judges today are dissatisfied with the justice system. While the wealthy can buy justice, the poor are left to suffer for generations in the courts,' he said. Addressing participants of the central training workshop at Mansoora on Saturday, he stressed that the Jamaat-e-Islami is striving to provide justice to the people at the grassroots level. 'Feudal landlords exploit the farmers, capitalists and contractors feed off the sweat of labourers, and the sugar mill mafia loots the people while sitting in the government itself,' he said. 'This exploitative rule must end and the public must stand with Jamaat-e-Islami to bring about this change.' Rehman emphasized that the 'Haq Do Balochistan Ko' movement is not a cause of a single ethnic group but a struggle for the rights of the entire province. 'Every citizen deserves equal rights over their resources, their land, and their dignity.' He announced that Jamaat-e-Islami is forming people's committees in every village, town, neighbourhood, and union council across the country. These committees aim to fight injustice and lawlessness, while also tackling drug abuse, especially among youth. 'They will lead community-driven efforts to reform the education system, rehabilitate crumbling public school buildings, and address municipal and civic problems including the care and maintenance of mosques,' he added. The JI chief urged the youth to engage not only in education and sports but also in healthy competition for moral and social development. 'We need youth who lead their communities in good deeds,' he stated. Criticizing Pakistan's deepening debt and subservience to the IMF, he said, 'Those who have chained the country to foreign loans are looting the nation. Big landlords and industrialists refuse to pay taxes while expanding their private businesses by usurping public rights. Meanwhile, the burden is placed entirely on the poor, as the ruling elite continues to raise their salaries and perks.' He said that business and industry is essential for job creation, expanding private empires through land grabbing is an unforgivable crime. 'Jamaat-e-Islami will continue to adopt every legal and democratic path to secure the rights of the working class, small farmers, and oppressed citizens.' Copyright Business Recorder, 2025

Discos: JI chief condemns overbilling practices

LAHORE: Chief of Jamaat-e-Islami Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman, has strongly condemned the overbilling practices of power distribution companies, following the revelations in a recent audit report by the Auditor General of Pakistan. The report highlights over Rs 244 billion worth of unjustified billing imposed on the public under the guise of covering line losses and mismanagement. Commenting on the findings, Rehman said 'It is utterly shameful that the burden of Rs 244 billion is being placed on the public to cover up for inefficiencies and line losses. This is not just negligence; it is economic exploitation. The government must immediately return this amount to the people.' In a statement shared on social media platform X, the JI chief declared over billing as 'a grave form of corruption and administrative failure,' stressing that the citizens are being punished for the incompetence and mis governance of ruling authorities and related institutions. The Auditor General's report identified IESCO, LESCO, MEPCO, SEPCO, HESCO, PESCO, QESCO, and TESCO as the key culprits involved in the over billing. While the companies have reportedly claimed to have returned the amount, the audit report clarified that they failed to provide any verifiable evidence supporting their claims. Rehman reiterated his demand for full transparency and accountability, urging the government to take immediate corrective action and deliver justice to the overburdened consumers. JI to stage sit-ins against ‘sugar mafia' today

