Frequent elephant movement in MM Hills Sanctuary pose a threat to motorists

Mysuru: The frequent movement of wild elephants across roads connecting Kowdalli, Gajanur, Ajjipura, and other forest-fringe villages in MM Hills Wildlife Sanctuary, Chamarajanagar, has become a growing concern for motorists and a challenge to public safety. The forest department is actively monitoring the situation and working to steer the elephants back into the forests. Despite these efforts, sightings of elephants in the border areas of the forest is frequent, particularly in Hanur taluk. In the past month alone, elephants have been spotted over ten times along this stretch. Incidents reported include attacks on two-wheeler riders, a KSRTC bus that encountered animals near the Meenyam forest area, and reckless behaviour from some motorists who teased the animals and clicked photos at close range. Wildlife activist Mallesh said with elephants often straying onto roads in search of food and water, the highways part of elephant corridors should feature clear signage and speed restrictions. "The forest department must intensify its surveillance," he said. He also said steps should be taken to install speed governors and traffic monitoring cameras along the stretch. "Such measures will help forest department and law enforcement agencies identify speeding and impose hefty fines on motorists disturbing wild animals," he said. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Could This NEW Collagen Blend Finally Reduce Your Cellulite? "This would allow elephants a clear line of sight and pause before crossing, reducing the likelihood of sudden encounters with vehicles," he said. MM Hills Wildlife Sanctuary assistant conservator of forests Swapnil Manohar Ahire said the department will take all possible measures to prevent human-elephant conflicts on the highway at Kowdalli, Ajjipura, Nal Road, and surroundings. Patna: The key accused in the murder of sand trader Ramakant Yadav, Divyanshu alias Anshu, sustained a gunshot wound to his left leg while attempting to flee police near Nisarpur canal late on Friday night. The incident occurred during an operation to recover the murder weapon in the Rani Talab police station area. Divyanshu, a resident of Kaab village, was arrested in Lucknow on Aug 15 by a joint team of Patna STF and local police. "Following his arrest and interrogation in Patna, where he confessed to the murder, Divyanshu led us to the canal to retrieve the firearm used in the crime," said Patna SSP Kartikeya Kumar Sharma on Saturday. Martyred BSF jawan's son carries legacy

Hazaribag: The legacy of Jagdish Kachchap, a BSF jawan, lives on in the heart of Hurudag village, nestled amid the lush greenery and the hum of daily life, not just in the stories shared by the villagers but in the very spirit that drives his son, Deepak (24) to guard the country in the same force his father served. The tale of the Kachchap family is one of sacrifice, resilience, and an unwavering commitment to serving the nation. Notably, Jagdish died in an IED blast on the Shikargarh-Laryar road in Kashmir on January 27, 2006. Deepak, now stationed in Tripura, carries the weight of his father's legacy. As a child, his memories of his father were faint, mere glimpses of a man in uniform, a hero whose life was cut short in the line of duty. Yet, those hazy recollections were enough to ignite a fire within him, a desire to follow in his father's footsteps and serve the country with the same valour and dedication. For Deepak, wearing the uniform is not just a job, but it is a fulfilment of a dream, a continuation of a mission that his father began.
