Linkin Park Returns To No. 1 In America With Its First Smash

Linkin Park's 'In the End' returns to No. 1 on Billboard's Hard Rock Streaming Songs chart, marking ... More its eighth nonconsecutive week at the top. TOKYO - JULY 07: Chester Bennington of Linkin Park performs on stage at the Tokyo leg of the Live Earth series of concerts, at Makuhari Messe, Chiba on July 7, 2007 in Tokyo, Japan. Launched by former US Vice President Al Gore to combat Global Warming, the concert is one of a series taking place over a 24-hour period on July 7 across seven continents. (Photo by) Just a few weeks ago, Linkin Park re-released its album From Zero, turning it into a deluxe edition with several new tunes. The following week, that set bolted up a number of Billboard charts, but it didn't take long for its popularity to dwindle once more. A handful of tracks taken from the expanded set are still present on tallies in the United States, even as the full-length all but disappears. Even with new music now available, some of the hard rock group's earliest smashes are proving to be unbeatable — and the one that started it all for the outfit reigns supreme once more. "In the End" bolts from No. 5 to No. 1 on the Hard Rock Streaming Songs chart in America this week, officially becoming the most-streamed hard rock track in the nation once again. With another stint at No. 1 to its credit, "In the End" has now led the Hard Rock Streaming Songs chart for eight nonconsecutive weeks. It first reached the peak position in October of last year, having originally arrived in June 2020. Both "In the End" and "Numb" landed on the ranking at the same time, and the two have now spent just over five years on this chart. "In the End" has spent more time at No. 1 on the Hard Rock Streaming Songs tally than the group's other two champions combined. "The Emptiness Machine" – the lead single taken from 2024's From Zero – managed five frames leading the charge, while "Lost" earned the band its first leader in February 2023, holding for just one frame. "In the End" is becoming hugely successful again across several of Billboard's genre-specific rosters. In addition to jumping to No. 1 on the Hard Rock Streaming Songs chart, the track also reenters the Alternative Streaming Songs list at No. 24, after what must be a noticeable uptick in plays on platforms like Spotify, Apple Music, Tidal, iHeartRadio, and many others. The track also manages to climb on both of Billboard's worldwide lists, lifting just a few spots on the two rosters. Five tunes by Linkin Park appear on at least one Billboard chart apiece this week. "Up From the Bottom," one of the major focuses from the From Zero deluxe edition, finds a home on half a dozen tallies. While it continues to rule a trio of airplay lists, it is largely falling when it comes to other forms of consumption.

Metallica's Career-Defining Single Leaps Into A New Peak Position

Metallica's 'Enter Sandman' hits a new peak at No. 3 on the Hard Rock Streaming Songs chart, more ... More than 30 years after its release from the band's 1991 self-titled album. MADRID, SPAIN - JULY 14: James Hetfield of Metallica performs on stage at Estadio Cívitas Metropolitano on July 14, 2024 in Madrid, Spain. (Photo by Javier Bragado/Redferns) For more than 30 years, Metallica's 'Enter Sandman' has remained a staple in the hard rock world. The group is one of the most popular and successful acts in the genre, and the single — taken from its self-titled 1991 album — is a standout in one of the most valuable catalogs in rock history. As the tune nears its thirty-fifth birthday, it not only continues to appear on multiple Billboard charts, but it also climbs to a new peak on one of them. This week, 'Enter Sandman' bolts from No. 12 to No. 3 on the Hard Rock Streaming Songs chart, leaping nearly 10 spaces. That No. 3 spot now marks the all-time high for 'Enter Sandman' on Billboard's ranking of the most-streamed hard rock cuts in the U.S. After an incredible 260 weeks — exactly five years — on the Hard Rock Streaming Songs list, 'Enter Sandman' hits its highest peak yet. It stands as Metallica's longest-running success on the tally, as the track has spent more time on the streaming-only tally than all other charting wins from the band combined. Just one other single by Metallica has risen to an even loftier position on the Hard Rock Streaming Songs chart. 'Master of Puppets' reached the summit when it debuted at No. 1 in July 2022. It spent a total of six weeks cumulatively running the show. Metallica has sent five tunes to the Hard Rock Streaming Songs chart – a surprisingly small sum for a band so popular – and three of them have cracked the top 10. In addition to 'Master of Puppets' and 'Enter Sandman,' 'Lux Æterna' debuted and peaked at No. 7 in December 2022. Only two tracks are keeping Metallica from securing another No. 1 on the tally — and both are by the same act. Sleep Token appears at Nos. 1 and 2 this week with 'Caramel' and 'Emergence,' respectively. Both compositions have already led the Hard Rock Streaming Songs ranking in the past. As 'Enter Sandman' climbs on the Hard Rock Streaming Songs tally, it dips on two other Billboard charts this frame. The track slides from No. 1 to No. 4 on the Hard Rock Digital Song Sales list and falls from No. 3 to No. 14 on the slightly broader Rock Digital Song Sales chart.

