5 arrested every day in Mohali since March under ‘Yudh Nashiya Virudh'
Mohali: In a sweeping crackdown on drug trafficking, police in Mohali have arrested 447 accused in the past 90 days as part of the statewide 'Yudh Nashiya Virudh' campaign. This means five arrests were made every day, on an average, underlining the district police's zero-tolerance to the drug menace. SSP (Mohali) Harmandeep Singh Hans said the campaign led to the registration of 277 FIRs under the NDPS Act across various police stations in the district from March to May. According to police data, March saw the highest activity with 99 FIRs and 143 arrests, followed by 82 FIRs and 142 arrests in April. May witnessed 96 FIRs and 162 arrests, indicating a steady escalation in enforcement efforts. "Our teams have worked relentlessly. We not only arrested 447 drug traffickers but also succeeded in significantly disrupting the supply chain," SSP Hans said. "Last year, the conviction rate had reached an impressive 86%, which reflects the strength of our legal follow-through," he added. Among the drugs most frequently seized, ganja topped the list, with a total recovery of 58.69kg. This was followed by 38.23kg of poppy husk, 32.45kg of opium, 3.53kg of heroin, and 2.7 kg of charas. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Pinga-Pinga e HBP? Police recovered 1,26,382 banned capsules and tablets, along with five bottles of illegal cough syrup. In a move aimed at financially crippling drug networks, the police demolished six illegal structures belonging to four identified drug traffickers during the campaign. "This sends a strong message to those profiting from the illegal drug trade that their operations will not just be shut down—they will be dismantled entirely," the SSP said. He warned drug smugglers and repeat offenders of dire consequences, including stringent legal action and the confiscation of illegally acquired property. "We are committed to eliminating the drug trade from our soil. Under the leadership of chief minister Bhagwant Singh Mann and DGP Gaurav Yadav, we are pursuing a zero-tolerance policy," he added. The police have appealed to the public to play an active role by reporting drug-related activities. The success of this campaign marks a critical stride in Punjab's ongoing war against narcotics, aiming to safeguard future generations from the grip of addiction. Noida: Punjab cops nab 7 nationals of Ghana, Nigeria for fraud; seize 79 phones, 99 SIMs
The Mohali Cyber Crime Cell of the Punjab Police has busted an international racket of fraudsters by arresting seven nationals of Nigeria and Ghana from a rented accommodation in Noida from where they were allegedly operating a fake call centre, police said on Saturday. The accused, all men, were sent to two-day police remand by a Mohali court. During the raid, police seized 79 smartphones, four laptops (including two Apple MacBooks), 99 SIM cards (Indian and foreign), and documents related to 31 fake bank accounts. The total value of the seized items is estimated to be around `30 lakh. Transactions worth approximately `15 crore were traced through the bank accounts, police said. Mohali SSP Harmandeep Singh Hans said the suspects are aged between 25 and 35 years and are all educated. The accused allegedly used fake social media profiles on social media platforms to befriend Indian and foreign nationals. SSP Hans said preliminary probe suggest the gang possibly duped over 350 people. 'Using advanced cyber tools and covert strategies, our team managed to apprehend the culprits.' The police said the gang would lure people by promising expensive gifts sent from abroad. Later, they would say that customs have held the parcel and demand money on the pretext of clearance charges or taxes. The scammers would share a bank account number with people and ask to deposit a specified sum. The operation was led by DSP Rupinderdeep Kaur Sohi who said the house where the gang was operating from was taken on rent by a Nigerian woman whose whereabouts is yet to be traced. DSP Sohi said the bank accounts used by the gang were opened in private banks and probe is on to determine the names of the accountholders and how the SIM cards were obtained. She also said the scammers also targeted Nigerian citizens, deceiving them with fake job offers in India.

Hamilton Nervous about Reaction to New F1 Film
MONACO, May 23 (Bernama-PA Media/dpa) -- Lewis Hamilton admits he was nervous about his fellow drivers seeing his Formula 1 movie and has revealed that he is working on more film projects, PA Media/dpa reported. The grid's stars were given an exclusive screening of the action movie, titled F1, on Wednesday at the Grimaldi Forum in Monaco, ahead of this weekend's Monaco Grand Prix. It will see Oscar-winning actor Brad Pitt, 61, play the fictional veteran driver Sonny Hayes, who is returning to the sport after a long absence. bootstrap slideshow "All of a sudden, I've got all the drivers there, I was sat in the middle and I was nervous," Hamilton said. "I was like, 'oh God everyone's seeing it for the first time'. And it was great to look around and see some of the reactions. I really care what the drivers think and I wanted them to think highly of it. "I think the great thing is the sound is great, the image is incredible. It's something that's never been done in Formula 1 before. So it's something I'm really proud of." The Apple Original film, which is being co-produced by seven-time world champion Hamilton, will launch internationally on June 25. The 40-year-old revealed that, having got a taste for directing, he and his film studio Dawn Apollo are working on more upcoming projects. "To think that it's finally here, after all the work that's gone on, from having (score composer) Hans Zimmer – speaking to Hans and having Hans come on board and doing this score, I'm a huge fan of his – so just the whole project was incredible," Hamilton added.
