Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs), Datuk Dr Mohd Na'im Mokhtar, reminded the pilgrims to maintain discipline, follow TH guidelines and respect the laws of Saudi Arabia to ensure their safety and the smooth performance of their religious duties. 'Pilgrims must stay focused on their worship and avoid engaging in any activities that violate the host country's regulations,' he said. He also urged pilgrims to take care of their health and hygiene, especially under the hot climate and in large gatherings of Muslims from around the world. 'Such actions pose serious risks, including fines, deportation, and being blacklisted from entering Saudi Arabia for a certain period,' he warned. Moh Na'im added that pilgrims also serve as agents of information to their families and communities by raising awareness on the importance of adhering to the rules of Hajj. Shahelmey Yahya; Sabah Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, Datuk Dr. Mohd Arifin Mohd Arif; and Sabah and Sarawak Regional Director of Tabung Haji, Datuk Nurlaila Said. * Follow us on Instagram and join our Telegram and/or WhatsApp channel(s) for the latest news you don't want to miss. * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news? Sabah CM Hajiji reassures unity within GRS amid tensions over Usno's demands

KOTA KINABALU, May 8 — Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Haji Hajiji Haji Noor said all is well within the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) family. The Chief Minister had a high-tea meeting with all seven presidents of the GRS components at Sri Gaya here on Thursday, which he described as cordial. 'All presidents had pledged to ensure GRS's victory in the coming elections. 'I appreciate their views and opinions. They are all matured political leaders and understood the importance of GRS as a united front going into the elections,' he said. Hajiji who is GRS chairman and Gagasan Rakyat president, spent almost three hours with Parti Bersatu Sabah Acting President Datuk Seri Panglima Dr Joachim Gunsalam, Star President Datuk Seri Panglima Dr Jeffrey Kitingan, Usno President Tan Sri Pandikar Amin, Parti Cinta Sabah President Tan Sri Anifah Aman, Sabah Progressive Party President Datuk Seri Panglima Yong Teck Lee, Liberal Democratic Party President Datuk Chin Su Phin and Parti Harapan Rakyat Sabah President Tan Sri Liew Yun Fah. Also present was Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah (Gagasan Rakyat) Deputy President Datuk Seri Panglima Masidi Manjun. The meeting follows the warning by Pandikar that Usno may break away from the GRS coalition and contest the upcoming state election independently if the party continues to be sidelined. Pandikar recently expressed frustration over what he called a dismissive attitude from some GRS leaders, who have questioned Usno's right to demand seats despite its grassroots efforts. Jeffrey said Pandikar's remarks on Usno's marginalisation within GRS, the lack of internal consultation and the need to restore Sabah-based leadership are valid and consistent with the original objectives of GRS. He also renewed his long-standing call for a unity meeting involving not just GRS components, but all Sabah-based parties. Yong also reponded by advising his coalition allies to stay humble, saying certain junior leaders in Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah should be honest with themselves about their party's strength after asking Usno to leave GRS if they feel been belittled. — The Borneo Post

Sabah's GDP growth promising

Hajiji Haji Noor Facebook picture. KOTA KINABALU: With Sabah's gross domestic product (GDP) showing an increase in growth in 2024, Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor has called for a paradigm shift to ensure that all development plans are implemented successfully. Hajiji said the GDP growth of RM83.2bil last year against the RM82.1bil recorded in 2023 reflected a momentum of continuous improvement and positive development in Sabah. He said it was in line with the national GDP, which is expected to increase by 2.5% through the Madani Economy Framework that saw the restructuring of Malaysia's economy under the national Budget 2025. 'We must change our attitude to not just focus on the negatives without evaluating or giving credit to the successes or contributions made to the state,' Hajiji said when chairing the State Development Action Council meeting at Menara Kinabalu here yesterday. 'If we continue to contribute our energy positively through close cooperation from various quarters in the state, it is not impossible to successfully implement our Hala Tuju Sabah Maju Jaya ( Hala Tuju SMJ) aspirations.' He also urged the relevant agencies to ensure all initiatives and programmes under the 12th Malaysia Plan and the development blueprint are implemented to spur economic growth and uplift the people's livelihood. Under the 13th Malaysia Plan, the Chief Minister revealed the state government has formulated a State Strategic Development Hala Tuju as a proactive step to spur Sabah's economy and development from 2026 to 2030. 'It is also an early framework that takes into consideration the policy, blueprint and current development plan. Various initiatives will be initiated encompassing the Blue Economy initiative and each state development agenda under the 13MP,' he said. Despite the various successes through the Hala Tuju SMJ initiatives and positive figures from all the released data to date, Hajiji said the state government must not become complacent. 'We must continue to work hard and be more proactive. All department and district-level heads must go down to the ground more frequently to monitor ongoing projects. 'This is important to ensure that all programmes are done well and thoroughly,' he said, adding that this year, 1,265 projects must be completed in Sabah. 'All the implementing agencies must constantly monitor these projects' progress and ensure they are completed according to schedule,' he said. According to him, Sabah is among the highest recipients of the national Budget, with RM6.7bil allocated by the Federal Government this year. 'This proves that the voices of the people and leaders of Sabah are heard at the federal level. It also demonstrates that we are very serious and will strive to boost the state's development.'