Chris Cornell Charts A New Posthumous Top 10 Hit

Audioslave's 'Like a Stone' climbs to No. 10 on Billboard's Hard Rock Streaming Songs chart, marking ... More the band's first top 10 on the tally. American rock band Audioslave performs on stage, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, July 11, 2003. Pictured is singer Chris Cornell. (Photo by) Audioslave may no longer be an active band since the tragic loss of frontman Chris Cornell years ago, but that doesn't mean people aren't still listening to the music that the group left behind. More than 20 years after it first introduced the supergroup to the world, 'Like a Stone' is still racking up enough plays to make an appearance on the Billboard rankings. This week, the single reaches a new high on one genre-specific tally, giving Audioslave a rare chart win. 'Like a Stone' moves up just one space on the Hard Rock Streaming Songs chart, but that single rung makes a big difference. The tune rises from No. 11 to No. 10, officially breaking into the top 10 on that list for the first time. The tally, which ranks the most-streamed hard rock tracks in the U.S. across platforms like Spotify and Apple Music, has never seen Audioslave rock this high before. Despite being one of the most respected rock bands of the early 2000s, Audioslave has only ever reached the Hard Rock Streaming Songs ranking with 'Like a Stone.' That means this frame's new peak is also the band's first trip into the top 10 on that list. While 'Like a Stone' originally arrived more than two decades ago, it only found space on the Hard Rock Streaming Songs chart for the first time in August 2024. Since then, it's racked up 15 nonconsecutive frames, falling off of the list, only to return again – and in this instance, climb higher than ever. Audioslave isn't the only Cornell-backed act charting this week. Soundgarden, the band that first made the late singer a rock icon, is also present on the Hard Rock Streaming Songs tally. This frame, the group's classic 'Black Hole Sun' keeps at No. 17. That single has proven to be one of Soundgarden's most celebrated smashes, as it has now spent 60 weeks on the roster, and previously peaked at No. 5. Audioslave was formed by combining members of two powerhouse rock outfits: Rage Against the Machine and Soundgarden. The band released its self-titled debut album in 2002, and 'Like a Stone' quickly emerged as its breakout hit. The track became an early rock 2000s staple, thanks in part to Cornell's unmistakable vocals and a slow-burning melody that fans are clearly still enjoying to this day, decades later.

Chris Cornell's Early 2000's Smash Reaches A New Peak

Chris Cornell's 'Like a Stone' climbs to No. 11 on the Hard Rock Streaming Songs chart, giving ... More Audioslave a new peak decades after its initial release. TORONTO, ON - SEPTEMBER 11: Musician/actor Chris Cornell arrives at the premiere of "Machine Gun Preacher" at Roy Thomson Hall during the 2011 Toronto International Film Festival on September 11, 2011 in Toronto, Canada. (Photo by) Years after his tragic suicide, Chris Cornell is still making his presence felt on the Billboard charts. The legendary rocker, who fronted both Soundgarden and Audioslave and also carved out a successful solo career, occasionally returns to the rankings thanks to fans who keep playing his best-known tracks. This frame, one of the biggest hits he helped write is climbing once again, and it helps one of his bands reach a brand new peak. On this week's Hard Rock Streaming Songs chart, 'Like a Stone' steps up one rung, rising from No. 12 to No. 11. That movement may seem minor, but it's meaningful. That new placement represents a brand new all-time high for the band on this specific tally, as it surpasses its previous best showing. 'Like a Stone' is currently the only Audioslave track that has ever managed to find a home on the Hard Rock Streaming Songs ranking. Every time it advances, the band breaks its own record. 'Like a Stone' debuted on the Hard Rock Streaming Songs list in August of last year, decades after it was first released. Since then, it has appeared on the roster a dozen times, making intermittent returns as listeners flock to one of the most recognizable rock songs of the early 2000s. Its latest stint marks its twelfth stay somewhere on the ranking. After reaching stardom with Soundgarden and proving he could stand on his own, Cornell teamed up with former Rage Against the Machine members to form Audioslave a little more than 20 years ago. The band's first single, 'Cochise,' got the group off to a strong start, but it was 'Like a Stone' that turned the outfit into a chart-topping rock force. 'Like a Stone' reached No. 31 on the Hot 100, which not an easy feat for a hard rock composition in the early 2000s. It has since been certified gold in the U.S., and while the band claimed several hits, none matched that success or staying power of this tune. At No. 11, 'Like a Stone' is closer than ever to breaking into the top 10 on the Hard Rock Streaming Songs chart. It has already hit new peaks several times on this tally over the past few months, and the track could easily crack that upper tier in the coming weeks. If it manages to do so, 'Like a Stone' would give Audioslave its first top 10 on this particular tally — and grant Cornell a posthumous win that reminds everyone just how deeply loved and respected his work still is.

