Huawei and Anghami launch music app on HarmonyOS 5 smartwatches

The Anghami Smartwatch App is now available for download on the HUAWEI WATCH 5 and will soon roll out to more smartwatch models across the region. Huawei has partnered with Anghami, the music streaming platform in the Middle East and North Africa, to launch a new smartwatch app designed specifically for the HUAWEI WATCH 5, powered by the latest HarmonyOS 5. The release represents a major step forward in the ongoing collaboration between the two companies, following the signing of a memorandum of understanding at HDC 2025 in China. The Anghami Smartwatch App offers users a seamless and intuitive way to stream music directly from their wrists. Built for mobility and ease of use, the app allows users to browse playlists, play tracks and manage playback with a few simple taps on their smartwatch, delivering a smooth and immersive music experience on the go. Choucri Khairallah, Chief Business Officer at Anghami, said: 'Anghami has always believed in delivering music that moves with you. With this new HUAWEI WATCH 5 integration, we are taking that idea one step further, bringing curated music, regional favorites, and personalized playlists closer to users through the intuitive power of Huawei wearables.' This collaboration builds on a relationship that began in 2020 with Anghami's integration into Huawei Mobile Services. Milestones since then have included the launch of the first HarmonyOS smartwatch app in 2021 and deeper integrations through the HUAWEI AppGallery. The updated app for 2025 takes advantage of HarmonyOS 5's performance and user experience enhancements and will soon be available on other Huawei smartwatch models, including the WATCH GT 5 and GT 4. The partnership also extends to Huawei's HMS for Car, enabling Anghami's content to be accessed through in-vehicle entertainment systems for a unified music experience across devices. William Hu, Managing Director of Huawei Consumer Business Group for Middle East and Africa Eco-Development and Operation, added: 'As a global technology leader, Huawei is committed to creating smarter, more connected lifestyle experiences for users worldwide. By bringing Anghami's streaming capabilities to our wearable ecosystem, we are enabling music to follow users wherever life takes them, on the go and right from their wrist.' The Anghami Smartwatch App is now available for download on the HUAWEI WATCH 5, offering users real-time music access, a user-friendly interface and a curated selection of content tailored to regional tastes.

Apple (AAPL) Finally Returns to Growth in China's Smartphone Market

Chinese tech firm Huawei regained the lead in China's smartphone market during the second quarter of the year, according to data from Canalys. In fact, the company shipped 12.2 million smartphones, which was up 15% from a year earlier and equated to an 18% market share. Interestingly, this is Huawei's first time in the top spot since early 2024. Meanwhile, tech giant Apple (AAPL) saw its shipments rise by 4% to 10.1 million units for a fifth-place finish. This was good news because it was Apple's first time seeing growth in China since the fourth quarter of 2023. Elevate Your Investing Strategy: Take advantage of TipRanks Premium at 50% off! Apple's growth this quarter has been linked to strategic price adjustments for the iPhone 16 series, which included higher trade-in values and discounts offered by Chinese e-commerce platforms. These moves helped Apple regain momentum after months of declining market share. Nevertheless, it is worth noting that competition in China's smartphone market remains intense. Indeed, Huawei has been rolling out new models aggressively and expanding HarmonyOS 5, which is its self-developed operating system that competes with Google's (GOOGL) Android and Apple's iOS. At the same time, Apple is facing geopolitical challenges, such as President Trump's push for the company to manufacture iPhones in the United States. However, this seems unlikely to happen since it could push the price of iPhones to over $3,000, according to analysts. As a result, as Apple prepares to announce its earnings results on July 31, investors will be closely watching for any updates to its strategy in China. Is Apple a Buy or Sell Right Now? Turning to Wall Street, analysts have a Moderate Buy consensus rating on AAPL stock based on 13 Buys, 11 Holds, and one Sell assigned in the past three months, as indicated by the graphic below. Furthermore, the average AAPL price target of $229.11 per share implies 6.8% upside potential.

The future of luxury is hyper-personalisation

I arrived at Huawei's Experience Centre on Banxuegang Boulevard in China feeling slightly jaded. I'd seen countless tech showcases before, each one louder and more frenetic than the last, but as I sank into the rear seat of the Maextro S800, something shifted. It wasn't the plush seat that began to massage my back or the fast wireless charging panel where I could rest my phone, but that without me realising it, the car had anticipated my needs and adjusted itself to meet them before I'd thought to ask. A Huawei staff member tapped the centre screen, and suddenly the front of the cabin fell into a hush. It wasn't only about muting sound, it was about creating an intentional space. My own voice felt clearer, more contained, as though the car were listening. In that moment, I realised I wasn't visiting a showroom. I had stepped into a thesis on luxury. One that doesn't arrive in spectacle, but in softness. Outside the car, the Experience Centre felt more like a curated gallery than a tech hub. Splash screens and guided tours lent it a familiar kind of corporate choreography, but the devices told another story. HarmonyOS 5 powers a large share of Huawei's portfolio in China, but HarmonyOS 6, in developer preview, reveals where this is all going. Instead of juggling interfaces across your phone, watch, laptop and car, the goal is a seamless flow. HarmonyOS 6 will introduce AI agents, cloud-native continuity and improved cross-device logic, all designed to anticipate you without interrupting you. This approach was everywhere, though quietly expressed. The Huawei Watch 5 series builds on the company's deepening investment in health tech. It does the expected things — heart rate, sleep, stress tracking — but adds context over time. The longer you wear it, the better it understands you. The personalisation is practical, not performative. When paired with the right services, it begins to act as a kind of wellness concierge, adjusting recommendations based on your patterns rather than your stats.

Huawei Pura 80 series with HarmonyOS 5 to launch on June 11: Here's what we know so far

Huawei is all set to unveil the new Pura 80 series alongside a suite of smart products on June 11 at 2:3PM (local time) in China. The Chinese phone maker recently shared a new teaser poster on Weibo showing two cameras, which suggests that the upcoming series will mostly focus on mobile photography. The Huawei Pura 80 series is said to have four models – Standard, Pro, Pro Plus and Ultra. These phones will most likely be powered by Huawei's in-house design Kirin 9020 chips and run on HarmonyOS 5 out of the box. Unlike previous versions, which had some Android code, the latest version of HarmonyOS is not based on the Android Open Source Project (AOSP) but can run some Android apps via a virtual machine. At the launch of its Maextro S800 smart car launch event, He Gang accidentally revealed a Pura 80 series smartphone. Based on the camera design, it looks like the device was the Pura 80 Ultra. As it turns out, the Pura 80 series will carry over the triangular camera bump from its predecessor. Talking of optics, the Pura 80 series is said to take smartphone photography to the next level. As you can see in the image, the Pura 80 phone will most likely sport a 50MP dual-periscope telephoto lens at the center of the module alongside an in-house developed SmartSens SC5A0CS 1-inch camera, which will be joined with a 2MP colour temperature sensor. For those wondering, this won't be the first time Huawei is going with a dual periscope unit. Five years ago, Huawei had used a similar camera setup for the P40 Pro Plus. However, the standard Pura 80 is said to have the same camera as its predecessor, but new AI enhancement might help improve the overall image quality. While it is uncommon for most smartphone makers to start pre-orders for their upcoming devices without sharing the entire specifications, Huawei and Samsung have been doing it for some time now. Unsurprisingly, Huawei is said to open pre-orders for the Pura 80 series soon after the Dragon Boat Festival, which will end on June 2, with the handsets available later in July.