LAHORE: Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Chief Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman has announced that the party will stage protest sit-ins across Islamabad and all divisional headquarters today (Sunday) against the exploitative 'sugar mafia' and hike in electricity, gas, and petrol prices. He also declared the launch of 'Give Rights to Balochistan' long march from Quetta on July 25 which will eventually head toward Islamabad. Addressing a press conference in Islamabad on Saturday, Rehman criticized the government's anti-people economic policies and the main opposition parties' passivity. 'When it comes to their personal gains, all factions unite and approve 300 percent raises in their own salaries.' He said the government deceived the people with false claims like a Rs. 7.41 per unit reduction in electricity rates which never materialized. The petrol prices, he added, continue to rise every 15 days despite declining global rates. 'The imposition of the slab system and continued hikes in electricity and gas prices are nothing short of fraud against the public. We demand the end of the slab system and the removal of unjust taxes from electricity bills,' he stated. Rehman lashed out at the sugar mafia, noting that 90 percent of the country's 89 sugar mills are controlled by the ruling parties and influential figures. 'Dealerships are handed to unregistered agents who are protected by every government. Sugar prices have surged from Rs. 140 to Rs. 200 per kg, imposing a heavy burden on the people,' he said. He revealed that gas wells were deliberately shut down on instructions from the Petroleum Division, resulting in a $1.5 billion loss to the national economy. He said the past governments entered RLNG agreements against national interests. The JI chief stressed the need for aggressive diplomatic efforts on Kashmir, referencing the July 19, 1947 resolution passed at the residence of Sardar Ibrahim Khan for accession to Pakistan. 'Today, Kashmiris worldwide are observing 'Youm-e-Ilhaq-e-Pakistan'. Pakistan must push forward a bold Kashmir policy. Any international mediation that undermines the wishes of the Kashmiri people is unacceptable,' he emphasized. Hafiz Rehman reiterated that India and the US are behind the unrest in Balochistan. He emphasised empowering local populations and announced that grand jirgas would soon be held in both Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan to address regional grievances. Regarding the upcoming 'Balochistan Rights March', he warned the government against obstructing it: 'If the government tries to stop this peaceful democratic movement, it will bear responsibility for the consequences.' The JI leader also raised concerns about lawlessness in Sindh's riverine areas, pointing to the unhindered flow of weapons, the abduction of minority traders, and the PPP's failure to maintain law and order. Calling on the youth to join Jamaat-e-Islami, he remarked that the ruling elite and opposition are united only in safeguarding their own interests, showing indifference to the struggles of ordinary citizens. Criticizing the recent decision on reserved seats, he termed it a murder of justice, stating that even the affected parties failed to raise their voices and instead became part of the deal. JI for early completion of IP gas pipeline project

LAHORE: Chief of Jamaat-e-Islami Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman has demanded of the government to immediately resume work on the Iran-Pakistan gas pipeline project and ensure its completion without further delay. Addressing a press conference at Mansoora on Thursday, he highlighted the shifting regional dynamics in the wake of the Iran-Israel war. He noted that India refrained from supporting Tehran, while Pakistan maintained a principled position. 'The time has come for Pakistan, Iran, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, and Türkiye to form a regional defense alliance,' he urged, adding that this bloc should also include China and Russia to counter unilateral US hegemony and establish a powerful global front. The JI leader called for investigations into massive financial irregularities uncovered in Punjab government's audit reports and criticized the controversial cycle of sugar exports followed by imports. He said Sharif family is launching schemes only for personal publicity at the expense of public tax money. 'The uncle-niece duo continues to deceive the nation in the name of progress,' he said. Rehman demanded reduction in the interest rate this year, with complete elimination next year. He urged that electricity tariffs be rationalized based on actual production costs and called for transparency regarding progress on dismantling exploitative IPP agreements. He stressed that no duties should be imposed on solar panels. 'The rulers have ruined the agricultural sector, and the Punjab government bears the biggest responsibility. While small farmers are suffering, the elite enjoy unjustified privileges,' he stated. He demanded that taxes be lifted from salaried individuals and imposed on feudal. He said the education sector is in shambles, with 29.2 million children out of school, despite tall claims of an education emergency by the Prime Minister. Rehman praised Iran for its firm resistance against Israeli and American aggression and lauded the unity of the Iranian people in defending their sovereignty. 'Despite full U.S. backing, Hamas and Iran have exposed and challenged Israeli power. Like the Iranians, the Pakistanis too have united in the face of external threats,' he said. He recalled how Pakistan humbled India and earned global recognition. 'Now our rulers must abandon the fear of America and start work on IP Gas Project.' He expressed deep regret that neither the government nor opposition parties in Pakistan speak out against the U.S. He strongly condemned the government's recommendation of Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize, calling it a betrayal of national dignity. 'This nomination must be withdrawn immediately,' he asserted. Reaffirming JI's position on Kashmir, he said, 'There can be no talks with India - with or without Trump's mediation - without the right to self-determination for Kashmiris.'
