Orkney 2025: Triathlon success brings Jersey to the top of the medal table
Triathletes from the Channel Islands have brought early success to both Guernsey and Jersey on day one of Island Games action in Orkney. The event saw team Jersey bring home two golds, whilst team Guernsey won gold, silver, and bronze medals. It was victory for Jersey in the men's race, with Thomas Atkinson securing the island's first gold with a time of 01:52:47. Atkinson led throughout, completing his swim in 18 minutes and 42 seconds and managing to hold onto that lead through the cycle and run - despite the difficulty brought on by the unexpected hot weather. In the men's race, Gotland took home silver and Orkney claimed the bronze. The women's race also saw Channel Islands success, with Guernsey's Hannah Kennedy - who, at 18, has come to the Games off the back of finishing her a-levels - coming in second with a time of 02:22:45. Whilst Kennedy was in the lead at the first transition point, she fell into second place during the cycle - and it was ultimately a home win for Orkney's Claire Rendall, with the Isle of Man's Clara Isaac coming in third. Guernsey's Amy Critchlow - who's competing in her fifth and final games - fell away from the podium during the run, ultimately finishing fifth. The men's team race saw both islands reach the podium - with Jersey's team finishing first, and Guernsey coming third. The women's team race brought Guernsey their first gold - with Amy Critchlow, Hannah Kennedy, Lindsay Sword and Chloe Truffitt finising with a victorious time of 04:51:03.
