MS Dhoni gives first reaction after being inducted into ICC Hall of Fame: ‘Cricketers across generations…'
Legendary India cricketer MS Dhoni gave his first reaction after being formally inducted into the ICC Hall of Fame. The former India captain was among seven iconic players added to the ICC Hall of Fame at a glittering ceremony held at the iconic Abbey Road Studios in London. Apart from Dhoni, the other male cricketers to get the honour were South Africa's Hashim Amla, former Australia opener Matthew Hayden, former South Africa captain Graeme Smith, and New Zealand great Daniel Vettori. Pakistan's Sana Mir and former England wicketkeeper-batter Sarah Taylor were the two women inductees who took the total Hall of Famers to 122. The seven distinguished cricketers were voted by the ICC Hall of Famers, senior executives and members of the media and inducted during 'A Day with the Legends' event. Dhoni, who has more than 17000 international runs and is the only captain to win all three ICC white-ball tournaments, felt honoured as the ICC recognised the contributions of the cricketers through its Hall of Fame programme, launched in 2009. "It is an honour to be named in the ICC Hall of Fame, which recognises the contributions of cricketers across generations and from all over the world. To have your name remembered alongside such all-time greats is a wonderful feeling. It is something that I will cherish forever," he said. Dhoni has played against all five men's Hall of Fame inductees and has even shared the dressing room with Hayden a the Chennai Super Kings in the IPL. Dhoni became the 11th Indian cricketer to be inducted into the ICC Hall of Fame. Before him, Sunil Gavaskar, Bishan Singh Bedi, Kapil Dev, Anil Kumble, Rahul Dravid, Sachin Tendulkar, Vinoo Mankad, Dian Edulji, Virender Sehwag, Neetu David were bestowed with the honour. 4,876 runs at 38.08 in 90 Tests with 256 catches and 38 stumpings 10,773 runs at 50.57 in 350 ODIs with 321 catches and 123 stumpings 1,617 runs at 37.60 in 98 T20Is with 57 catches and 34 stumpings Under Dhoni's leadership, India rose to take the top prize in all formats: winning the inaugural ICC Men's T20 World Cup in 2007, leading the Test rankings for 18 months from December 2009, and finally winning the 50-over World Cup in 2011, when he struck the winning six in the final against Sri Lanka. No one has captained his country in more international matches, and he was named in the ICC's ODI and T20I Teams of the Decade at the end of 2019. 'Through the ICC Hall of Fame, we pay tribute to the finest players the game has seen, individuals whose remarkable careers have shaped cricket's legacy and inspired generations," said ICC chairman Jay Shah. The ICC Hall of Fame pays tribute to the extraordinary achievements of cricket legends who have shaped the sport's rich and vibrant history, with players inducted only five years after they have played their last international match. The ICC Hall of Fame was launched in January 2009 as part of the ICC's centenary celebrations. The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame has a Mariah Carey problem
The resume speaks for itself — 19 No. 1 hits, a vocal range for the ages, a blueprint for the modern pop diva and that holiday song that won't go away. Why it matters: Mariah Carey is the latest female artist to be surprisingly snubbed by the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, an institution that has struggled to honor women to the same extent it's honored men. The big picture: The Rock Hall has inducted nearly 400 artists since its inception in 1986, including about 80 women as individual artists or members of female-fronted groups. The museum will add Cyndi Lauper, Meg White (of The White Stripes), Salt-N-Pepa and Carol Kaye to that list as part of the class of 2025. How it works: To be eligible, an artist had to release their first official recording at least 25 years before induction. Each year, a committee of music industry bigwigs creates a ballot. Then a voting pool of more than 1,000 music historians, journalists and previous inductees selects the honorees. 💭 Troy's thought bubble: This is all, of course, subjective. However, I can't see how Carey isn't more deserving than 2025 inductees like Chubby Checker, The White Stripes or Bad Company. One argument against Carey would come from rock purists who think the Hall should exclusively honor guitar-driven music. But that didn't stop Outkast from earning induction this year. What's next: Carey has been eligible since 2016. History suggests she will be inducted, but will likely wait longer than her male counterparts. By the numbers: Of the 56 acts that have been first-ballot Hall of Famers only six have included women. Believe it or not, acts like Aretha Franklin, Joni Mitchell, Ruth Brown, The Supremes, Fleetwood Mac, Joan Jett and Janet Jackson needed multiple nominations to earn induction.

Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame: Carmelo Anthony, Dwight Howard, Sue Bird and more named to Class of 2025
The Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame is welcoming a new slate of honorees, with the organization announcing its Class of 2025. The full list of 2025 selections was announced on Saturday, ahead of the men's Final Four. The list is highlighted by a quartet of NBA and WNBA stars. Carmelo Anthony, a 10-time NBA All-Star, and Dwight Howard, a three-time Defensive Player of the Year, were both named to the Class of 2025 as first-time nominees. WNBA legends Sue Bird and Maya Moore were also named as first-ballot Hall of Famers, with Moore's Minnesota Lynx teammate, Sylvia Fowles — a two-time WNBA champion and the 2017 WNBA MVP — also earning a place in the Hall. Other members of the Class of 2025 include referee Danny Crawford, current Chicago Bulls coach Billy Donovan and Miami Heat owner Micky Arison, who all receive the honor after their first nominations. Donovan was eligible for the Hall of Fame due to his long career, as coaches must have at least 25 years of experience to be nominated. In addition to a decade of NBA coaching experience, Donovan started his coaching career in college basketball in the 1990s and spent nearly two decades as Florida's head coach, winning back-to-back national titles. Arison, who has owned the Heat since 1995, was elected into the Hall in the contributor category, a catch-all category that includes former NBA commissioners, sports executives and others who have made 'significant contributions' to the game of basketball. The final honoree is the 2008 U.S. Olympic men's team, the Mike Krzyzewski-led "Redeem Team" that won gold after a disappointing bronze medal finish at the 2004 Olympics. (Anthony and Howard were both on that squad, meaning that they will be essentially honored by the Hall twice this year.) The team is the only member of the Class of 2025 that is not a first-ballot selection. Full list of the Class of 2025: Carmelo Anthony* Dwight Howard* Sue Bird* Maya Moore* Sylvia Fowles* Danny Crawford* Billy Donovan* Micky Arison* 2008 U.S. Olympic men's team * denotes first-ballot Hall of Fame selection
