ACB traps senior assistant while taking bribe
Eluru: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has trapped a senior assistant working in the Kaikaluru Sub-Treasury Office in Eluru district for accepting a bribe. Kulukuluri Hanumantha Rao, the senior assistant, had demanded Rs 50,000 from Sheik Abdul Subhani, a retired attender from the revenue department, to process and send his pension arrears and gratuity bills to higher authorities. Subhani had approached the ACB after being asked to pay the bribe. The ACB sleuths laid a trap and caught Hanumantha Rao red-handed while accepting Rs 20,000, which was part of the bribe amount. The accused officer had given Subhani the option to pay Rs 20,000 upfront and the remaining amount later. Following the trap, Hanumantha Rao was arrested and will be produced before the ACB court in Rajahmundry.

Women's empowerment core of govt vision: Ilaiah
Aleru (Yadadri-Bhongir): 'State government's top priority is the economic empowerment of women,' said Government Whip and Aleru MLA Beerla Ilaiah during the Indira Mahila Shakti Celebrations held at YSN Function Hall in Aleru town on Thursday. The event was organised by the District Rural Development Department and attended by MLC Nellikanti Satyam, District Collector Hanumantha Rao, Additional Collector Bhaskar Rao, and others. Addressing the gathering, Ilaiah said that every welfare scheme launched by the state government has placed women at the centre. 'Chief Minister Revanth Reddy envisions making one crore women into crorepatis. To achieve this, women are being prioritized in housing, welfare loans, and economic schemes,' he said. He highlighted initiatives like interest-free loans, 50% of IKP centers being allocated to women, free bus travel, Rs 200 worth of free electricity, and gas cylinders at just Rs 500. He also announced plans to offer petrol bunks, Mahila Shakti canteens, and solar power plants with land allocations to women's groups. Collector Hanumantha Rao reiterated the government's commitment, noting that women have become contractors in Amma Model Schools and are now handling projects such as petrol bunks, stitching school uniforms, and managing grain purchase centers. As part of the program, cheques were distributed Rs 1.44 crore in interest-free loans to SHG members , Rs 10 lakh accident insurance cheque to the nominee of a deceased SHG member , Rs 51.77 crore in bank loans to Aleru constituency's women members and Rs 11.53 lakh in loan insurance claims to SHG members MLC Nellikanti Satyam said that overall development is only possible through women's advancement. The event concluded with the participation of officials, public representatives, and hundreds of women.

Over 560 dogs vaccinated on World Zoonoses Day
Vijayawada: Onthe occasion of World Zoonoses Day, a collaborative effort by the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC), the Animal Husbandry Department (NTR District), Jeevakarunya Organisation (Bhavanipuram), and the Sai Baba Satsang Seva Samithi saw free anti-rabies vaccinations administered to 563 pet dogs across the city on Sunday. The vaccination drive was formally inaugurated at the Kothapeta Nehru Bomma Centre in One Town and at the Jeevakarunya Organisation's Iron Yard in Bhavanipuram. The inauguration was led by Dr Hanumantha Rao, Joint Director of Animal Husbandry, NTR District, alongside 52nd and 53rd Division Corporators Ummadi Venkateswara Rao and Mahadevu Appaji. Speaking at the event, Joint Director Dr Hanumantha Rao underscored the critical importance of controlling zoonotic diseases—illnesses that can be transmitted between animals and humans. He highlighted common zoonotic concerns such as rabies and leptospirosis from dogs, tuberculosis and brucellosis from cattle, anthrax from goats and sheep, and bird flu from poultry, all of which pose serious public health risks. Dr Gopal Naik, AMHO-3, Vijayawada Municipal Corporation, urged citizens to remain vigilant and adopt preventive measures against the spread of dangerous diseases like rabies, anthrax, and brucellosis. He also noted the historical significance of July 6, 1885, when scientist Louis Pasteur successfully administered the first rabies vaccine to a nine-year-old boy. Dr Venkateswara Rao, Assistant Director of the Animal Husbandry Department, informed that the government is actively working to prevent the spread of life-threatening diseases, including anthrax. As part of this broader campaign, anti-rabies vaccines were specifically administered to pet dogs during Sunday's drive. Ummadi Venkateswara Rao (52nd Division Corporator) encouraged all city residents to take full advantage of such public health programs. The VMC also distributed informative leaflets explaining best practices for managing street dogs and emphasizing the importance of rabies prevention. Among those present at the event were Dr Annapurna (AMHO-1), and veterinary doctors from Navodaya Vet Society including Dr Ganga Bhavani, Dr Ramachandra Reddy, Dr Sai Krishna, Dr Ravi Kanth, and Dr Sri Lakshmi.

Madurai AIIMS to be operational from Pongal
MADURAI: The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) which is being built at Thoppur in Madurai will start functioning from Pongal festival (January) next year, AIIMS Madurai executive director Hanumantha Rao said on Friday. Addressing reporters, Rao said a consultative meeting regarding construction of the hospital was held with AIIMS president Prasant Lavania, Virudhunagar MP K Manickam Tagore, Tenkasi MP Rani Sri kumar, and AIADMK Rajyasabha MP Chandrasekaran. Along with them eight members participated through online mode. Meeting lasted more than two hours. 'For the past four years, AIIMS Madurai students have been studying in Government Medical College in Ramanathapuram. Due to the scarcity of buildings, classes are going on in the rented building. AIIMS construction is in full swing, and will start functioning in the new building in Thoppur, from the Pongal festival,' he said. 'Within January 2026 construction of laboratories, 150 bedded admission facilities with treatment will be completed. Contractors are asked to send the pictures of the construction on a monthly basis,' he added.

Swift action sought on SC/ST cases
Bhongir: The SC/ST Commission Chairman, Bakki Venkataiah, has directed officials to resolve all pending cases related to Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes across various departments. On Saturday, he conducted a review meeting at the Collectorate Conference Hall in Yadadri-Bhongir district, along with Collector Hanumantha Rao, DCP Akshansh Yadav, and Commission members. The Chairman proposed holding a Civil Rights Day on the last Saturday of every month, involving tahsildars and police officers to address village-level grievances. He instructed the formation of a quarterly DVMC (District Vigilance & Monitoring Committee) to ensure inter-departmental coordination in resolving SC/ST-related concerns. The Commission chief stressed strict adherence to the Rule of Reservation (RoR) in promotions and warned of disciplinary action for violations. Earlier, the Chairman visited the under-construction Ambedkar Bhavan in Singannagudem and urged speedy completion. He paid floral tributes to Dr BR Ambedkar and Babu Jagjivan Ram statues in Bhongir town. Public petitions were accepted directly by the Chairman.
