Oman U20 team begins training under coach Hamed

MUSCAT, AUG 15 The Oman Under-20 team commenced their first training session on Tuesday night at Seeb Stadium under the technical guidance of the newly appointed head coach, Hamed al Azani, who is also in charge in the coaching staff of the national senior team as assistant coach. Al Azani is supported with local experienced coaching staff comprised of Badar al Maamari and Mansoor al Jabri as assistant coaches while Mohammed al Zedi as goalkeeping coach and Nasser al Abri as fitness coach. The opening warm-up session commenced with a welcoming address from coach Al Azani who instructed the players to give their utmost performance during the camp. Following the end of the domestic football season and the players' return to the team after a long absence, the session placed significant emphasis on stretching, fitness work and regaining peak physical condition. The coaching team focused on raising the players' fitness levels, rebuilding their technical and tactical abilities; and fostering harmony and understanding among squad members. The purpose of the camp is to gear up the players for the inaugural Under-20 Gulf Cup, scheduled to be held in Saudi Arabia from August 28 to September 10, 2025. The domestic training camp, running until next Saturday (August 23), marked the team's return to action after a long absence from competitive football. The scheduled gathering is a crucial step in Oman's preparations for the Gulf Cup, where they will compete in Group B alongside Iraq, Bahrain and Egypt (guest team). Oman's campaign will begin with a match against Egypt on August 29, Bahrain on September 1 and Iraq on September 4. Group A features Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait and Yemen. Coach Al Azani opted a 28-player squad, mainly comprising players born in 2007 and 2008 who featured in the AFC U-17 Asian Cup in Saudi Arabia earlier this year under former coach Anwar al Habsi. This decision aims to maintain squad harmony and continuity as part of long-term preparations for the U20 Asian Championship qualifiers in 2026. This training phase also represents Oman's first youth-level appearance since the U20 Asian Cup qualifiers last September. The current camp will offer the coaching team an opportunity to evaluate individual talents, enhance team cohesion and instil the tactical discipline required for regional and continental challenges ahead. Oman U20 Squad: Riyadh al Tarshi, Hussam al Naabi, Al Waleed al Abdulsalam, Firas al Saadi, Ahmed al Omrani, Osama al Maamari, Amed al Rawahi, Al Yazen al Balushi, Mohammed al Mashakheyi, Yazen al Khaldi, Abdulaziz al Balushi, Ibrahim al Tamimi, Ali al Owaini, Al Hassan al Qasmi, Fahad al Mashakehyi, Al Waleed al Buraidi, Ibrahim al Shamsi, Ziyad al Matani, Abdullah al Wahabi, Ali al Alawi, Mohammed Ghanim, Momen al Souli, Fahad Bait Rabee, AbdulRahman al Busaidy, Sulieman al Kharousi, Tamim al Buraii, Muzun al Hinai and Al Waleed al Rashdi.
