US' HanesBrands Q2 profit surges 345%, raises FY25 guidance

American clothing company HanesBrands Inc has posted a remarkable 345 per cent year-on-year (YoY) surge in operating profit to $155 million for the second quarter (Q2) of fiscal 2025 (FY25), ending June 28, driven by stronger margins and lower costs. Net sales rose 1.8 per cent YoY to $991 million, while gross profit jumped 38 per cent to $412 million and gross margin widened 1,100 basis points (bps) to 41.6 per cent. On an adjusted basis, the gross profit reached $408 million with a 145-bps increase in gross margin to 41.2 per cent. The operating margin rose 2,210 bps to 15.6 per cent. HanesBrands Inc has reported better-than-expected Q2 FY25 results with net sales up 1.8 per cent YoY to $991 million and gross profit rising 38 per cent. The operating profit soared 345 per cent to $155 million, with EPS at $0.24. US sales declined slightly, while international sales dropped 3 per cent. The company raised its full-year outlook and expects Q3 sales of $900 million. The adjusted operating profit was $153 million, rising 22 per cent with a margin of 15.5 per cent (up 255 basis points). Earnings per share (EPS) jumped 162 per cent YoY to $0.24, while adjusted EPS increased 60 per cent to the same value. Interest and other expenses fell by $4 million to $57 million, driven by lower debt balances, HanesBrands said in a press release. Region-wise, US sales declined by $5 million, though gains were seen in basics, active, and new businesses; these were offset by softness in intimate apparel. US operating margin rose 360 bps to 25 per cent. International sales declined 3 per cent on a reported basis (flat in constant currency), with regional growth in the Americas, flat sales in Australia, and a decline in Asia. International operating margin fell 225 basis points to 10.7 per cent, affected by higher promotional activity, unfavourable mix, and FX headwinds. The company's leverage ratio improved to 3.3 times net debt-to-adjusted EBITDA, down from 4.6 times in the prior year. Inventory rose 4 per cent YoY to $957 million, while cash flow from operations totalled $36 million, and free cash flow stood at $27 million, compared to $78 million and $71 million, respectively, last year. HanesBrands Inc. Announces Better-Than-Expected Second-Quarter 2025 Results and Raises Full-Year Outlook

HanesBrands is seeing continued momentum from its strategy and transformation, driving growth in revenue, profit, and earnings per share. Second-Quarter 2025 Results Net Sales from continuing operations were $991 million. Net Sales increased 1.8% compared to prior year. On an organic constant currency basis, Net Sales were relatively consistent with prior year (Table 2-B). Gross Profit and Gross Margin increased year-over-year driven by the benefits from cost savings and productivity initiatives, the benefits from assortment management, and lower input costs. The Company continued its consolidation and other optimization actions in its supply chain to lower fixed costs, increase efficiencies, and further improve customer service and in-stocks with lower levels of inventory. The Company expects these actions to drive continued benefits in 2025. Gross Profit increased 38% to $412 million and Gross Margin increased 1,100 basis points to 41.6% as compared to prior year. Adjusted Gross Profit increased 6% to $408 million and Adjusted Gross Margin increased 145 basis points to 41.2% as compared to prior year. Adjusted Gross Profit and Adjusted Gross Margin exclude certain costs related to restructuring and other action-related charges (Table 6-A). Operating Profit and Operating Margin increased over prior year through the combination of gross margin improvement and lower SG&A expenses. SG&A expenses decreased compared to prior year both on an absolute basis and as a percent of net sales due to the benefits from cost savings initiatives and disciplined expense management. Operating Profit increased 345% to $155 million and Operating Margin increased 2,210 basis points to 15.6% as compared to prior year. Adjusted Operating Profit increased 22% to $153 million and Adjusted Operating Margin increased 255 basis points to 15.5% as compared to prior year. Adjusted Operating Profit and Adjusted Operating Margin exclude certain costs related to restructuring and other action-related charges (Table 6-A). Interest Expense and Other Expenses Interest and Other Expenses decreased $4 million over prior year to $57 million driven primarily by lower debt balances. Earnings Per Share Income from continuing operations totaled $85 million, or $0.24 per diluted share, in the second quarter of 2025. This compares to a loss from continuing operations of ($136) million, or ($0.39) per diluted share, in second-quarter 2024. Adjusted Income from continuing operations totaled $84 million, or $0.24 per diluted share, in the second quarter of 2025. This compares to income from continuing operations of $53 million, or $0.15 per diluted share, last year (Table 6-A). Second-Quarter 2025 Business Segment Summary U.S. net sales decreased slightly, or approximately $5 million, as compared to prior year. The Company continued to focus on its core growth fundamentals including innovation, brand investments, and incremental programming opportunities. These fundamentals delivered year-over-year growth in its Basics, Active, and New businesses. Similar to the overall innerwear market, this growth was more than offset by continued headwinds in its Intimate Apparel business. Operating margin of 25.0% increased 360 basis points over prior year driven by benefits from cost savings and productivity initiatives as well as lower input costs. International net sales decreased 3% on a reported basis, which included a $7 million headwind from unfavorable foreign exchange rates, and were consistent with prior year on a constant currency basis. By region, constant currency net sales increased in the Americas, were consistent with prior year in Australia, and decreased in Asia. Operating margin of 10.7% decreased 225 basis points compared to prior year, driven primarily by increased promotional activity, unfavorable mix, increased brand investment and the impact from foreign exchange rates, which more than offset the benefits from cost savings initiatives and lower input costs. Balance Sheet and Cash Flow Based on the calculation as defined in the Company's senior secured credit facility, the Leverage Ratio at the end of second-quarter 2025 was 3.3 times on a net debt-to-adjusted EBITDA basis, which was below prior year's 4.6 times (Table 6-B). Inventory at the end of second-quarter 2025 of $957 million increased 4%, or $40 million, year-over-year. Cash Flow from Operations was $36 million in second-quarter 2025, which compared to $78 million last year. Free Cash Flow for the quarter was $27 million as compared to $71 million last year. Third-Quarter and Full-Year 2025 Financial Outlook The Company is providing guidance on tax expense due to the expected fluctuation of its quarterly tax rate, stemming from the deferred tax reserve matter previously disclosed in fourth-quarter 2022. Importantly, the reserve does not impact cash taxes. Some portion of the reserve may reverse in future periods. The Company defines organic constant currency Net Sales as Net Sales excluding the 'other' segment and the year-over-year impact from foreign exchange rates. The Company's guidance reflects its expected impact from U.S. tariffs and is subject to change in the future. For Fiscal year 2025, which ends January 3, 2026, and includes a 53rd week, the Company currently expects: Net Sales from continuing operations of approximately $3.53 billion, which includes projected headwinds of approximately $35 million from changes in foreign currency exchange rates. Net Sales are expected to increase slightly over prior year on both a reported and organic constant currency basis. GAAP Operating Profit from continuing operations of approximately $471 million. Adjusted Operating Profit from continuing operations of approximately $485 million, which excludes pretax charges for restructuring and other action-related charges of approximately $14 million. The operating profit outlook includes a projected headwind of approximately $5 million from changes in foreign currency exchange rates. Interest expense of approximately $180 million. While these costs are not expected to continue for any singular transaction on an ongoing basis, similar types of costs, expenses and charges have occurred in prior periods and may recur in future periods depending upon future business plans and circumstances. HanesBrands has chosen to present these non‐GAAP measures to investors to enable additional analyses of past, present and future operating performance and as a supplemental means of evaluating operations absent the effect of our supply chain restructuring and consolidation and other actions that are deemed to be material stand-alone initiatives apart from the Company's core operations. US' HanesBrands' earnings climb as gross margin hits 41.7% in Q1 2025