Linkin Park's Decades-Old Smash Is The Band's Only Growing Hit

With five songs charting, Linkin Park's "Numb" stands out, gaining across all Billboard tallies it ... More reaches and hitting milestones after decades of success. COLUMBUS, OH - MAY 17: Musicians Mike Shinoda and Chester Bennington of Linkin Park perform at MAPFRE Stadium on May 17, 2015 in Columbus, Ohio. (Photo by Jason Squires/WireImage) Linkin Park's presence on the Billboard charts this week is both impressive and unsurprising. The band has been one of the most dominant forces in hard rock for decades, so seeing five of its songs appear across various rankings at one time doesn't raise too many eyebrows. What's particularly notable this frame, though, is the variety in those wins. The band's currently-charting tracks span both brand new material and older, well-loved smashes. While most tunes fall, almost across the board, one classic in particular is on the move, and it's surging everywhere. Of Linkin Park's five current hits, only "Numb" is gaining across the board. The emotional anthem isn't just showing signs of life, it's actively climbing on each and every chart it reaches. That performance sets it apart from the rest of the group's latest wins, as only a few hold steady on a handful of tallies, while the rest are on the decline. Among all the tallies where "Numb" is present, its best performance this week comes on the only U.S.-based ranking it manages to reach. The fan favorite rises from No. 7 to No. 4 on the Hard Rock Streaming Songs chart. As of this frame, "Numb" joins an exclusive club, becoming one of just eight songs to spend 250 weeks on the tally of the most-streamed hard rock tunes in America. It joins tunes by the likes of Guns N' Roses, AC/DC, and 3 Doors Down. Outside the U.S., "Numb" is also lifting. The cut steps up to No. 102 on the Billboard Global Excl. U.S. and No. 114 on the Billboard Global 200. This week marks a full year — 52 frames — for the band on the Billboard Global 200 with this single, adding a special twist to its resurgence. While "Numb" is clearly the standout this week, it's far from the only Linkin Park song that's still holding on. Four additional cuts find space on at least one list apiece, with most managing to appear on several tallies at once. "In the End" is still present on the Hard Rock Streaming Songs chart, where it sits just behind "Numb" at No. 5. It also claims spots on both Billboard global tallies. This frame, it too celebrates 250 weeks on the Hard Rock Streaming Songs chart, matching the impressive total that "Numb" hits at the same time. "The Emptiness Machine," one of the band's newest releases, holds onto the top spot on the Hot Hard Rock Songs chart. That makes it the most consumed hard rock tune in the U.S. right now. It can also be found on both global rankings. "Heavy as the Crown" appears on more Billboard lists than any other Linkin Park title this week. It's currently present on six rankings and still holds inside the top 10 on three of them. While it no longer reigns on the Rock and Alternative Airplay chart, it only slips slightly, falling one rung from No. 1. "Two-Faced," another cut from the band's comeback album From Zero, doesn't look as sturdy this time around. It's now only found on one ranking — the Hot Hard Rock Songs chart — and it dips from No. 17 to No. 23. If it doesn't stabilize soon, it might disappear entirely.
