Bhubaneswar: The Vigilance sleuths on Sunday detected 44 plots, one kg of gold, deposits worth Rs 1.34 crore and other valuable items allegedly in the possession of a Motor Vehicle Inspector (MVI) in Boudh district. The valuables were located in six locations of Golap Chandra Hansdah, MVI, Boudh, an official of the anti-corruption wing said. The MVI was taken into on an allegation that he had accumulated properties disproportionate to his known source of income, a search was conducted in his houses. The Vigilance team found Rs 2.38 lakh in cash, a dairy with details of 'benami' money transaction and spending of Rs 40 lakh for the medical studies of his daughter, a statement said. He also possessed a double-storeyed building with an area of 3,300 sq ft at Baripada in Mayurbhanj district. Of the 44 plots in possession of Hansdah and his family, 43 were located in and around Baripada town and one was on the outskirts of Balasore town, the Vigilance statement said. 'The sale deed value of plots comes to Rs 1.49 crore. A thorough probe has been initiated in this regard. The measurement and valuation/assessment of the buildings/plots are being carried out by the Vigilance Technical Wing. One kg of gold, 2.126 kg of silver and bank deposits worth Rs 1.34 crore were detected,' the Vigilance said. Hansdah had joined the government services in 1991 and worked in the DIC (District Industries Centre) offices of Sambalpur and Deogarh. He was promoted to junior MVI in 2003 and worked in several districts. 'In 2020, he was promoted to MVI and posted to the RTO office in Boudh, where he has been continuing till now. His present salary is Rs 1.08 lakh per month,' the Vigilance said, adding that the investigation was in progress.

Of the total 1 kg, the anti-corruption agency found Hansdah possessing two gold biscuits each weighing 50 gm besides silver ornaments weighing over 2 kg. Hansdah and his family members own 43 plots in and around Baripada town and one plot on the outskirts of Balasore town. Sources said, the sale deed value of the 44 plots has been calculated at Rs 1.49 crore. However, Vigilance officers suspect undervaluation of the plots during their registration. A thorough probe has been initiated in this regard, the sources added. Besides, the Hansdah family owns a two-storey building spread over 3,300 sq ft in Baripada. The anti-corruption agency traced his bank/postal/insurance deposits amounting to over Rs 1.34 crore, household articles worth more than Rs 16 lakh, one SUV, Rs 2.38 lakh cash, among other assets. Hansdah had reportedly spent Rs 40 lakh towards his daughter's medical education. Earlier in the day, searches were carried out at six places linked to him in Baripada, Boudh and Bhubaneswar.

The assets unearthed included 1kg of gold, 2kg of silver, bank deposits of Rs 1.34 crore, and 44 plots of land. Hansdah, who draws a monthly salary of about Rs 1 lakh, was detained for questioning to ascertain the sources of his assets. "The land holdings comprised 43 plots in and around Baripada town in Mayurbhanj district, and an additional plot near Balasore town.
