Disney+ drops Goosebumps after two seasons, but the story might still continue
Synopsis Disney+ has pulled the plug on Goosebumps after two seasons, but the story may not be over. The series, based on R. L. Stine's hugely popular books, premiered in October 2023 and wrapped its second season in January 2025. Despite amassing over 118 million viewing hours worldwide, it will not return to Disney+ or Hulu. Producer Sony Pictures Television is now seeking another platform, leaving fans hopeful for a third season. Agencies The supernatural horror series Goosebumps will not be returning for a third season on Disney+ or Hulu. The news was confirmed by Variety, which reported, 'Goosebumps is not returning for a third season at Disney+.' The show, adapted from R. L. Stine's long-running book series, first landed on Disney+ and Hulu on 13 October 2023. It returned for a second season on 10 January 2025. In the United States alone, the two seasons clocked up 75 million viewing hours. Across 16 international markets, it pulled in a further 43 million 1 premiered with five episodes at once, followed by weekly releases until its finale on 17 November 2023. It had ten episodes in total. Season 2 took a different approach, dropping all eight episodes in one first season followed five high school students caught up in a decades-old mystery surrounding Harold Biddle, a teenager who died under strange circumstances. Season 2 introduced fraternal twins who moved in with their recently divorced botanist father. When unusual events began to unfold, they joined forces with friends to uncover the seasons pulled from multiple Goosebumps book plots rather than sticking to a single title, marking a departure from the original 1990s episodic anthology 1 starred Justin Long, Rachael Harris, Zack Morris, Isa Briones, Miles McKenna, Ana Yi Puig, and Will Price. Season 2 featured David Schwimmer, Ana Ortiz, Jayden Bartels, Sam McCarthy, Elijah M. Cooper, Francesca Noel, and Galilea La Stoller and Rob Letterman developed the show and served as executive producers alongside Hilary Winston, who also acted as showrunner. Neal H. Moritz and Pavun Shetty from Original Film, Scholastic Entertainment's Iole Lucchese and Caitlin Friedman, and producers Conor Welch and Erin O'Malley also took part. Sony Pictures Television Studios produced the series in collaboration with Disney Branded to Variety, 'series producer Sony Pictures Television plans to shop the show to other outlets and explore different creative directions for the IP.' This means a third season could still happen if a new streaming service or network picks it other cancelled Disney+ shows such as Willow and Star Wars: The Acolyte, Goosebumps is not entirely off the published by Scholastic, is one of the best-selling book series in history, with more than 400 million copies in print in English and editions in 32 other languages. The franchise includes over 200 books, several spin-offs, a 1990s TV series, and two films released in 2015 and fans, the future now hinges on whether Sony can find the show a new home. Until then, the Disney+ chapter is officially closed.
