Will Smith Addresses Chris Rock Oscars Slap on New Album: ‘My S— Still Hot Even Though I Won't Get Nominated'

Will Smith wastes no time addressing his Chris Rock Oscars slap on new album 'Based on a True Story,' which released on Friday. In fact, the project's first track, 'Int. Barbershop — Day,' opens with the phrase: 'Will Smith is canceled.' The song, which features Smith's Fresh Prince collaborator DJ Jazzy Jeff and B. Simone, sees differently-pitched voices trade rumors and opinions about the actor and rapper in a freestyle manner. 'Who the f**k Will Smith think he is?' one voice asks, to which another replies: 'I ain't never going to forgive him for that sh*t he did.' The comedian was presenting when he made a joke about Smith's wife, Jada Pinkett Smith. Will Smith reacted by walking up on stage and slapping Rock across the face. When the actor returned to his seat, he shouted: 'Keep my wife's name out of your f**king mouth!' Later on in the show, Smith returned to the stage to accept the Oscar for best actor for his performance in 'King Richard.' 'Int. Barbershop — Day' tackles the Oscars controversy more directly with the lyrics: 'I heard he won the Oscar but he had to give it back/ And you know they only made him do that sh*t because he's Black.' However, Smith did not have to return his Oscar — the Academy instead banned him from attending any event related to the organization for 10 years. Smith also resigned his Academy membership and issued an apology, saying that he was 'deeply remorseful' for his actions. The song later references Smith's infamous response to Rock's joke with the line: 'Him and Jada both crazy girl, what you talkin' bout?/ You better keep his wife's name out of your mouth.' Second track 'You Lookin' for Me?' also hints at the scandal. Smith raps: 'Took a lot, I'm back on top/ Y'all gon' have to get acclimated/ Won't stop, my shit still hot/ Even though I won't get nominated.' Smith's ban from Academy events does not affect his eligibility for future Oscar nominations, though it does seem unlikely. 'Based on a True Story' marks Smith's first full-length solo music project in 20 years, with his last release being 2005's 'Lost and Found.' However, it is not the actor and rapper's first major project since the slap. Months later, Smith navigated a limited promotional cycle for his next prestige picture, Apple's historical drama 'Emancipation.' Last summer, he co-starred with Martin Lawrence in 'Bad Boys: Ride or Die,' the fourth entry in Sony's buddy cop franchise was a box office hit, earning more than $400 million worldwide. After Smith began his run starring on the NBC sitcom The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air in 1990, the duo had their biggest hit with 'Summertime,' which reach No. 4 on the Billboard Hot 100. After three more studio sets with DJ Jazzy Jeff, Smith went solo and scored with the smash debut set Big Willie Style, which arrived a year-plus after Independence Day made him a movie star. He also hit No. 1 with the 'Wild Wild West,' the title track from his 1999 movie, and went on to release the albums Willennium in 1999 and Born to Reign in 2002. Will Smith says Zendaya is 'being approached' for possible 'Hancock' sequel

Will Smith is teasing a sequel to his big-screen superhero comedy Hancock. "There's a really cool, really cool Hancock 2 idea," he said Wednesday during an appearance on xQc's Twitch livestream. "We haven't even talked about it, so I'm gonna give you ... one little piece. Zendaya will be being approached for Hancock 2, for a role in Hancock 2." Related: Zendaya returns as Rue in Euphoria season 3 first look, long-delayed production begins The 2008 film featured Smith as the titular superhero, who happens to be a big drinker and pretty bad in general at his job. By the end, he finds his inner superhero-strength. Associates Mary (Charlize Theron), who happens to be his ex-wife, and Jason Bateman's Ray are along for the ride. The movie elicited mixed reviews from critics, but a green light from audiences. It brought in $227.9 million domestically and more than $629 million internationally, according to Box Office Mojo. Director Peter Berg explained back in January 2012, in an interview with that a sequel likely would happen. "It's just a question of timing," the Friday Night Lights director said. "We've been talking about the sequel between us, Will Smith, [producers] Michael Mann, and Akiva Goldman and myself," Berg said. "We're all interested, but we literally just have trouble getting into the same room at the same time. We did have a series of meetings last year and started to hash out an idea for the sequel — and Will Smith actually had the idea — so I think it will happen, it's just a question of timing."Theron indicated in June 2020 that a conversation about bringing the gang back together had fizzled out, but she said she was still game. "We'll be superheroes with our walkers, you know. And I'll still go!" Theron told "I'll still make that movie, I would do it in a heartbeat." The question is whether the Challengers star is interested in being part of a Hitchcock sequel. She returns to TV screens on the hit drama Euphoria for its third season, which is expected next year. HBO released a look at Zendaya in her starring role as recovering drug addict Rue this month as production on the new season began. Read the original article on Entertainment Weekly

Will Smith teases 'Hancock 2' and Zendaya's possible role in sequel

Will Smith has hinted that a long-awaited sequel to his 2008 superhero movie Hancock is in development. During a surprise appearance on xQc's Twitch livestream, the Oscar-winning actor teased a fresh concept for Hancock 2 and revealed that Zendaya is being approached for a role. 'There's a really cool Hancock 2 idea,' Smith said. 'We haven't even talked about it, but I'm going to give you one little piece. Zendaya [is] being approached for a role in Hancock 2.' Released in 2008, Hancock starred Smith as a troubled and reckless superhero suffering from amnesia, with Charlize Theron and Jason Bateman in supporting roles. The film was directed by Peter Berg and written by Vince Gilligan and Vy Vincent Ngo. It grossed over $629 million worldwide, making a sequel a topic of discussion for years. Since its release, talks of a follow-up have surfaced multiple times. In 2009, Berg confirmed that both Smith and Theron were set to return. A few years later, the director cited scheduling conflicts as the primary reason the sequel had yet to materialize. In 2020, Theron expressed her willingness to reprise her role if the project ever moved forward. The recent revelation from Smith has reignited excitement among fans who have been waiting over a decade for Hancock 2. With Zendaya's potential involvement and a fresh storyline, the sequel could bring a new dynamic to the franchise. Sony Pictures has yet to confirm an official release date or additional casting details, but Smith's remarks suggest that Hancock 2 may finally be on its way.
