Iraq adopts new measures to increase exports
Baghdad ( – The Iraqi Ministry of Trade revealed on Monday that it is adopting a comprehensive strategy to boost Iraqi exports, protect domestic industry, and expand the number of Iraqi items sent abroad. The spokesperson for the Trade Ministry, Mohammed Hanoun, informed the state-run news agency (INA) that the ministry is collaborating with a committee to promote Iraqi products that are available for export. Hanoun illustrated that the purpose of this structure is to develop rules that would assist Iraqi investors and producers in promoting items for export. The Iraqi official also confirmed that the criteria meant to encourage exports are clear and allow exporters to broaden the range of products available for sale. He added that the ministry is making major efforts in this area and intends to export more than 200 Iraqi products. The approaching term will see tremendous progress, both through recognized export methods and financial and logistical support offered by Iraq's Export Subsidy Fund to Iraqi exporters. According to Hanoun, there is a strong government interest in executing the current rules set by the Iraqi cabinet to help Iraqi industry and exports as part of a comprehensive plan to encourage Iraqi exports while protecting local industry.

Iraq launches comprehensive plan to ensure food security amid regional tensions
Baghdad ( – Iraq's Ministry of Trade announced on Monday (June 16, 2025) a package of proactive measures to ensure national food security amidst rising regional tensions, particularly potential supply chain disruptions from the Iran-Israel conflict. Ministry spokesperson Mohammed Hanoun stated the comprehensive plan includes bolstering strategic food stockpiles by contracting for large quantities of imported rice and securing domestic sugar and oil supplies. The plan also includes government decisions to facilitate imports through temporary customs exemptions on basic food items during emergencies. To support local production and reduce import dependency, the government is increasing the purchase price of wheat from Iraqi farmers. For citizens, the plan includes distributing food to needy families and doubling the contents of the public ration card during any potential crisis. Hanoun added that 24/7 field teams have been formed to monitor markets, control prices, and prevent hoarding. He stressed this is a high-level coordinated effort to secure food reserves for several months and protect the public.

Iraq's oil exports to Turkey surpass $1.5 billion in 2024
Baghdad ( – Data recently published revealed that the value of Iraq's oil exports to Turkey surpassed $1.5 billion in 2024. With a total value of $1.64 billion, Iraq's oil exports to Turkey during 2024 reached 4.62 million tons, Shafaq News reported. This quantity represents two percent of Iraq's total oil exports to foreign countries. According to the statistics, Iraq's oil shipments to Turkey grew by 82 percent over the past four years. The spokesperson for the Iraqi Ministry of Trade, Mohamed Hanoun, revealed last month that there is an Iraqi-Turkish desire to increase the volume of trade exchange, which has surpassed $14 billion, according to statistics released by the Turkish Ministry of Trade. Given Turkey's position in the world economy, the volume of trade exchange between the two countries is steadily growing, according to Hanoun. The Turkish Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hakan Fidan, confirmed in January that the volume of trade exchange between Iraq and Turkey reached $20 billion. In a joint press conference with Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein, Fidan said that Turkey sees its relationship with Iraq as crucial, indicating that Turkey will experience more security and stability the more Iraq does. The Turkish Minister of Trade, Omer Bolat, said in early December that his country seeks to increase trade exchange with Iraq to $30 billion. Bolat added that Turkish companies and investors have completed projects in Iraq worth $35 billion.
