Tornado devastates STL, leaving residents displaced
ST. LOUIS – Fire crews, SWAT, EMS and special operations are at the scene following a devastating storm that tore through north St. Louis—collapsing buildings, knocking out power and leaving families homeless. Owner Torlisa Nash was inside preparing for a wedding reception when the tornado hit. Within seconds, the roof was gone and the building started to cave in. 'The roof flew off the whole building and the walls came crashing in to where we were. I end up trapped behind a door because I was trying to push the door closed with my hands but the wind was too powerful for me to do so. I was using my body to brace me from being smashed between the walls and the doors,' Nash said. Close Thanks for signing up! Watch for us in your inbox. Subscribe Now Torlisa told FOX 2 she had just renewed her lease and is heartbroken over the loss but thankful the wedding party had not yet arrived—fearing it could have ended in tragedy. On Academy and Page, a massive tree fell through a two-story apartment building, ripping through living rooms on both floors and pulling power lines down, leaving live wires hanging near the only exit. In the Hamilton Heights neighborhood, several homes on Hammett Place are destroyed—roofs torn off, windows shattered and power outages stretching across multiple blocks. Many residents are now displaced, emotional and overwhelmed—some saying they've never witnessed destruction like this in their lifetime. A curfew is in effect from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. as search and recovery efforts continue. Emergency responders remain on the ground as the community begins the difficult process of rebuilding. 2-alarm fire in upper Manhattan building injures 10, though not badly
A total of ten people — half of them firefighters — were injured, though not badly, in a fire in a residential apartment building in upper Manhattan Saturday morning, the FDNY said. More than 106 firefighters and EMS personnel, in a total of 25 vehicles, responded around 8:30 a.m. to the scene of the two-alarm blaze at 568 W. 149th St. in Hamilton Heights. According to an FDNY spokesperson, the blaze broke out on the building's third and fourth floors Five civilians and five firefighters suffered minor injuries. The civilians all refused medical attention at the scene while the firefighters were all transported to local hospitals. The flames were brought under control by around 9:20 a.m. FDNY fire marshals are investigating the cause of the fire. Saturday morning, a Department of Buildings partial-vacate order was visible pasted on the place's front door — specifically applying to one second-floor apartment. The notice stated that in the apartment's rear, there were 'sloping and sagging' floors, with a roughly 2-inch gap between the molding and floor. These 'potentially hazardous conditions' had rendered the apartment 'unsafe to occupy,' the order said.

Builder liable for giving possession without occupancy certificate: NCDRC
The National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (NCDRC) has held Faridabad-based Hamilton Heights liable for deficiency in service and unfair trade practice for handing over possession of a flat without securing the occupancy certificate (OC). The case underscores the need for buyers to ensure the OC is obtained before taking possession. What is an occupancy certificate?
