Pistons Projected to Draft 'Terrific Rebounder' to Bolster Frontcourt
Pistons Projected to Draft 'Terrific Rebounder' to Bolster Frontcourt originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Detroit Pistons are coming off an impressive season that saw them go from being the worst team in the NBA to being a playoff team. Advertisement Of course, Detroit finished with the worst record in the NBA the prior two seasons before they were able to turn things around this year and make the playoffs as the sixth seed in the Eastern Conference. They were then able to battle it out with the New York Knicks in the first round and while they were eliminated in six games, they proved that Detroit basketball is officially back. Detroit only holds one pick in the 2025 NBA Draft and ClutchPoints' Brett Siegel has them selecting Chinese center Hansen Yang with the 37th overall pick. Advertisement 'Yang is a terrific rebounder. He possesses great footwork in the low post, but he will need to work on his defensive awareness and positioning before contributing in a serious manner,' Siegel wrote. 'The Detroit Pistons can take a chance on Yang in this spot since they need to add more frontcourt depth.' Siegel makes a great point about the Pistons needing to upgrade their frontcourt depth this summer and Yang could end up being a perfect fit, especially after showing out at the NBA Draft Combine. This season in China, the 7-2 center averaged 16.6 points, 10.5 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 1.0 steals and 2.6 blocks per game while shooting 55.4 % from the field and 22.6% from three. While Yang is still developing his scoring and defensive abilities, he has a chance to be a potential steal of the draft if he continues to develop his game, especially with him being only 19 years old. Advertisement Yang would bring much-needed size to the Pistons and he would also provide them with another solid defender, which was the staple of Detroit's game this season. China Has the NBA's Most Valuable Draft Prospect
The Dallas Mavericks were the unlikely winners of the National Basketball League's draft lottery on Monday. Their prize is the chance to get Cooper Flagg, the top college player in the country, when the NBA drafts kick off next month. However, Flagg isn't close to being the most valuable prospect on the 2025 draft board. That honor belongs to Hansen Yang, a little-known 7 feet, 2 inches tall and 249-pound center who currently plays for the Qingdao Eagles of the Chinese Basketball Association.

2025 NBA Draft scouting report: Hansen Yang, C, Qingdao
For a two-round mock draft and a big board with full scouting reports, check out my NBA Draft Guide. Hansen Yang, C, Qingdao Height: 7-1 • Weight: 250 • Age: 19 Summary: Yang is a massive Chinese 7-footer who scores with old-school craft, passes well, and cleans the glass. But how much his slow feet and lack of shooting range can be improved will determine whether he can stick in the pros. Advertisement Comparisons: Nikola Vucevic Strengths Post scoring: Yang has a deep bag in the post with smooth footwork, primary moves, and the feel to make counters. When he establishes deep post positioning he's hard to stop inside. This knack for scoring near the rim also translates to hitting layups off cuts and rolls. Passing: Great passing vision for a big man. He makes quick decisions and generally delivers accurate passes. His Chinese team would even run offense through him. He could offer value playmaking out of handoffs. Interior defense: He was an excellent rim protector and rebounder in China, using his massive frame to deter opponents and vacuum boards. He'll need to prove it can translate to NBA competition without falling into foul trouble, but the ability is there. Concerns Perimeter defense: Hasn't shown the ability to comfortably switch, even playing in China. He lacks the foot speed to do much more than play drop coverage. Advertisement Interior defense: Not an elite shot-blocker despite his size due to a lack of great length or leaping ability. Plus, he needs to get quicker moving in tight spaces to react to fast-moving NBA athletes attacking the rim. Shooting: He made only 28% of his 3s, 29.2% of his 2-point jumpers, and 66.8% of his free throws. There's not much evidence he'll be able to shoot effectively. Mindset: He played in the CBA. The speed and athleticism of the NBA is just on a dramatically different level that will test him in ways he never has been before. This matters purely for experience reasons, but also because he too often didn't impose his will despite his physical advantages even at that level. The NBA will be an even greater challenge.