American clothing company HanesBrands Inc has reported net sales of $760 million in the first quarter (Q1) of 2025 ended March 29, an increase of 2.1 per cent year-over-year (YoY). On an organic constant currency basis, net sales remained consistent with the previous year. The gross profit rose by 6 per cent to $317 million, with gross margin improving by 170 basis points (bps) to 41.7 per cent, driven by lower input costs, cost-saving initiatives, and strategic assortment management. The adjusted gross profit also increased by 6 per cent to $316 million, and adjusted gross margin climbed by 165 bps to 41.6 per cent, excluding restructuring and other related charges. HanesBrands Inc has reported net sales of $760 million in Q1 2025, up 2.1 per cent YoY, with gross margin rising to 41.7 per cent. Adjusted operating profit grew 61 per cent to $81 million, and adjusted EPS rose to $0.07. US and international sales declined slightly. For FY25, sales are projected at $3.47â€'$3.52 billion. Its Q2 sales are expected at $970 million, with adjusted EPS of $0.18. The company continued its supply chain optimisation efforts through consolidation and cost reduction measures aimed at lowering fixed costs, improving efficiencies, and enhancing customer service, all while maintaining lower inventory levels, HanesBrands said in a press release. The adjusted operating profit increased by 61 per cent to $81 million, accompanied by a 390 bps rise in adjusted operating margin to 10.7 per cent. The diluted earnings per share (EPS) grew by approximately 145 per cent to $0.04, while adjusted EPS climbed 240 per cent to $0.07. Region-wise, US net sales declined by 1 per cent YoY, as continued growth in basics, active, and new businesses—fuelled by innovation, increased brand investments, and expanded programming—was offset by persistent challenges in the intimate apparel segment, mirroring broader market trends. The international net sales fell by 2 per cent on a reported basis, impacted by a $12 million foreign exchange headwind. However, on a constant currency basis, international sales rose 4 per cent, with growth recorded in Australia and Asia and stable performance in the Americas. For the fiscal 2025, ending January 3, 2026, the company expects net sales from continuing operations to range between approximately $3.47 billion and $3.52 billion. At the midpoint, net sales are anticipated to remain broadly consistent with the prior year on a reported basis and to grow by around 1 per cent on an organic constant currency basis. GAAP operating profit is forecast to be between $425 million and $440 million, while adjusted operating profit is expected to range from $450 million to $465 million, excluding approximately $25 million in pretax restructuring and other action-related charges, added the release. For the second quarter (Q2) of 2025, ending June 28, HanesBrands expects net sales of approximately $970 million, including an estimated $15 million headwind from foreign currency exchange rate changes. Net sales are projected to remain broadly consistent with the prior year on both a reported and organic constant currency basis. GAAP operating profit is anticipated to be around $129 million, while adjusted operating profit is forecast at approximately $136 million, excluding roughly $7 million in pretax restructuring and other action-related charges. GAAP earnings per share (EPS) is projected at approximately $0.16, with adjusted EPS expected at $0.18, based on an estimated 357 million fully diluted shares outstanding.
