Riverhawks clinch spot in North Division Championship with tiebreaker win against HarbourCats
The Edmonton Riverhawks won the first-round playoffs in do-or-die game against the Victoria HarbourCats on Aug. 10, 2025. (Marek Tkach/CTV News Edmonton) For the first time in their franchise's history, the Edmonton Riverhawks are headed to the North Division Championships after a deciding game win on Sunday against the Victoria HarbourCats. Riverhawks took the rubber match home on the Remax field Sunday afternoon, 8-7 in a game that came down to the wire in the last inning. A 3-1 loss against the HarbourCats in Edmonton Saturday night split the first-round playoffs as Hawks won in Victoria on Friday. The next game for the Riverhawks will be on Tuesday at 7 p.m. for the West Coast League's (WCL) 2025 Divisional Final playoffs. There, the Hawks will play the winner of a similar elimination game happening on Sunday evening between the Bellingham Bells and Wenatchee AppleSox. Pitcher Myles Chamberlain said the mindset for Tuesday's game will be to keep the energy alive. 'Play our game. Stay confident with that. We got another home game, which is huge. Fans are going to support us, so let's go do our job, try our best,' he said. Head coach Jake Lanferman said the players have shown resiliency throughout the season. 'I'm just proud of the guys … a win's a win,' he said. 'We're really excited to advance this round of playoffs … they just keep battling.' A win for that single game series sends a team to represent the North in the WCL Finals on Thursday evening. With files from CTV News Edmonton's Marek Tkach
